Reviews: From Sofia: Rila Monastery UNESCO Site & Outdoor Mineral Spa

Fantastic day! We left Sofia, near the Serdica metro station, at 9 am, heading to the Rila Monastery (2 hours) after a short breakfast stop for those who wanted it. - Rila Monastery, a religious site. The guided tour by Calina was very interesting, passionate, and in French šŸ‘ You can have lunch there for a very reasonable price!!! Be aware that it can get cold quickly in the mountains, even snowing! In October, it was only 2 degrees Celsius there. Then we continued on to the thermal spa (1.5 hours). - Thermal spa: Don't forget your flip-flops/sandals, they're mandatory inside!! We only went outside because the inside is a concentrated sulfur bath, difficult to tolerate or breathe... Outside, there are numerous pools between 33 and 42 degrees Celsius, access to a sauna and steam room! There's a restaurant on site (street food). The view of the mountains is incredible. After 2.5 hours of relaxation, we headed back to Sofia! We returned around 6 pm.

The trip to the monastery and spa was very well-planned and there were 2 stops near the monastery before and after the tour. Our guide Georgi was really friendly, welcoming and gave a really informative and interesting tour in the Rila Monastery. The tour was also possible with audio guide in different languages. Really loved the little bakery near the monastery, definitely recommend to try the mekitsi. The spa was also very nice and relaxing, keep in mind to bring your own slippers and the ticket to the spa is only in cash. The group of 10, who we were travelling with, was really fun and friendly.
