What a wonderful variety of the best of the Hobart area! From the Mt. Field National Park forest to the Bonorong Sanctuary and finally the summit of Mt. Wellington we were treated to experiences we could not have accessed on our own without a great deal of driving and effort. Thankfully we had an expert driver who kept us moving but gave us plenty of time to immerse in each location.

Peter was our driver/guide. He gave us much information about Richmond, Hobart and Tasmania on our way to Richmond. He made sure everyone was happy including my 10-year old daughter who looked a bit dull that day. He cared to show us around Bonorong before the start of the official tour and pretty much gave us a highlight around the Dock area. He’s just awesome!

It was a good excursion! The walk in Mount field was nice we saw some wild life and huge trees. Be aware that we walked for 3 hours mostly easy but with some small steep parts and stairs. We went to Bonorong wild life where we saw a wombat and a Tasmanian devil. We also fed Kangaroos. And to finish we went to the top of Mount Wellington for a great view of the Hobart area.

Weather was fantastic after a long period of wintry weather. The driver shared lots of helpful information about the past, current locations, places of interest and where to find scallop pies and yummy ice cream! Though it wasn’t what I wanted to do, there were side trips available which sounded interesting. I enjoyed visiting what was of interest to me rather than being locked into a set agenda.


