Perhaps influenced by the MH370 incident and the kidnapping, there weren't many people going, making my group of four and I the only four people there that day. Whether on the bus, on the boat, or at mealtimes, we felt like we had the place to ourselves.
But the tour guide and boat owner didn't let that stop them from being attentive. The food was even better than the buffet at our five-star hotel.
Because there were so few people, the boat owner even took us to see crocodiles with some locals we knew, letting us touch them, and he diligently helped us find proboscis monkeys, trying to get us as close as possible to see them.
The fireflies at night were truly spectacular, a beauty that words and cameras can't capture. They echoed the stars in the sky, making it hard to tell whether the stars were adorning the trees or the fireflies had taken flight.
