Reviews: Private Douro and Porto 4x4 Tour with Wine Tasting and Boat Trip

Vasco Andre' was our amazing guide for a full day private tour of the Douro Valley, answering all our question about the region, the towns on the river and on top of the hills, the types of grapes, soils, and wines produced by each, and the people who live and work here. We started the day early at our hotel in Pinhao with a 1-hour boat tour on the Douro River and had the entire boat to ourselves! An hour later when we returned, people were lined up to board crowded boats. A couple of other highlights - we stopped to pick and taste some grapes from the vine and a local farmer stopped by and invited us to his home with a spectacular view and a swing, to taste his homemade port wine. We also stopped at a wine coop in Vasco's home village and visited a local bread bakery using ancient ovens the same way for hundreds of years. Lastly, we finished the day feeling this trip was a highlight of our first visit to Portugal and gave us a unique insider's view of the Douro Valley, its history, and its wines. We highly recommend Grapeland Tours and *** for marketing them so well. ★

This experience was the most beautiful of our stay. Indeed, thanks to Paulo, we were able to discover an authentic Douro Valley rich in history. The day's program was so well put together that we didn't see it go by. From the boat tour on the river to lunch, the Port tasting in a local winery, the picnic and finally all the Jeep rides on the valley paths, the excursion was simply a complete, magical and intimate discovery.
