This half day tour is a great and convenient way to visit Hallstat. It is of course more expensive than taking the train or public bus+ferry to get to Hallstat, but it is certainly a time-saver. It's essentially a direct bus trip to Hallstat with a bit of commentary of interesting places that we passed and some history. Once you reached Hallstat, you will go around on your own for about 2.5 hours and the bus will come to pick up at a certain time. The 1.5 hours ride is comfortable and there's a power point at your seat if you need to charge your phone.★

The Austrian tour company was fantastic! The guides and drivers were all very nice. A basic level of English communication is necessary, as the guide provided the entire tour in English, offering a very detailed explanation of Austrian history, including Hallstatt, its geographical location, and its past. The explanations were excellent. I would definitely choose this local tour again next summer if I have the chance. Winter is quite cold with short days; it gets dark around 4 pm. I'll definitely check out the summer scenery next time!★

Austrian train tickets are very expensive, but extremely reliable, with many trains running on time. Therefore, the Eurail Pass is very useful in Austria, saving on expensive transportation costs, especially for high-speed trains between Vienna and Salzburg, and for travel to the beautiful town of Harshtaël.
