We had a wonderful experience hiking the Nakasendo Trail with our guide, Shawn. He was very helpful and made the hike so much more enjoyable by sharing history about the trail along the way. As I was a slower hiker, Shawn was very patient and paced himself to make sure I was never left behind. He also gave us helpful heads-ups about what to expect on the next stretch of the trail, which made us feel much more prepared and comfortable. The Nakasendo Trail is beautiful, but it’s definitely not an easy hike, and I honestly don’t think we would have enjoyed or managed it nearly as well on our own. Having Shawn with us made all the difference. We highly recommend Shawn to anyone looking to experience the Nakasendo Trail!★

Reviews: JR Pass east Japan rail pass | Ride designated Shinkansen (ticket redemption)

The East Japan 10-Day Pass covers a wide area. From Tokyo to Aomori, the Shinkansen takes three to four hours, a long distance. Then, I traveled through Sendai, Matsushima, Fukushima, Omiya, Karuizawa, and Kawagoe Ichiban-gai. From Tokyo to the airport, it's very cost-effective. The JR buses in Aomori provide good connections between attractions, so I basically didn't need to buy additional bus tickets during my trip. Recommended.
