Reviews: Pepper's Choice : Waterfalls, Sulphur Spa & Black Sand Beach
Guest User2026-01-24
Our day in the Commonwealth of Dominica was the highlight of our entire cruise, thanks to Pepper. From start to finish, this excursion was exceptional and far exceeded our expectations. Pepper guided us through the island with genuine warmth, deep knowledge, and a clear passion for sharing Dominica’s beauty. Our first stop was the stunning Emerald Pool, reached by a peaceful hike through the rainforest. The waterfall and cool water made for an unforgettable experience. We then visited a black sand beach, but not before Pepper welcomed us to his Air B&B for an incredible panoramic view of the island. The beach time was relaxing and scenic—exactly what we needed. Lunch at a local mom‑and‑pop restaurant near Trafalgar Falls was delicious, and the owner even picked fresh starfruit from a nearby tree for us to try. It was a thoughtful touch that made the day feel even more personal. Trafalgar Falls was breathtaking, and Pepper shared fascinating details about the area, including the impressive cable car project currently underway—set to become the longest in the world once completed. On the way back, Pepper took us through the Botanical Gardens, where we saw the famous school bus crushed by a fallen tree during the 1979 hurricane—a powerful reminder of the island’s history. From start to finish, Pepper delivered the best excursion of our trip. His hospitality, storytelling, and attention to detail made the day truly special. If you’re visiting Dominica, do yourself a favor and book a tour with Pepper. You will not be disappointed. We can’t wait to return—especially once the new international airport is complete.

Great tour with a super nice driver. The time spent at the beach was arranged individually (at no extra charge).

I am doing this review in English and Spanish. Great day hiking with Paul to the beautiful Boeri lake (not to be confused with the Boiling Lake). Paul had a different plan but I had visited those places already and was kind to propose this alternative. I do not regret. Paul is knowledgeable and will talk to you about many things about Dominica in this 45 minutes hike each way. Highly recommended and keep in my mind you will be walking carefully over slippery rocks. Una excursión estupenda hasta el precioso lago Boeri (no debe confundirse con el Lago “Boiling”). Paul tenía un plan diferente, pero yo ya había visitado esos lugares y fue muy amable de proponer esta alternativa. No me arrepiento. Paul es muy conocedor y te hablará de muchas cosas sobre Dominica en esta caminata de 45 minutos (cada vía). Muy recomendable pero tener en cuenta que hay que caminar con cuidado sobre rocas resbaladizas.

This tour is not for the faint of heart. Today is day 2 since the hike and my calves and thighs are still pretty tight. The hike has areas that are very narrow and steep but it is well worth it. Tour guide, Mio, is amazing. He is easy to talk to, funny and provides a wealth of information about the island, the rainforest and its occupants and so much more. He’s like a walking Wikipedia! We were hiking at a descent pace so it took us 6.5hrs total. The lake was at a simmer that day but it is still quite a wonder to set eyes on. We crossed several rivers and saw some waterfalls along the way. On the way back, I was blessed to enjoy the downpour of a warm waterfall on my shoulders. Absolutely stunning views along the entire way with blue/green pools in the rivers and some that are blue/gray due to the potency of the volcanic minerals. Dominica is truly a blessed country in nature. We got to boil an egg and you can collect your own natural clay from small volcanic pockets. Mio calls it nature’s natural proactive. Funny enough, I paid $25XCD the day before for a small amount but thankfully had a ziplock bag to scoop some fresh clay— which I have on my face as I’m writing this review! 🤪 At the entrance of the hike is Titou Gorge and we got to jump in and swim up to see the two beautiful waterfalls at the end of our hike. Following Mio’s direction made it so much fun and a lot easier to push against the heavy flowing current. That part was actually the best part of my visit to Dominica. I highly recommend this company and especially tour guide, Mio.

The hosts for all the activities and the driver were all great. Got to kayak and surprise snorkel, then a drive to the gorge.
