Because the itinerary is long enough, you'll see everything you want to do. The temperature difference is significant, so a windproof jacket is a good choice. The journey will be slightly strenuous, and using an umbrella will be inconvenient. Food won't be great; bring your own chocolate and small snacks, as they're expensive elsewhere. It's considered high altitude, so don't bring coffee—it will make you feel worse. You can't check oxygen cylinders on the plane; buy them locally. It rains frequently, so a waterproof camera would be useful.

I'm a European exchange student living in Germany. Knowing that I could conveniently travel to other countries by train, I purchased a Eurail Pass. At the time, there was a promotional discount of about 20%, so I got it for about €100 less. I was very satisfied with the price.
