Our driver, Mr. Huang, was not only a driver but also a tour guide. He arranged the itinerary very thoughtfully and meticulously. This time, we opted for a small group of eight. Mr. Huang is very experienced and continuously explained the history of the Longji Rice Terraces and the cultural customs of the various ethnic villages along the way. His humorous personality added a lot of atmosphere to the trip. It turns out that people from Guangxi love listening to Cantonese songs, so we played many famous Cantonese songs from the 80s and 90s along the way, which suited our tastes perfectly, making the trip less hectic. We had a farm-style lunch, ordering our own food to suit our budget. Mr. Huang treated us to Guilin chili sauce and fermented bean curd. The bamboo-tube chicken was sweet and tender, the bamboo-tube rice was full of bamboo aroma, and we also had a bowl of mushroom and vegetable soup, experiencing the 100% authentic flavor of farm-style cuisine.

I would recommend this tour for people who limited for time and want a hassle free visit to the rice terraces. There are multiple viewing areas in the scenic region and this tour visits only one, the one with the cable car (additional 100rmb). Given the time taking the cable car is essential as there would not be enough time to walk up and down. Cable cars take 20mins each way and move fast so need to be able enough to get in and out quickly. I enjoyed having enough time to leave the viewing platform and walk down the path where I found a guesthouse with terraced seating : I spent 30mins as the only customer drinking tea and eating desert with fantastic views…only sound was birds and insects. People who do not leave the viewing platform may get board as there is nothing there but tourist stalls. During the stop and the village I walked around while other 7 on the trip went to the show. For me, too much time is at the village and would prefer another viewing platform at the rice fields

Three of us went. I liked it. Everywhere they were driving, they said where to go. We only spoke English, but the driver knew only Chinese, despite this everywhere he used translator and cared for the comfort of the money, all explained to us. Pay for convenience first of all, because you can move yourself in this environment difficult, there do not go simply so taxi or buses + without knowledge of language complex. Mega respect, all at the highest level.

Our driver was very nice and flexible with the schedule, allowing us to spend as long as we wanted in each location. We booked an English speaking driver but he could not speak English but he used a translation app with worked fine for communication. He also gave us good recommendations and information about the area. Beware of car sickness from the curvy roads. Also beware of chaotic driving conditions which could be seen as unsafe.
