Xixi Ancient Village is located in Liaobu Town, Dongguan, and is named for its location west of the Hanxi River. There are over 200 existing buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, with walls, watchtowers, ancestral halls, study rooms, residences, ancient wells, ponds, and banyan trees together forming a village layout designed for clan-based living. It was built along the gentle slope of a hill, with horizontal and vertical alleys crisscrossing in a neat, chessboard-like pattern. Most residences are "three-room, two-corridor" A-frame and Ming-style houses, which are typical of Cantonese architecture. The Yin Ancestral Hall, Kaiting Ancestral Hall, and Xialing Study Room are representative examples. Their walls, built of red sandstone and blue bricks, are decorated with stone-carved brackets and plaster sculptures in the shapes of lions and qilin, while patterns of bats and copper coins symbolize good fortune and wealth. It is very quiet during the day, making it perfect for leisurely strolling through the alleys to view the old architecture. After nightfall, lights illuminate the river, and the old houses are reflected on the water, making this the most popular time to visit.Dongguan · 15.3km from downtown

Nanshe Ming and Qing Ancient Village are distinctive destinations in the Pearl River Delta, offering an opportunity to experience the architectural style and traditional culture of the Ming and Qing eras. The centuries-old villages of Nanshe were forced out during the expansion of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but experts and scholars have joined forces to protect and maintain culturally significant carvings and valuable relics, as well as edifices from the era which have managed to remain intact to this day. Their heroic efforts are responsible for the continued existence of the Xie's Ancestral Hall, which was constructed from clay with red stone running along the base of its walls. Additionally, a masonry building built with brick and a customary three-bay courtyard with triple entrances are sights worth seeing.Dongguan · 16.4km from downtown

Nanshe Ancient Village

Nanshe Ancient Village

Nanshe Ancient Village is located in Chashan Town, Dongguan. It is an ancient Cantonese village that has been inhabited by the Xie clan since its founding in the Southern Song Dynasty. Several ponds run through the center of the village from west to east, dividing it into north and south halves. Over 30 ancestral halls and rows of ancient blue-brick residences are spread out along the ponds, with granite-paved alleys winding between the eaves. The appearance of an ancient water town in the Pearl River Delta is well-preserved here. The old buildings feature a blue top and red bottom style, with blue-brick walls paired with red sandstone foundations. The brick and wood carvings in the ancestral halls are still exquisite upon close inspection. The Xie Ancestral Hall on the north bank of the pond is the main attraction, and old residences like the Baisui Archway and Zizheng Mansion by the pond are also worth a stop. This family produced several imperial scholars in the late Qing Dynasty, and this family history is still preserved in the family temples and former residences. Villagers still live here today, so it is not an empty, staged set. In the alleys, you can occasionally come across local intangible cultural heritage crafts like Chashan clay figurine painting. It is worth setting aside half a day for a leisurely stroll.Dongguan · 16km from downtown

The scenic area is well-managed with ample parking, making parking very convenient. Most thoughtfully, it's a pet-friendly area; you can bring your dog for hiking, praying, and even ride the shuttle bus. The trip was relaxing and enjoyable, a truly fantastic experience! Xixi Ancient Village, located in the southeastern part of Liaobu Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, was first built in the second year of the Hongzhi reign of the Ming Dynasty (1489). It is one of the best-preserved ancient Cantonese villages in the Pearl River Delta region. The village currently has 27,100 square meters of existing Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings, including 15 ancestral halls, 3 study rooms, and 193 traditional residences, arranged in a comb-like layout. The village is surrounded by a 6-meter-high blue brick wall and defensive structures such as watchtowers. The village was listed as a sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units in 2006, named a Famous Historical and Cultural Village of Guangdong Province in 2008, selected as a second batch of Chinese Traditional Villages in 2012, and included in the second batch of Chinese Traditional Village Construction Plan in 2015.

There weren't many people at the scenic spot today, but I saw quite a few taking photos in ancient costumes, which added a unique charm to the area, especially given its historical architecture. This location is perfect for those who enjoy taking close-up photos in ancient costumes.

It's worth a visit. There are many peach trees by the lake, which must be very beautiful when they bloom. When I went there, it was not the season for peach blossoms to bloom, but the small water lily pond was very beautiful. Songshan Lake is very large and suitable for cycling. It is worth a day's visit. I just wandered around and didn't have enough time.

Oh my god, it was a paradise for kids! We didn't want to go home! We tried the Ferris wheel, water park, zoo, and Happy Farm rides – all the less dangerous ones. We even got to experience the sea lion show, which was so much more fun than the ones at the aquarium! We also saw the Liang Zhu Lantern Show, where we outsmarted the NPCs and won several hundred taels of silver – the kids were ecstatic!

Evaluation: Nanshe Village in Dongguan, an ancient village with a history of more than 800 years, is famous for its well-preserved ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Nanshe Village covers an area of about 110,000 square meters, with 32 existing ancestral halls, more than 500 ancient houses, 25 ancient wells, and 5 temples. The village is centered on the pond, with ancestral halls on both sides, winding alleys, and densely populated houses, showing the characteristics of the water village in the Pearl River Delta. The ancient building complex in Nanshe Village represents the Lingnan style and the characteristics of the Pearl River Delta water village. It is one of the relatively well-preserved ancient building complexes from the Ming and Qing Dynasties in my country. Most of the buildings in the village are in the form of "three rooms and two corridors", covering an area of dozens to nearly 100 square meters, with stone wall foundations, blue brick walls, and door frames covered with red sandstone. Nanshe Village is not only a witness to history, but also a rare typical ancient village of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Lingnan. This is not only a treasure land for tourists to experience the traditional culture and architectural art of Lingnan, but also an example for studying my country's ancient agricultural settlement culture and Lingnan's ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has very high historical and cultural value and architectural art value.

A small Lingnan style mansion with unique design making use of the small parcel of land. The buildings are well maintained as it is a paying attraction. The public garden next to it is free to enter. A good place to understand the Lingnan style mansion. The highest point in the mansion is a three storey tower offering a good view of the surrounding.

Garden features Exquisite layout: Yuehui Garden perfectly integrates the traditional art of Lingnan gardens with modern aesthetic tastes. It covers a total area of about 50 hectares and has 108 garden attractions, including pavilions, pavilions, waterside pavilions, curved corridors, stone bridges, rockery, etc., showing the elegant and unique Lingnan ancient architectural style. Water charm: The garden cleverly introduces natural living water from the Dongjiang River, with a water area of more than 240 acres, accounting for about 30% of the total area. Rivers, lakes, streams, streams and other waters meander and flow, connecting various scenic spots in series, forming a unique landscape of "water follows the garden, and the garden is alive because of water", creating a garden atmosphere with the artistic conception of Tang poetry and Song lyrics. Art treasures: The garden has China's largest brick carving work "Hundred Bats Huichun", which was built with 1.6 million bricks and took two years to create, implying continuous blessings. In addition, the lingering story of "The Romance of the West Chamber" is hidden in the Lingnan gray sculptures and painted, and the dripping sound of the eaves seems to echo the old times, showing the unique charm of Lingnan culture.
