Fenghuang Ancient Town (Phoenix Ancient Town)
Nestled in Hunan Province, Fenghuang Ancient Town is a stunning riverside town renowned for its well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. Often called the "Phoenix Town," it's famously built over the Tuo Jiang River, with traditional stilted houses (Diaojiaolou) dramatically lining the waterways. Visitors can walk through ancient flagstone streets, cross iconic covered bridges, and take a boat ride to see the charming reflection of the old town in the water. Its unique atmosphere, blending Han, and Miao ethnic cultures, has made it a beloved destination in China.
Furong Old Town (Furong Town)
Located in the mountains of Hunan's Yongshun County, Furong Old Town is famously known as the "Town Hanging on the Waterfall." This ancient town offers a breathtaking spectacle, with traditional Tujia ethnic minority stilted buildings cascading dramatically down a cliffside. A mighty waterfall flows directly through the heart of the town, plunging into the river below. Visitors can walk along paths carved behind the waterfall, feeling the spray and thunder of the water, which creates a uniquely powerful and immersive experience. Its dramatic scenery gained fame as a filming location for the movie Furong Town.
