Reviews: New Zealand Milford Sound 1-Day Tour | Panoramic Bus + Fjord Cruise + Optional Buffet Lunch

We took the tour from Te Anau. We stopped at many places on the way to Milford Sound, allowing us to take photos. You can buy lunch on the Milford Sound cruise, or bring your own. We were grateful for the free coffee, tea, and water. We were able to see many incredibly high cliffs and really get a feel for the sheer scale of the place.

Reviews: Doubtful Sound Wilderness Day Cruise from Manapouri
Guest User2026-01-25
Absolutely fantastic. Boat from Manapouri to the other side of Manapoori Lake was about 45 min, then scenic drive for another 45 mins to set off for a great boat ride along Doubtful Sound until the very beginning of Tasman Sea (ca. 2,5h return). The views were spectacular, also because we were lucky with weather as it was sunshine, not usual in this place which sees 240 rainy days a year and annaul rain fall of about 6-8 metres. One of the highlights of the trip was a few minutes pf total silence with engines turned off and all visitors asked to be quiet. That was a moment to remember! Guides and all staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the bus driver who shared lots pf interesting stories of the area and water power plant. Altogether the trip it took almost 7h, as we set off at 10.30 am and returned to Manapouri at 5.10 pm. Bring your own food or you can buy sandwiches, snacks and soft drinks at the bar on the boat. We did also Milford Sound cruise which was great too, if you like this type of activity and have time, dont hesitate to book both. If I had to choose one, I would choose Doubtful Sound.
Reviews: Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise from Queenstown
Guest User2025-10-20
We booked this trip well in advance as part of our NZ three week tour. We arrived in Queenstown a couple of days before and the weather wasn't great. This prompted us to consider cancelling the trip. Thankfully we didn't- the weather wasn't great, rained all day with sporadic winds but that didn't detract from the stunning beauty of Doubtful Sound. It's a long day with coach, ferry and more coach travel to get to deep cove and the start of the cruise but the backdrop of new Zealand's countryside never disappoints. We were held up by cattle crossing the road heading home but even this didn't dampen our spirits. I'd honestly say if you're in a position to go, then go. RealNZ take great care of you (got to mention our driver Gordy who was great!).

I booked one day and went the next. It was a small group with few people, and the foreign driver/guide was beautiful, kind, and incredibly attentive. She provided detailed explanations throughout the trip, stopped at every attraction to take photos for us, and even prepared local plant information and drew a diagram explaining the formation of the fjords. On the way back from the boat, she thoughtfully provided chocolates and umbrellas for when it rained. The customer service was also very patient, assisting us whenever we were worried about getting lost. A great experience!
