Unfortunately, the main tour is rather unspectacular and the timetable is unreliable. However, on the blue route we met a very friendly and helpful bus driver who immediately suggested a beautiful levada hiking trail that the standard guidebook doesn't seem to include.

It is always great to be in the hands of the locals. We felt safe in the minibus while driving around on those narrow roads especially on the north of the island. Roberto was really nice, liked his sense of humor as well as the information he gave us about Madeira. We could ask any question and he would know the answer. First we stopped at Blandy’s where our guide was Tatiana. She had great knowledge about the rich history of Blandy’s and even more about the wines. We tasted 3 Madeira wines, couldnt decide which one was our favourite as they were all very good. Then we went to Sao Vincete to visit Quinta do Barbusano where apart from the stunning views of and from the vineyard, our guide Lena gave us a useful insight into the place. We tasted 6 wines and the most amazing lunch with no rushing, plenty of time to chat. Our next stop was Barbeito where we also sampled 3 wines. The climate was completely different with thick mist and cold air. Returned to Funchal at 5pm. Thank to everyone!

Full day of unbelievable views of the ocean, natural pools you can swim in, waterfalls. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t allow to go on Levada walk or see the Forest, so can’t comment on these. Chose lunch option and it was a 3-course feast, plus wine!


