Yongle Palace, also known as Dachunyang Longevity Palace, was built in the Yuan Dynasty. Construction of such a magnificent palace complex with Taoist characteristics took over a century. Yongle Palace displays the typical architectural style of the Yuan Dynasty. Thick brackets intersect with each other layer by layer without much carved decoration. The architecture is spare and bright compared with the building style in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The halls are arranged on the south-north axis. Of note, there are elaborate wall paintings on the Yongle Palace. There are many and of high artistic value, true rarities.Ruicheng · 3km from downtown

Legend says Nuwa appointed five dragons, with the Azure Dragon as their leader to govern all dragons, bestowing upon him the title Prince Guangren - hence the name Temple of Prince Guangren. The Temple of Prince Guangren faces south and covers an area of 4,560 square meters. It consists of a main hall, an opera stage, and side rooms, featuring simple construction with an elegant, rustic charm. The opera stage has three bays in width and three purlins in depth, with unadorned bracket sets on the column-top lintels. The central bracket set features a dragon head emerging from the large bracket mouth, while elephant trunks extend from both sides. The two end bays display dragon heads emerging from their bracket mouths. The main hall is the only surviving Tang Dynasty wooden structure in the Hedong region. Among the four remaining Tang Dynasty wooden buildings in China, the main hall of the Temple of Prince Guangren is one. The temple's Tang Dynasty stele holds significant reference value for studying ancient water conservancy projects that benefited the people, as well as the temple's construction period. The Xihoudu site is located in Xihoudu Village, Ruicheng County, Shanxi Province, in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. The site is located on an ancient terrace about 170 meters above the river. The Xihoudu site is one of the typical representatives of the cultural relics of the early ape-man stage in China. The discovery of deer antlers with cut marks and animal burnt bones in the site shows that they have conquered the "God of Fire" under their feet and revealed the charm of "the spirit of all spirits". The Xihoudu site is the oldest Paleolithic site known in China and is currently the earliest evidence of human use of fire in China. In 1988, the Xihoudu site was designated as a national key cultural relic protection unit. The Xihoudu site was identified as the collection site for the Olympic flame of the Second National Youth Games in 2019.Ruicheng · 35.7km from downtown

Wulao Peak in Yongji, Yuncheng, is known as "DonghuashanThe title "Taoist paradise under heaven" was bestowed upon it. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, the flourishing of religion further enriched the Taoist culture of Wulao Peak, with numerous temples and monasteries dotting the mountain, where incense smoke perpetually rises. In the 19th year of the Wanli era (1591) of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Shenzong, drawn by its fame, visited to pay homage and participate in the mountain temple fair from the first to the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month. Wulao Peak is also known as the "52nd blessed land of Taoism" and is celebrated as a renowned Taoist cultural mountain in northern China. Today, Wulao Peak attracts travelers more for its stunning natural scenery and pristine, fresh air, making it an ideal destination for mountain hiking and outdoor activities. Wulao Peak is mainly composed of five peaks: Yuzhu Peak, Taiyi Peak, Qipan Peak, Dongjinping Peak, and Xijinping Peak. From a distance, they resemble five elderly figures standing majestically, hence the name Wulao Peak. The mountain is lush with vegetation, featuring steep cliffs, peculiar rocks, and numerous streams and waterfalls, making it a natural oxygen bar and an excellent destination for hiking and fitness. After entering the attraction gate, visitors need to take a sightseeing bus (ticket: CNY 30 per person, round-trip) to reach the hiking starting point. Then, they can follow the stone steps to explore the attraction, enjoying picturesque scenery along the way, though some sections have poor road conditions. When visiting Wulao Peak, visitors can also choose to take the round-trip cable car (including round-trip transportation) for CNY 100 up the mountain, which saves time and energy.Yongji · 17.1km from Ruicheng

A national AAAA-level tourist attraction and one of the top ten attractions in Shanxi Province, Guanque Tower is located on the eastern bank of the Yellow River west of Puzhou Ancient City in Yongji, Shanxi. Alongside the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei; Yueyang Tower in Yueyang, Hunan; and Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, Jiangxi, it is renowned as one of China's four great historical and cultural towers. Originally built during the Northern Zhou Dynasty (557–571 AD) by military commander Yuwen Hu as a defensive watchtower, the tower earned its name from the storks that frequently perched on its structure. The Tang Dynasty poet Wang Zhihuan's celebrated poem "On the Stork Tower" ("The sun along the mountain bows; The Yellow River seawards flows. You will enjoy a grander sight; If you climb to a greater height.") has become an enduring masterpiece, widely known both domestically and internationally. After standing for over 700 years through the Tang and Song dynasties, the tower was destroyed during warfare in the early Yuan Dynasty (1222 AD). The reconstructed Guanque Tower follows Tang-style architecture, featuring four eaves externally with three visible tiers, while internally comprising six floors. With a total height of 73.9m, it epitomizes the grandeur of the Tang era. Ascending Guanque Tower not only offers breathtaking panoramic views but also immerses visitors in the brilliance of China's 5,000-year civilization.Yongji · 41.9km from Ruicheng

Yongle Palace was built to commemorate Lü Dongbin. The entire building is grand in scale. In the 1960s, it was moved here to make way for the construction of the Sanmenxia Reservoir. As a result, the original site was not flooded, so the combined ticket also includes a visit to the original site. The most famous is the Yuan Dynasty mural "Chaoyuan Tu" in the Wuji Hall.

The Guangrenwang Temple in Ruicheng, Yuncheng, is one of the few remaining Tang Dynasty wooden structures in China and a fifth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units. The ancient temple sits atop a loess plateau, devoid of elaborate decorations; its simple yet robust brackets and walls perfectly embody the rustic and majestic spirit of Tang Dynasty architecture. Having withstood a thousand years of wind and rain, the temple retains the original Tang Dynasty structural features in its eaves and beams. This ancient building, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the countryside, stands quietly on the plateau, a must-see for anyone exploring early wooden architecture. A few words to say...

Yongle Palace The palace preserves the largest and most complete mural of a Taoist temple in the Yuan Dynasty, "Chao Yuan Tu", which is exactly 700 years old this year.   I finally know what the gods in Chinese mythology look like. It's so shocking. Photography is prohibited in the palace, but Liang Sicheng once said, "The roofs of ancient Chinese buildings are never dispensable." Chenghuang Temple This county-level Chenghuang Temple, commonly known as "Nan Temple", is the oldest and most complete building of its kind in the country. It was built during the Dazhong Xiangfu period of the Song Dynasty. The temple is a collection of ancient buildings from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. The pavilion and backyard display nearly 100 monuments and statues from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Guangrenwang Temple One of the three existing wooden structures of the Tang Dynasty, the "Weather Bureau" of the Tang Dynasty, used to pray for rain. When navigating, the remote location made me suspect that I had gone the wrong way. Compared with the imitations of many cities in the Tang Dynasty, I finally saw the real Tang Dynasty. I touched it secretly and felt the legacy of the Tang Dynasty with my own hands.

This place is known as the Little Egypt of Shanxi, and it is a real site, unlike those broken things in Egypt, which are all modern forgeries. After investigation, it was found that this is an ancient site dating back 1.8 million years ago and is currently the earliest evidence of human use of fire in China.

The ancestral temple of Guan Yu, one of the 30,000 temples worldwide, is indeed magnificent and awe-inspiring. Several emperors personally inscribed plaques, making it a royal temple exuding grandeur. It's a bit far from the city center, so it's advisable to plan your time accordingly.

The transition between seasons, especially between summer and autumn, is a particularly good time to climb Wulaofeng. Firstly, it's not too hot, and secondly, the scenery changes distinctly with the seasons. Therefore, it's considered a relatively less-visited mountain near Yuncheng.

It opened on the 2nd yesterday. It was a long walk. The scenic area has a big height difference. There is the Yellow River Pearl Hotel inside. There was heavy rain this year and many landslides. Fortunately, there is a small transportation system at the foot of the mountain, otherwise it would be too tiring. Shanxi has rich tourism resources, but it's a pity that the management and operation are a bit poor. Goodbye Ruicheng.

If you go to Shengxin Lake when there are the most swans, you will definitely encounter a very pleasant surprise! Whether it is the swans in various postures or the colorful scenery under the sunset, it is enough to make people linger and go back. Although there were only a hundred swans when we went there, it gave us, the late tourists, some comfort that we finally saw its true body! Look carefully, there is a seagull standing on the top of the Zhixin Pavilion, and its beak has turned black, which is a signal to return to its hometown in Siberia. I have seen flocks of seagulls flying freely in Kunming Dianchi Lake and Dali Erhai Lake. It is a surprise to see seagulls in Ruicheng! I think Shengxin Lake is getting better and better!

I hadn't originally planned to visit the Stork Tower, as it's a reconstruction completed in 2002. However, I came across a travelogue about climbing it, and perhaps the focus for modern people isn't so much on whether it's an ancient building, but rather on Wang Zhihuan's famous line, "To see a thousand miles further, climb one more story." When you reach the top and gaze into the distance—the Yellow River, the Zhongtiao Mountains, the blue sky and white clouds overhead, the wind blowing from Fengling Ferry—don't we feel the same sentiment as Wang Zhihuan back then? Sometimes, even a simple visit can lead to unexpected experiences. The scenic area has set up signature boards for each province, autonomous region, municipality, and region. Surprisingly, this tourist experience made the friendship between Qin and Jin (Shaanxi and Shaanxi) more tangible. The board for Shaanxi Province has already been replaced twice, as it's become too densely packed with signatures from friends from neighboring Shaanxi. The scenic area simply put up a sign at the very front of the signature corridor that reads "Qin People Gather!" It looks like it'll be full soon too.
