The old church, built in 1139, is the only Romanesque cathedral in Portugal that has preserved its original appearance since the Reconquista. After the Marquis of Pombal expelled the Jesuits from Portugal in 1772, the cathedral was moved from the old cathedral to the new one. An ancient and mysterious cultural palace, with a long history and profound depth. The upstairs is even more spectacular, but photography is not allowed.

The Baroque Library of the University of Coimbra can be said to be the best place in the entire University of Coimbra. It is also listed among the top ten most beautiful libraries in the world. It is magnificent and many of the building materials are wooden. There are three main halls, each with murals on the four continents, disciplines and related qualities. It is also the prototype of the library in the movie Harry Potter.
