Snæfellsnes is located in western Iceland and is known as "Iceland in miniature"—glaciers, volcanoes, lava fields, basalt cliffs, black sand beaches, fishing villages, and meadows. These typical Icelandic landscapes can almost all be found on this approx. 90 km long peninsula, which is why it is often recommended to travelers who have limited time and want to see the diverse landscapes of Iceland all at once. The Snæfellsjökull glacier volcano at the western end of the peninsula is a landmark here. French science fiction writer Jules Verne set it as the entrance to the center of the earth in Journey to the Center of the Earth. When the weather is clear, this glacier-capped volcanic cone is clearly visible across the bay. A self-drive tour around the peninsula is the most popular way to explore, with attractions spread out along the coast: Kirkjufell stands alone by the sea, resembling a straw hat, and Kirkjufellsfoss at the foot of the mountain is a highly popular photography spot. The coastal trail between Arnarstapi and Hellnar connects the Gatklettur stone arch and flocks of seabirds on the cliffs, while the nearby Londrangar basalt cliffs stand above the waves like a forest of towers. Djúpalónssandur black pebble beach preserves the lifting stones once used by fishermen to test their strength, and at the end of the beach, you can see the vast North Atlantic. At the golden beach of Ytri Tunga, seals are often seen basking on the rocks, and the Búðir Black Church stands between meadows and lava fields, creating a highly recognizable scene on the peninsula. On clear nights in the fall and winter, this area is far from city lights and is also a great place to chase the northern lights.Eyja- og Miklaholtshreppur · 46.8km from Arnarstapi
The Icelandic Phallological Museum

The Icelandic Phallological Museum is located in the center of Reykjavik. It is one of the few museums in the world dedicated to specimens of reproductive organs, founded by Sigurður Hjartarson. This seemingly bizarre museum actually combines biological research with cultural interest, making it one of Iceland's unique popular science attractions. The collection covers hundreds of specimens from over a hundred mammal species, ranging from cetaceans, walruses, seals, and polar bears to native species like Icelandic horses and reindeer. A sperm whale specimen over one m long exudes an imposing presence, while the bone of a hamster's reproductive organ is only millimeters in size and requires a magnifying glass to see clearly. The specimens are systematically preserved in formaldehyde jars or mounted on walls. Human specimens are another highlight: the museum waited years for a suitable donated human specimen, and this story was even documented in a film; a set of silver sculptures modeled after Iceland's national handball team, which won silver at the Beijing Olympics, is also often talked about.Iceland · Reykjavik

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss has a drop of approx. 60m, with water sourced from glacial meltwater. The waterfall's unique feature is a natural recessed path at the base of the cliff, where visitors can walk behind the water curtain to experience the roar of the cascading water and the surrounding mist up close. Looking out from behind the curtain, the view of the distant fields and horizon through the splashing water offers a unique and picturesque perspective, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. Sunset is an ideal time to capture the view from behind the curtain, as the warm light of the setting sun shines through the water from the west, creating exceptionally rich layers of light and shadow. When walking along the path, be mindful of the slippery rocks underfoot. The dense mist can also wet your clothing and electronic devices, so it is necessary to prepare waterproof gear in advance.Iceland · Rangarthing eystra

Skógafoss

Skógafoss is located on the south coast of Iceland. The Skógá River cascades down from the top of a cliff approx. 60 m high and 25 m wide, forming an almost continuous curtain of water. This cliff is a remnant of Iceland's ancient coastline—as the coastline has retreated southward over thousands of years, the former coastal cliff was left inland, and the waterfall now plunges directly from the edge of this cliff. The area in front of the waterfall is filled with mist year-round, and on sunny days, you can often see a single or even a double rainbow; if you walk to the base of the waterfall, you will get soaked by the mist. On the east side of the waterfall, there is a zigzagging staircase trail leading to the top of the cliff, where you can overlook the entire waterfall and the distant south coast plains. There is also an ancient Norse legend about this waterfall: it is said that in the early days, someone hid a chest of gold treasure behind the waterfall. After rumors of the treasure spread, treasure hunters came in an endless stream, and later, someone actually found the ring of the chest here. This ring is now kept in the nearby Skógar Museum, and the legend of the treasure has been passed down to this day, becoming part of the waterfall's unique cultural charm.Iceland · Rangarthing eystra

This was definitely the most unique and fascinating experience of my trip to Iceland! I thought it might be a niche attraction, but I was surprised by how rich and profound its content was. The museum houses a wide variety of specimens, from whales to humans, perfectly blending curiosity, science, and humor. The explanations are detailed and the layout is clear, not at all cheesy, but instead full of educational value and a sense of the wonder of life. The gift shop's creative souvenirs are truly hilarious. If you're tired of the usual natural scenery, a visit here will definitely bring you unexpected joy and reflection. Highly recommended for all open-minded travelers!

This museum is definitely worth the price of admission, and buying family tickets online is significantly cheaper than visiting the museum. The aurora, volcano, and ice cave experiences are truly breathtaking. It's a must-see for families. The rooftop observation deck is also worth a visit.

The Forest Falls is one of the many waterfalls in Iceland. The scenery is very beautiful. When we arrived, the weather was super good. The water vapor from the waterfall drew a particularly beautiful rainbow under the sunlight, which was very impressive.
