The new Yinxu Museum officially opened on February 26, 2024. In terms of architectural design, following a global competition, the design by Academician He Jingtang from South China University of Technology was selected. Inspired by the "Shang Hymns" from the Book of Songs, the design features elements such as green wild grass platforms, a grand earth structure, layered depth, and bronze cladding. It emphasizes a green, low-carbon, and sustainable development model, creating a "model of China, a temple of civilization" with cultural connotations and archaeological significance related to the Yin Ruins. Regarding the exhibition layout, the museum focuses on the theme of "The Great Shang Civilization," featuring three permanent exhibitions, four special exhibitions, and one unique immersive digital exhibition. These exhibitions explore various aspects such as Shang Dynasty history, oracle bone studies, archaeological history, and the global influence of Shang civilization. They comprehensively illustrate the flourishing urban civilization, sophisticated ritual and music culture, advanced bronze civilization, brilliant written language, and superior craftsmanship of the Shang Dynasty, vividly presenting its significant role and impact on Chinese civilization and the development of human civilization. In terms of design style, the museum adheres to a solemn and grand aesthetic, extensively utilizing artificial intelligence, multimedia, and other digital technologies. This approach provides new contemporary expressions for artifacts, documents, and oracle bone inscriptions, enhancing the breadth, depth, and precision of the panoramic presentation of Shang civilization. It creates an interactive space between artifacts, history, and digital virtual environments.Anyang · 12.3km from Anyang County

Yin Xu is the ruins of the late Shang Dynasty capital in China, the first historically confirmed capital city, located in Yindu District, Anyang. A large number of cultural relics with precious historical value have been unearthed at Yin Xu, including bronze ware and oracle bone inscriptions. Among them, the 875 kg "Simuwu rectangular ding" is a treasured bronze artifact, while the oracle bone inscriptions represent ancient Chinese writing and the precursor to Chinese characters. Their discovery altered China's archaeological chronology, pushing the credible recorded history of China back to the Shang Dynasty. The Yin Xu royal tomb site within the attraction is academically recognized as the royal burial ground and sacrificial site of the Shang dynasty. The palace area has yielded a large quantity of oracle bones, bronze artifacts, including the famous "Simuwu rectangular ding." Thirteen royal tombs, over 2,000 burial pits, sacrificial pits, and chariot pits have been discovered here. The eastern section of the royal tomb site features numerous sacrificial pits containing human (sacrificial victims) and animal skeletons, serving as a public sacrificial ground for the Shang royal family to honor their ancestors. The Yin Xu palace and temple complex site served as the venue for Shang kings to handle state affairs and reside, representing the most significant ruins and component of Yin Xu, encompassing over 80 architectural foundations including palaces and temples. To the west and south of the palace and temple complex lies a manually excavated defensive moat encircling the structures, functioning similarly to a palace city. The temple complex is also recognized as one of the renowned "classical city-states" among ancient civilizations worldwide. Within the palace and temple ruins area lies the tomb of Fu Hao, the consort of King Wu Ding of the Shang dynasty. This is the only well-preserved tomb of a Shang royal family member discovered to date, and the only one that can be linked to oracle bone inscriptions to confirm its age, owner, and identity. The tomb chamber contained 16 sacrificial victims and yielded over a thousand artifacts, including bone objects, jade pieces, and bronze vessels. In the eastern part of the attraction, there is also an "Oracle bone stele forest" that displays a large number of oracle bone inscriptions in the form of stone carvings. Visitors who are interested can go and take a look.Anyang · 12.8km from Anyang County

This was an extremely satisfying guided tour. Originally a small group, it became a private tour due to a last-minute cancellation, which significantly enhanced the experience. Ms. Li was incredibly patient and her explanations were very detailed. She interacted well with my child throughout, providing appropriate guidance and stimulating his curiosity and desire to explore. She also offered encouragement and timely praise, giving my child positive motivation and further fueling his interest in learning about and exploring history. The museum exhibits were also very impressive. Ms. Li's explanations brought the entire three-story exhibition hall to life, making us feel incredibly close to the Shang Dynasty. We learned a great deal from the tour, and I am especially grateful to Ms. Li. My child and I both benefited immensely from this experience.

Travel | Anyang | National Museum of Chinese Writing What defines China? Writing is undoubtedly a crucial element. "Writing carries the Way"—where is the Way? It lies within these strokes. From ancient etched symbols to oracle bone script, seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script, the history of writing is the history of cultural development and evolution. Civilizations without written records have been largely submerged in the long river of history; but because of writing, we can still understand the feelings of a Shang Dynasty person seeking divination three thousand years ago. Get close to Chinese characters, get close to your mother tongue. Just a few days ago, I was discussing the significance of learning classical Chinese—standing in the lobby of the National Museum of Chinese Writing, looking up at the high wall inscribed with characters from oracle bone script to simplified characters, the answer is clear: learning classical Chinese is not for exams, but so that we don't feel alienated when faced with oracle bone fragments from three thousand years ago. The beauty of the square shape of Chinese characters is a unique aesthetic—other phonetic scripts seem to lack this. I'm also glad that the simplification of Chinese characters stopped before Latinization; otherwise, if the writing system had completely become phonetic, it wouldn't just be the form of the characters that would have been severed, but the entire cultural lineage of thousands of years. When we travel, ostensibly for "tourism," the kids think it's "playing" or "fun," but I often sneak in my own ideas—I actually plan "sightseeing" and "exploration." However, we still want to browse through cultural and creative products, and when we encounter handicraft workshops, I have to give her a "carrot" [laughing emoji]—like stringing her own oracle bone script bracelet. After a rather long museum visit for her, it was already quite good that she cooperated to complete the entire tour and listen to the explanations. Back home, she should continue to practice her calligraphy and read diligently.

The new museum's layout has been praised as "efficient yet unpretentious," with themes such as Shang Dynasty hymns, funerary sacrifices, and bronze artifacts blended seamlessly. As evidence of Shang civilization, its cultural value is irreplaceable. A guided tour is highly recommended.

Cao Cao wielded his whip, his legacy spanning a thousand years. A lone rider soared into the clouds, a dream of returning to the Cao Wei dynasty, understanding the grand strategies and talents of a thousand years ago. There's not much to see at Tianning Temple; it's a reconstruction and quite small. However, the Wenfeng Pagoda is definitely worth a visit. Be sure to hire a guide to explain everything, as each sculpture has its own story. The carvings are exquisite.

A truly magnificent ancient building, a national cultural relic protection unit. It was raining, so there were almost no tourists, which made it even more tranquil. The ancient pagoda seemed even more imposing in the rain. You can search for more information online, but it's worth noting that climbing the pagoda has been prohibited since 2024! Don't spread misinformation. Personally, I feel that visiting this one place in Anyang's old city is enough! Everything else is rubbish.

Near Anyang Railway Station, take bus No. 23 directly to the scenic area entrance; it's a convenient and quick way to get there. This is the tomb of Mr. Yuan and his wife, a prominent figure from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.
