Guest UserThe hotel is huge with excellent, new facilities, including 3 pools and 2 beaches (requiring a ten-minute climb up and down stairs). The amenities are comprehensive. The butler service was also great – they were responsive to all requests, even via WeChat, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was plentiful. Overall, it's very private, keeping outsiders out, and there are plenty of staff providing good service. These are the pros.
However, during my two-day stay, there was a wedding. The main pool, gym, and yoga room were closed. The shuttle sometimes took 20 minutes to arrive, and the place was packed with people everywhere. On top of that, my pre-booked 12 PM boat transfer was inexplicably canceled, pushing me to the 2 PM slot, which was incredibly crowded and chaotic. I almost didn't get a spot.
It seems the hotel failed to properly coordinate the wedding experience with the regular guest experience, completely disregarding the latter.

Guest UserI would like to sincerely thank you for the wonderful hospitality, friendliness, and helpful service throughout my wife’s and my stay at Tanjong Jara Resort. From the smooth check-in until check-out, every moment made our stay truly enjoyable, memorable, and relaxing.
We had a very happy experience at the resort and would highly recommend Tanjong Jara Resort to our family and friends. It is definitely one of the best resort choices in Terengganu.
Special thanks and appreciation to Ai Li, Umah, Haziq, Ruzly, Angel, Amira, Athir, Yusri, Yanna, Khairi, and Aidil for their excellent service, warm hospitality, and dedication in making our stay so pleasant.
Thank you once again, and we hope to visit again in the future 😊

Little EEThe hotel is conveniently located near the jetty, making it very easy to travel around. There is also a dive center right downstairs, which is perfect for divers. Breakfast is included and offers a wide variety of choices.
The hotel is very clean and well maintained, and the overall cleanliness exceeded our expectations. However, the air conditioning was a major issue. We booked several rooms, and all of them experienced problems with the air conditioning. Additionally, the swimming pool is noticeably smaller than it appears in the photos.
Overall, the location, cleanliness, and convenience are great, but the air conditioning definitely needs improvement.

Guest UserOverall, it was great value for money. We booked a family suite, which turned out to be a connecting room with a king-size bed and a living area, plus a standard twin room. The room was incredibly spacious – listed at 79 square meters, but it felt even larger – and had fantastic views from the window. Soaking in the jacuzzi tub was pure bliss. The hotel service was also excellent; the shuttle service was always waiting for us ahead of time. Although it's a 2012 hotel, it's very well-maintained, and the room facilities don't show their age.
The only two things we found challenging were the mattress and the dining options. My husband and I are used to firm mattresses, and the hotel's beds were a bit too soft for us to get used to. As for dining, there's only the hotel restaurant, and nothing else to eat nearby.
Overall, we were very satisfied.

Guest UserSo, how about PIR? Let's start with the pros. The sea view is unbeatable, and it has its own long stretch of beach. I'd say it's the second-best on Perhentian Island, right after Long Beach, and definitely better than the two beaches below the Marriott. I even saw sea turtles, sharks, Nemo, and schools of fish while snorkeling – very satisfying! There are also monkeys, squirrels, lizards, and other small animals behind the resort.
The staff were very helpful, assisting with luggage from the jetty to the room and again at check-out, which was great. PIR also offers water taxi and island hopping tours, and the prices are quite reasonable.
You can also walk to other restaurants for meals. A whole fish cost 80 MYR, which is much cheaper than the 200 MYR at the Marriott.
Now for the cons. PIR's breakfast is absolutely terrible. Besides fried eggs, I really didn't know what to eat, though the watermelon was decent. Their regular meals are okay, similar in taste to Mama's. The soundproofing is definitely poor; you can hear conversations from the next room and even the sound of the waves. Also, the bed sheets weren't very clean. I'd recommend bringing your own bedding.

The room is large, with a courtyard, and a little bit of a Maldivian feel, but no hair dryer was found. The food is good, the taste is OK, the ingredients are fresh, and it is slightly more expensive than other nearby restaurants. The service is still quite enthusiastic, especially the on-demand food service staff for breakfast, who are very enthusiastic and proactively ask if there are any dishes that need to be ordered. Proactive service is precious and feels very good. However, the front desk service is perfunctory, seemingly enthusiastic but not solving the problem. After waiting for a long time, no one took the initiative to tell us that we can check in. We went to the front desk to ask, and a few chatty waitresses smiled and said that it was ok now. When we left, we missed the boat because the front desk arranged to wait for the water taxi. Obviously, we were very anxious and asked many times, but the front desk told us that there was no problem. The boat is often late. I asked them to call the shipping company to inform us that we have not boarded the boat yet, and I guess there was no communication. I was speechless. The service to customers should not be just superficial enthusiasm. I hope to really solve problems for guests instead of creating problems.

Stayed for 3 nights. Overall, this place has so much potential. The kampung ambience is so peaceful and inviting. The old Istana (palace) transformed into rooms gave the kampung lifestyle feels. Just walking distance to the beach and the scenery of the whole resort is tranquil. Nevertheless, suggest to clean and restore the pond around the resort. Re-do the whole landscaping around the resort and plant all the local flowers, fruit trees and herbal plants. And to install more solar lights. With this new facelift of the whole sorroundings, will surely invite repeating guests. Shoutout to the friendly staffs too. (P/S: suggests to invest on bed bug spray for each room too)

NG ZHI QUANIt was a great experience at Alunan Resort.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The villa was clean, spacious, and had breathtaking views of the sea. We loved the rooftop deck for relaxing, and the snorkeling trip arranged by the resort was fantastic. The food at the restaurant was also delicious OMG we do have great time eating here with a variety of choices. Would definitely return!

The room was tiny, and the sink was so low it was uncomfortable to bend over. If you book a front-facing sea view room, you might get a unique ocean perspective, but beware: they might put you in a side wing where you only see other buildings. You'd have to go out to the balcony to see the sea, which defeats the purpose of a sea view room. A 24-sqm front-facing sea view room costs 2800 per night, and there's a risk of being assigned to a side wing, making it poor value for money and a big gamble.
However, the beach loungers are comfortable after 4 PM, offering great views. For 2800 a night, they provide almost no services; all transfers are an extra charge, 100 MYR per person, and 40 MYR for the boat to the pier. In contrast, Marriott, for just over 2000, offers free transfers and excellent service, making it a much more pleasant experience for the money spent. This place just left me feeling frustrated after spending so much.
