Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan is located in the south commercial center of Taiyuan, many of the city's best shopping centers are all within walking distance, also with easy access to the Shanxi International Expo Center and Shanxi Sports Center, 7 km to the South Railway Station and 12 km to Wusu International Airport.
"The hotel's location is good. Although it's a bit old, it still has all the hardware facilities expected of a five-star hotel.
Let me focus on the most unpleasant service experience this time.
We booked a family room, which included three breakfasts. Our child had an upset stomach the night before and was throwing up and had diarrhea all night. So, in the morning, only the two adults went to eat, thinking of getting a takeaway box for the child. This is where the unpleasant experience began. The person in black, who seemed to be a supervisor at the restaurant, said that if we had already started dining, takeaway boxes wouldn't be provided (at this point, we thought we only had two breakfasts included). Later, after checking the order, we confirmed that the family room included three breakfasts. We went back to the restaurant reception to ask for a takeaway box, clarifying upfront that our room included three breakfasts and that we wanted to pack something because our child was unwell. Even then, the front desk staff said that after 6:30 AM, it's recommended to dine in, and takeaway boxes are generally not provided. She also claimed it was busy and she couldn't authorize it (even though there were no guests waiting at the front desk at that time) and that only the supervisor could approve it. I had to wait for her to call the supervisor over again before I finally got a takeaway box.
Throughout this entire process, both of them had cold faces and showed absolutely no service意识 (service awareness). This definitely deserves a negative review!!!"

What really stood out was the thoughtful shuttle service to and from the venue, specially arranged for fans who traveled from out of town for the concert over these three days – absolutely amazing! I heard this was their first time trying it, but it was truly fantastic. "Seriously, this is how a five-star hotel should be! The bed was so soft I didn't want to leave, and the service was so thoughtful it really touched me. The soundproofing was absolutely top-notch, I slept until noon undisturbed. Breakfast was incredibly filling, and the value for money was outstanding. This is hands down the most comfortable hotel I've ever stayed in while traveling; from check-in to check-out, the entire experience was delightful. I've already recommended it to all my friends."

1. The dining management on the hotel's 2nd floor needs significant improvement. We ordered five dishes for dinner; we finished the first two, but the rest were nowhere to be found. Three tables next to us, who arrived 5-10 minutes after us, had already finished their meals and some had even left. After we repeatedly urged them, our remaining dishes finally arrived, including dishes like knife-cut noodles. Others who arrived later had finished theirs before we even got ours. I have photos to prove this. Honestly, this aspect completely falls short of the hotel's overall standard."

**Courtyard Design:** Very beautiful, many scenic spots within the ancient city are decorated in a similar style.
**Room Amenities:** Given the prime location, the room isn't large, perhaps around 15 square meters. It has all the essentials and is very clean. The mattress was comfortable. Of course, it can't compare to high-end or luxury hotels. Its main advantage is its excellent location; it's very convenient for exploring, and you can easily pop back for a rest when you get tired.
**Service:** The staff were very service-oriented. When we arrived, there weren't many guests, and the service was very attentive.
**Breakfast:** It's not a buffet; it's a fixed-menu breakfast, like a 'nine-grid' style. It looks very appealing, and the taste is decent enough to fill you up.
Overall, it's a good stay. Naturally, for this price point within the ancient city, you shouldn't compare it to hotels of the same price outside. It's incomparable, primarily due to its superb geographical advantage."

"After several days of travel, staying here was perfect for a hot spring soak to wash away the fatigue. The night view is absolutely stunning, and the architecture is just like the Wang Family Compound. You can even walk along the city wall, which is very pleasant. I slept incredibly well – the bedding was comfortable, and the environment was quiet, so I slept right through until morning. Waking up to the sound of birds was a lovely experience. No need to worry about meals; the in-house Chinese restaurant charges the same prices as outside establishments, and the service is warm. The Wang family started with tofu, and here you can enjoy authentic Wang Family tofu with a very unique flavor. For parking or taxis, head directly to the underground parking lot. You can ask the concierge to help with your luggage. Since it's an ancient building, elevators cannot be installed, so expect to use stairs."

"As an IHG member, when I visited Taiyuan for the first time, I didn't hesitate to choose the InterContinental. My experience, however, was a mixed bag.
On the positive side, the room facilities were well-maintained. The Bronze Museum was just across the street from the hotel, and the riverside environment was also pleasant.
For improvement, I arrived at the front desk around 12 PM, and was told that only one of my two rooms was ready, and the other was still being cleaned. I accepted this and went for lunch. An hour later, the second room still wasn't ready. Fortunately, a helpful guy at the front desk managed to sort it out, which was a great effort. What I want to say is that other five-star hotels in the industry usually have a guest services center or someone who contacts you beforehand to ask about your estimated arrival time and any special requests. While not a must-have, it's a bonus if they do, and a drawback if they don't when others do. Ironically, less than two hours after checking out, I received a call asking if I had any complaints. At that point, what more could I say?"

They kindly offered touring routes and left us their contact details, telling us to reach out anytime if we had questions. The room was super spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the bedding was excellent – clean and tidy. If I ever come back to Taiyuan, I will definitely choose this hotel again."

Tracie WestMy stay at Wutong Apartments was wonderful! The room was clean, spacious, modern, and aesthetically pleasing. There is bathtub is luxurious and spacious, the shower has great pressure and the the separate toilet room has a motion censored toilet seat and a bidet. The bed was comfy and the closet space begs you to unpack your suitcase. There were thoughtful amenities, including a loofah cloth and shoe shine cloths. Now...the breakfast. It was the best breakfast buffet I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Tinder and well seasoned steak, salmon, soups, desserts, breads, scrumptious pancakes and a salad bar that even included kale amongst the varied greens. Best of all, the service was exceptional. A special thank you to Li Ne, the dining staff and the housekeeper who attended to my room. I wish that every hotel stay I experience in the future is as amazing as my time at Wutong Apartment Hotel.

An auntie surnamed Cui and a young man (sorry, I forgot to check his name) who I believe are in charge of the executive floor, were very quick to respond. Late-night porridge: A bowl of millet porridge late at night is incredibly comforting for the stomach.

1. The location is excellent, within walking distance of Shanhua Temple, Huayan Temple, Chunyang Palace, and the Fobuban flagship store. It's also about 1.1 km from the Nine Dragon Wall and West City Tower, easily reachable on foot. There are several popular restaurants nearby (including the hotel's Chinese restaurant), so you can grab a number, head back to your room, and wait comfortably without any stress.
2. The amenities are quite upscale, featuring a smart toilet, a humidifier, and good quality bath products.
3. The view is nice. Initially, I was given a room on the 3rd floor, which was next to restaurant private dining rooms and felt quite dim overall. After moving to a 4th-floor room, the whole atmosphere changed completely, and my mood instantly improved. Thumbs up for the hotel's service!

The milk was excellent, and the master chef for the lamb offal soup was polite and even advised me to add some vinegar for better flavor. The aunt making the soft egg pancakes did a great job too. The room was spacious, and they specifically gave us a room with a view of the ancient city from the window, which offered a unique night view. We stayed for four days and later even enjoyed the hotel's complimentary simple night buffet. The dining options were especially suited for those with southern eating habits, featuring special egg drop soup and plain white rice. Fresh fruit was provided daily. The elders in my family remarked that the experience at this state-run hotel felt like stepping back in time. The meticulous service is truly ideal for travelers from all corners of the country. It was an unexpectedly wonderful experience, really quite good.

Guest User⭐A beautiful hotel in the heart of Pingyao Ancient City, located in a charming old theatre full of history and character. The staff are welcoming, helpful, and can arrange a very comfortable transfer to the train station.
Two small points for improvement: the advertised spa is not on-site but provided through an external service, and the Western breakfast needs to be reserved in advance.
Despite these details, it was an excellent stay. Highly recommended for its unique atmosphere, perfect location, and great hospitality.

Guest UserThe hotel was originally three old Qing Dynasty courtyards that were relocated, restored, and renovated. They offer guided tours, and the brick carvings and shadow walls of the academy have a strong sense of history, creating a rich historical atmosphere.
The service was excellent; I experienced the business car airport pick-up, afternoon tea, and cocktails. I also tried the intangible cultural heritage woodblock New Year prints, which was a truly immersive way to experience local traditional culture – a rare treat! The game's silver notes could be exchanged for realistic replica silver notes, which was a pleasant surprise. In the evening, the old courtyard had a powerful ambiance, and I specifically got a makeover to take some amazing photos. Highly recommended, it was the highlight of my trip to Shanxi. ReaishenghuodehaolaolaoOverall, the hotel is excellent. The room was clean with no unpleasant odors, and the bedding was neat and tidy. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the restaurant was clean and bright. However, the bathroom only had half a roll of toilet paper. I asked the cleaning lady for another roll, but she said she didn't have any. I found that quite odd. Additionally, the front desk told me there would be eight bottles of water in the room, but there were actually only two in the room and two in the fridge. Given the hot weather, that wasn't nearly enough for me. My husband also asked the cleaning lady for toilet paper, and she also said she didn't have any. In the end, we had to buy a pack of tissues outside, which was very inconvenient. We were already tired and just wanted to rest. During our trip to Yuncheng, we saw the loess hills, which were beautiful for us southerners.
