"I chose Thavikun Hotel for my trip to Vang Vieng this time, and my overall stay exceeded expectations. The hotel's location is very convenient; you can experience Vang Vieng's unique karst landscape not far from the hotel, and the surroundings are relatively quiet at night, so you won't be disturbed by noise. The room was clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable, and it had good lighting and ventilation. The facilities were complete, with everything you need for a daily stay. The front desk staff were friendly, and both check-in and check-out were smooth. They also patiently answered any questions I had. After a day of exploring, it was nice to relax comfortably. "The hotel has a limited number of rooms, but the riverside setting is lovely. There's a pool in the center of the courtyard, surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs. Next to the pool are a restaurant and bar; enjoying a drink while watching the sunset over the river—you can even see paragliders!—it's very chill (but be sure to spray mosquito repellent!!!). Every evening, the hotel delivers a small treat to your room: coconut cake or chocolate brownie. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a pleasant lemon tea scent, and essential oils were burned in the room: it would be even better if they continued to burn them for the next few days."

"The location is fantastic, right outside there's a night market (but whatever you do, don't use the ATMs near the night market! They'll eat your card...).
Facilities: The rooms are spacious and modernly decorated. All the essentials like disposable shower caps and slippers are provided, which was actually better than I expected. There's also a pool and outdoor dining area, and I even saw a cute cat. The only downside was that the water pressure in the shower was a bit low.
Service: The owner is very welcoming and always greets guests. The waffles for breakfast were delicious. We arrived late, and all the other shops were closed, but we were able to sign up for the next day's activities at the front desk without any issues.
It felt like there were quite a few Chinese guests staying here. Even though the owner doesn't speak Chinese, all the facilities have Chinese signs."

"Hotel staffs is very supportive, hotel location is also very convenient, there were only a bit of communication problem with the tour that i booked through hotel staff, tour guide didn't speak English, and we don't know what will happen to prepare before joining the adventure activities, the zipline was fun, but the cave tubing was a bit scary."

I didn’t get to swim because I had such a busy itinerary however the stuff was amazing! And the hotel was ok however they need to clean the bathroom, it smells like piss! I think people just pee on the floor, the hotel room is better when the door is closed. You can travel around with ease to do activities.

The stay was okay, but unfortunately the staff were not very friendly and didn’t even greet guests, which made me feel unwelcome. Also, the prices for renting a scooter were almost twice as high as at other places nearby. Overall, it was fine, but I expected a warmer atmosphere and fairer prices.

Absolutely amazing stay - it's clear that the owners take pride in their hotel. The pool and pool area is incredibly clean. The breakfast is fantastic, fresh fruit (varied and lots of it) contained in a fridge (so fresh, cold and no bugs like a lot of other hotels). Option of cooked breakfast every morning (eggs your way). The gentleman running the hotel is so helpful, he booked several tours for us, getting us a good price and being patient when we changed our plans several times. The communal areas are incredibly clean, the staff are always working hard doing something for the hotel. The location is excellent - walkable to everything in Vang Vieng, near some nice restaurants (Green, Vela, beats and bites). Everything in the room worked perfectly. The shower had great pressure and great temperature. Bed was extremely comfortable and the TV was loaded with apps to watch TV (we used Plex as it had English language shows and films). The bathroom has soap, shampoo and fresh towels daily. The rooftop is amazing, we actually used this instead of going to rooftop bars. The hotel sells beer in the fridge at reception.
Highly highly recommend this hotel.
Genuinely we could not find any fault with this hotel at all, we over heard many guests booking to stay extra nights expressing how happy they were with the stay at the hotel and the breakfast.

Vang Vieng is a small town, and you can easily walk everywhere. It rained the entire time I was there, so I didn't get to see any hot air balloons. However, I could see longtail boats passing by the hotel's riverside every morning. I didn't visit any of the further attractions because I thought it would be unsafe to go into the mountains with the rain. Overall, it was a good experience; even with the rain, enjoying a Lao hotpot in town was quite nice.

What's also worth mentioning is the strong water pressure in the shower, which is rare to find in Vang Vieng, and the room even comes with a bathtub. There's also a small pool. Breakfast is good, and there's an à la carte option available. The freshly squeezed juice is great. The front desk staff and servers are all nice; one server even speaks Chinese. The only downside is that the room isn't soundproof, especially the two outermost balcony rooms with multiple glass doors, which not only lack sound insulation but also let in mosquitoes. However, the hotel's location is great, and you can get coffee anytime. There are seating areas both indoors and outdoors.

Guest UserOne of the few upscale hotels in the area, and it has its own generator (which is a huge plus since power outages are common here). We stayed two nights, and the two king beds were an excellent value for money. The front desk staff even spoke Chinese! On our checkout day, it was raining, and they unexpectedly offered us a free half-day extension, which was a wonderful surprise! Highly recommend! 👍

We booked this knowing some of the reviews were not good and fully aware of what we were paying, so always take reviews with a pinch of salt. On arrival we were given our room, the bed was rock hard (never had anything like it), the room was in the top corner next to the road and we could hear chickens, people walking into the hotel and bikes/cars. Dreadful night sleep. In the morning we realized we had booked a Bungalow and so asked to be moved to what we had booked. We were allowed to select between 34 an 35. 35 was the better of the two. Bed was still rock hard but we were further from the noise. However the sink water did not drain it just poured onto the floor (worst thing I’ve ever experienced). By day 3 we had to ask for the room to be cleaned as wasn’t done every day. We had to ask for towels each day too. The breakfast was similar to other places in this price bracket.. eggs, toast and coffee from a packet. The pool was lovely and very clean and grounds were nice. We also rented bicycles which were great to explore some of the further away places. I think with some much needed TLC, a lick of paint here and there and more effort into cleaning this could be a great place to stay.
