"The rooftop at Granbell is a standout. The infinity pool is a great place to watch the sunset from. Get there early as it does get busy. Pool bar also well laid out. The rooms facing the ocean are worth it. It feels like you’re on top of the ocean. High ceilings majestic the rooms feel large. Not a smart TV with only local stations. I’m on holidays so I didn’t mind. The staff are friendly and super helpful. The breakfast is large offering all types of international breakfast options. The only criticism would be the fruit was not the best. Considering you’re in the tropics, I’d expect better. Location is great. Close to Galle green, pharmacy and supermarket."

"We initially booked for one day, but loved the hotel so much that we extended our stay. Everything was excellent – from the reception and check-in to the pool, beach access, and breakfast. Breakfast had a good variety and was served quickly. There are even squirrels hopping around the hotel! The pool is warm and convenient. There are sun loungers around the pool, and the sun shines directly overhead, perfect for tanning. Beautiful sunsets, and a beach nearby with loungers you can use if you order from the cafe, where you can relax and swim. It's close to the airport, making it ideal for a rest before departure or after arrival. The sea in Negombo was the warmest we experienced during our 3-week stay in Sri Lanka."

"I had a fantastic stay at the Marino Beach Colombo Hotel, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Colombo. The energy of the hotel matches the city in the best way—there’s a lively, enjoyable atmosphere that makes the whole experience feel fun and memorable.
One highlight for me was the great view from the hotel. It really adds to the overall vibe and makes it feel special, even when you’re just stepping out to take a moment.
I’d highly recommend booking a room with a balcony. As a mature solo traveller, that private outdoor space made a big difference—especially in a city that can be hot and busy. Even when the day is energetic, the balcony offers that easy, tranquil respite you need to recharge.
And the rooftop infinity pool? Absolutely wonderful—great views, a fantastic atmosphere, and a calm break from the city buzz.
I also need to make special mention to Upendra. The entire reception/concierge service was brilliant, but Upendra’s attention to detail truly stood out. He supported me with my eSIM and helped with my transport needs, and I genuinely felt valued and cared for—like I was a beloved auntie. It’s exactly what I appreciate from young, enthusiastic staff.
Finally, I have to mention the beach club. It was a great experience—and thanks to the life guard, I even got to enjoy a “tethered” swim in the sea. (And yes—at almost 6 feet tall, tethering this Viking shield Maiden really isn’t as fun as it sounds 😄😂)

"The air conditioning was incredibly loud, severely impacting my sleep quality. I had no choice but to turn it off every night. The bedding and towels were disgustingly dirty, covered in old stains – truly nauseating. The bathroom door design was impractical; it blocked the toilet when opened, forcing you to squeeze past or detour through the shower. This is probably why there's no door for the shower, which resulted in the entire bathroom flooding after every shower. I had to throw all the towels on the floor to soak up the water, and I assume others did the same. It felt really off-putting then using new towels to dry myself.
The soundproofing was terrible. The windows and room door already offered poor insulation, and to top it off, I was assigned a connecting room. Over 5 nights, there were at least three different sets of guests next door. The last family (who were also my compatriots) were incredibly loud at 2 or 3 AM, talking loudly, video calling, and even singing. I called room service to ask them to intervene, but it only stayed quiet for about 5 minutes before they started again. I just had to endure it, waiting until I was utterly exhausted before I could finally fall asleep.
Aside from the decent service, and the cheap price, there's nothing good about this place."

"Very friendly staff. It was just an OK stay. The room was a bit run down, common areas were very nice though. The ceiling fan was very noisy because it wasn't really mounted well. It did have a nice restaurant and spa facilities. Two pools were great and the clean beach access was the best. Having a gym was a pleasant surprise. There was a block wide power outage due to power line upgrade and I was grateful they had a generator to keep things going for 8+hours of having no power elsewhere. I personally probably would not want to stay here again."

"Disappointed stay to be totally honest.
The location is good, right on the beach and 20 mins from the airport. There is a pool and many restaurants around. The street doesn't have much to do, but if you want to stay and relax its a good option.
Check in was 2pm even though its stated as 1pm online. The women at the front desk are excellent, very efficient and friendly, however the men are not. I wasn't impressed. Upon check out, nobody came to collect my bags.
Food is good from ala carte. The bar manager is amazing. Very good customer service.
The bed is comfortable, along with the pillows. Good shower and wifi. Nice balcony. The room has a mosquito problem and no robe or slippers in the room.
Some problems exist however. In the hallway there is music and lights on 24/7. This disturbs sleep. Neighbours are noisy (not hotel fault). And people reserve sun loungers in the morning, even though they do not use until hours later. This is a problem.
Overall I was a little disappointed with my stay."

The bathroom was big and had a tub and shower. The bathroom amenities were also good. The room was huge but the AC was a little cold and it was hard to adjust. breakfast was ok had a few different things but not a huge range. Didn't use the pool looked a little small."

"This hotel is truly unique, steeped in history, and they do a wonderful job of preserving its century-old heritage while still embracing the 21st century. Everything is excellent, the staff are friendly and respectful, really valuing old-school service traditions. There's even a museum showcasing famous past guests like Anton Chekhov and Yuri Gagarin.
The 20-meter saltwater pool, right on the Indian Ocean, is simply fantastic for relaxing when the sea is rough.
As I mentioned, the rooms are styled from the 1960s-70s, and you even get the charming creak of the floors and stairs. The hotel team clearly puts a lot of effort into maintaining the property against the forces of time and the ocean's weather.
The dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a story in itself. You can explore not just local cuisine, but dishes from across South Asia. The chefs and restaurant staff really strive to make your stay here an enriching culinary journey into local culture and traditions.
If it's your first time in Sri Lanka, I highly recommend this hotel for your initial introduction to the country. Despite the cost, it offers great value, especially considering its convenient location near Colombo's main attractions."

5* hotel booked to end our trip in style.
Bar staff and cleaners were super happy, polite and love to great the guests in the hotel.
Reception staff were generally unhelpful. I tried to book activities and excursions, but was initially told to go the hotel next door before being given a random book
While trying to sort late check out one receptionist began serving another customer over my head. Late check out was eventually agreed to which was helpful but after being sat face to face in silence for minutes.
Facilities are wonderful. Nice private beach, great pool area. Two bars and buffet style restaurant with ala carte option.
Locals got charged significantly less for our event dinner. Some would say that's fair, others would disagree, but not being transparent probably suggests it was trying to be hidden.
Service wasn't 5*. When we arrived our bedding was ripped and had a huge hole in it. Thankfully this was fixed, but I think atleast 2/3 people came to check before it was resolved.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel overall. The private beach is beautiful and peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax. The pool area is also great, very clean and well maintained. Breakfast each morning was delicious with plenty of options to choose from.
Our room was clean, comfortable, and had strong AC, which made a big difference in the heat. The staff were very kind and welcoming throughout our stay.
One thing to note is that we didn’t receive responses regarding booking tours through the hotel, even after following up. I would recommend arranging any tours or activities in advance to avoid inconvenience.
Overall, we enjoyed our time here and appreciated the relaxing atmosphere.

ManmandelvyouLet me start with a few downsides: for a five-star hotel, there was no liquid hand soap, only bar soap. The toiletries were also very basic, small plastic bottles. We had to specifically ask for bathrobes and the low-quality disposable toothbrushes.
The soundproofing was terrible; every time someone knocked on the opposite door, I felt like they were knocking on ours. The good points are: we were given two bottles of cinnamon drink upon arrival, the pool is beautiful, and the gym is decent. Apparently, haircuts are free, though I didn't try it, and there's a sauna too. We paid an average of over 600, and the taxes were quite high, so the value for money wasn't great in comparison. Oh, and the service was quite slow; we had to wait 10-20 minutes even for toothbrushes.

My stay at Radisson Hotel Colombo was very pleasant.
The hotel is well-maintained, modern, and comfortable. The rooms were clean, quiet, and suitable for both business and leisure stays. Service was smooth and professional, and the staff were polite and helpful throughout the stay.
The location is convenient, especially for business travelers, and the overall atmosphere felt calm and well-organized. Check-in and check-out were efficient, and room service and housekeeping met expectations.
Overall, Radisson Hotel Colombo offers a reliable and comfortable stay with good service standards. Based on my experience, I would definitely consider staying here again during future visits to Colombo.

According to my booking, I was supposed to receive a king-size bed, but upon check-in, I was given two very small, separate beds instead. The hotel authorities failed to keep the commitment made at the time of booking.
Staying and sleeping in these small beds was extremely difficult and uncomfortable for us. This kind of poor service and irresponsibility is completely unacceptable from a reputable hotel. In terms of customer service and maintaining commitments, this has been a thoroughly disappointing experience. I have no intention of ever staying at this hotel again in the future.

I had a wonderful stay at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. From the moment I arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. The service staff were exceptionally friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile.
The hotel environment was beautiful, clean, and very relaxing. I especially loved the garden area, the swimming pool, and the stunning beach views. Waking up to the ocean view from my room was an amazing experience. Even the washroom was well-maintained and offered a great view, which made the stay feel even more special.
What impressed me the most was the genuine hospitality of the staff. They made me feel welcome throughout my stay and paid attention to every detail to ensure my comfort.

TheBeagleOVery friendly staff. It was just an OK stay. The room was a bit run down, common areas were very nice though. The ceiling fan was very noisy because it wasn't really mounted well. It did have a nice restaurant and spa facilities. Two pools were great and the clean beach access was the best. Having a gym was a pleasant surprise. There was a block wide power outage due to power line upgrade and I was grateful they had a generator to keep things going for 8+hours of having no power elsewhere. I personally probably would not want to stay here again.

The surrounding environment was quiet and pleasant, and the beach was just a few minutes' walk away. The staff were warm and attentive, making for a very comfortable stay. Breakfast offered a rich variety, including local specialties and Western dishes, catering to different tastes. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and definitely worth revisiting.
