"I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had in Japan. I booked a Run of House (ROH) room for my family. The booking description stated that room sizes range from 28 to 38 square meters. Based on that description, I reasonably expected that room assignments would be allocated fairly within that range. Upon check-in, I initially asked whether it would be possible to have a room facing Huis Ten Bosch. I fully understood when I was told that a park-facing room would require an additional charge, as such rooms are often sold at a premium. However, after entering the room, I realized that I had been assigned what appeared to be the smallest and least desirable room available. At that point, I was no longer asking for a park view. I simply asked whether it would be possible to have a slightly larger room, especially since the ROH description clearly stated that room sizes range from 28 to 38 square meters. What made the experience particularly frustrating was that I had already read reviews from other guests who booked the same ROH category and received significantly better rooms. One guest mentioned being assigned a park-view room after making a request, while another guest appeared to have received one of the hotel’s best room categories despite booking ROH. When I politely asked why other guests with the same booking category seemed to receive much better room assignments while I was given the smallest room available, the front desk was unable to provide a clear explanation. Instead, I was repeatedly told that any room change would require an upgrade fee. At one point, I was even told to contact the booking platform and ask the platform to pay for the room change. This response made very little sense. I was not asking for a free upgrade. I was simply asking for transparency and consistency regarding how ROH rooms are allocated. After a lengthy discussion, the hotel eventually moved us to a slightly larger room. However, the replacement room was located on the lowest floor, at the far end of the corridor, with a partially obstructed theme park view. While I appreciated the effort, it reinforced the impression that alternative rooms were available, yet no clear explanation was ever provided regarding the original room assignment. My disappointment is not that I did not receive the best room. I fully understand that ROH bookings do not guarantee upgrades. My concern is that the hotel advertises a room size range of 28–38 square meters, creating the expectation that room assignments may reasonably vary within that range. If ROH guests are always assigned the smallest and least desirable room available, even when larger rooms remain vacant, then the hotel should simply advertise the room as 28 square meters. That would allow guests to make an informed decision before booking. For families travelling with children, room size matters. Had the listing clearly indicated that ROH guests would receive a 28-square-meter room, I would likely have selected a different room category from the beginning. The hotel itself is in a convenient location and the facilities are generally good. However, the handling of this situation left a very negative impression. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend booking a specific room category rather than ROH, so that expectations are clear from the outset."

"The hotel is located right behind Huis Ten Bosch, and you can take a boat to Hotel Europe after 3 PM. Upon arriving at the hotel, the environment felt like a palace – very luxurious. In the evening, you can take a shuttle bus to the large public bath, which has indoor and outdoor hot springs and a sauna. Breakfast offers melon 👍 and red/white wine 👍."

"The front desk service is excellent, really appreciated for Ms. Kritima who helped me to open the door when I left the key card inside the room, she is very nice and proactively assisted it. By the way, Mr. Yoon is so professional to assist on self-service of luggage locker and really helpful to find out the lost item of ice nick ring after we checked out. I would like to send my great thankful to them."

"The hotel's location was a bit of a letdown, considering it was too far from the port to walk because of my luggage (not impossible, but I had my luggage with me), but it's a quick taxi ride (currently 1,050 yen one way). Tip: You can ask the hotel to book a taxi for you! Tip: When taking the elevator, you have to hold your key card up to the sensor to select your floor! Even first-time Japanese guests don't seem to know this. If you're just looking for a relaxing getaway, this might be a better option. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast and dinner, there are vending machines for drinks and alcohol, and there's an onsen right next to the hotel! Miura Beach is also right next to the onsen, so you can enjoy the sunset and sunrise! Shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, towels, hand soap, and a hairdryer are all provided, and there's even a refrigerator! The bidet was really nice! Pajamas are also available in the lobby! If I'd known in advance, I could have reduced my pajamas and packed less. The hotel has a horse-riding view on one side and an ocean view on the other. I could see the horses. ^^ The staff seemed busy, but they even helped me get a taxi. I think I'll be able to use it better next time! *^^*"

"The most satisfying part was the toilet; there was absolutely no odor. Because it was newly renovated this year, the room amenities were very new. Plus, it's right next to the shopping street, and the bus stop is downstairs with easy access to the 99 Islands. Highly recommend this hotel for its great value; cleanliness is the most important factor."

"Great in value for families who are planning to go Huis Ten Bosch park. The room is spacious and have everything you need. There’s hotel shuttle runs every 20 min to bring you to the park. If you arrive after 7pm, call the hotel reception at the luggage reception (in car park 2), they will send car to come and fetch you. Great service!"

"I love this place. Been a frequent since July of last year. I use this place as a getaway and recharge. I love how it’s near a lot of great places like food, the train station, the mall, church, the barber shop and all other great places to sight see. Customer service is great. Always accommodating all needs and they are quick to get things done."

"Considering the park and hotel have been open for 30 years, I found the facilities and cleanliness to be very well-maintained. The park layout is excellent, offering a peaceful atmosphere with spacious, beautiful European-style streets that feel authentic rather than artificial. There are small activities throughout the day, which adds to the experience. Dining and Park Amenities While restaurant options within the park are somewhat limited, the prices are quite reasonable. Since we visited in June, the park wasn’t too crowded, so we didn't have to wait in lines for any attractions. The park is well-equipped with convenient amenities, including self-service laundry, a Lawson convenience store, a drugstore, car rental services, and even a pet hotel. Pro-Tip: Download the App I highly recommend downloading the official Huis Ten Bosch app. It provides helpful walking navigation around the park and a convenient schedule to keep track of various activities and events. Hotel Amsterdam Experience We stayed at Hotel Amsterdam, and I highly recommend staying at one of the park’s official hotels. The rooms are spacious, and a unique touch is the built-in water purifier, so there is no need to buy bottled water or head to the hotel lobby to refill. Additionally, you do not need to pay for a second-day park ticket, as the hotel provides them at check-in. Note that parking is 2,500 JPY per day, but staying at the park hotel allows you to offset this cost. Tips for Families and Extras Height Requirements: Be aware that many attractions require children to be at least 90cm or 100cm tall. This isn't clearly stated on the official website, though there is an indoor facility suitable for infants. Transportation: There is a shuttle bus, but it runs every 20–30 minutes. Onsen: There is a public bath (800 JPY/person) or a private family bath (2,700 JPY/hour, requires reservation). Activities: Some additional facilities, like the tricycle rentals, require an extra fee (3,000 JPY/hour). Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend it for those looking for a relaxing and well-planned getaway!"

"A pretty good hotel overall, but the hot spring management was a bit chaotic. There were a few ********* kids splashing around in the hot spring, which really ruined the experience. Other than that, the hotel was excellent, especially the value for money of the buffet, particularly dinner."

"I've stayed here multiple times, and I think it's a great value-for-money hotel with a good location. The exterior has a stylish, Portuguese-inspired look, typical of Nagasaki, and I appreciate that all the essentials are thoughtfully provided without any unnecessary frills. What I particularly liked was the flexibility with breakfast: you can decide on the morning of, and just buy a breakfast voucher at the front desk. For someone as whimsical as me, this was a huge relief! I had a very comfortable stay. Thank you. I'll definitely be staying here again!"
