2024 Sidi Bou Said Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Today's Weather
Partly cloudy 11-24℃
Popular Attractions
Sidi Bou Said
So far, the most recommended visa-free niche country with an average cost of CNY 1,500 per person.
It's not that I can't afford Greece, but 🇹🇳 is more cost-effective.
Tunisia, an unexpected surprise on this trip, is more romantic than I imagined and more surprising than I expected.
During the five days in 🇹🇳, I had a very pleasant time every day. Here is my travel guide, with an average cost of CNY 1,500 per person!
✍️About visa:
Visa-free, I flew directly from Morocco.
The customs will check your return ticket and hotel reservation when you enter the country, so prepare in advance.
📍About itinerary:
Tunis City Center · Tunisia
1️⃣Sidi Bou Said
2️⃣Medina of Tunis (Old Town)
3️⃣Carthage Ruins
(There are several attractions together, you can walk to check in, or you can choose to charter a car)
Sousse Port
1️⃣El Jem - one of the three largest coliseums in the world, and also the filming location of Mayday's "Born to Love"
2️⃣Medina of Sousse - recommended to stay here
3️⃣Sousse Port
4️⃣Sousse Museum
🚄About transportation:
There are buses in Tunis City to various attractions, which is quite convenient.
Taxis are also not expensive, about 8-10 dinars for 5 km💰
To other cities, you can choose train, bus, or mini bus.
I took a mini bus to Sousse, which took about 1.5h-2h, and took a train back.
☎️About SIM card and currency exchange:
You can get a free SIM card at the airport with your passport at Orange, and recharge 20 dinars for 10g, which is definitely enough if you don't watch dramas~
Some people say that it is best to keep the receipt for currency exchange, so that you can exchange for other currencies when you leave, and Tunisian money cannot leave the country, which will be checked. But I was not checked, and I just spent it all.
💰About expenses:
Cash withdrawal: CNY 500
Accommodation: CNY 539 (5 days, 3 days in a youth hostel, 2 days in a single room)
Credit card: CNY 577
🍕About food:
Tunisian pizza is delicious! Better than Morocco and Egypt, and cheap.
Coffee is also cheap, sitting on the street and ordering a latte for 1.5 dinars, comfortable~
Tagine is N times better than Morocco~
💕About feelings:
Safe, it feels much safer than Morocco, and Tunisia is a country of morning people, everyone closes and rests at around 9 pm. Most stores are open at around 6 am.
Romantic, Sidi Bou Said is more romantic than Chefchaouen in Morocco, perhaps because it is close to the Mediterranean Sea.
El Jem, I was shocked by it, when I was at the entrance of the attraction, I felt like I was traveling through time and space.
Sousse is the slowest city I have ever stayed in, and Tunis City is already very slow. It can be said to be a "sloth" city version.
Tunisia is so beautiful, the Mediterranean sunshine, the Mediterranean sea breeze, it seems to be blowing here all the time, making people feel very happy.

Tunisia, a magical journey to the pearl of North Africa.
Tunisia Tunis Province
In the vast land of North Africa, there is a shining pearl - Tunisia. When I set foot on this land full of mystery and charm, I embarked on an unforgettable fantasy journey.
Overlooking Tunisia from the plane, it is a land surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara Desert, with blue and yellow intertwined to outline a magnificent picture. In the autumn of 2024, I came to this exotic country with expectations for the unknown.
As soon as I arrived in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, I was attracted by the unique style of this city. Ancient buildings are perfectly integrated with modern facilities, and the narrow streets are filled with a rich Arabic style. Walking around the old city of Medina is like traveling back to the Middle Ages. The intricate alleys are lined with shops filled with various handicrafts. Exquisite carpets, colorful pottery, and unique silver jewelry are dazzling. Here, you can feel the Tunisian people's exquisite skills and persistence in traditional culture.
In the center of the old city is a magnificent mosque with a towering minaret shining in the sun. Walking into the mosque, the interior decoration is gorgeous and solemn, and the huge dome makes people feel the sacredness and solemnity of religion. Surrounding the mosque, there are many ancient palaces and residences. These buildings are well preserved and bear witness to Tunisia's historical changes.
Leaving the old city of Medina, I came to Bourguiba Street in Tunis. This street is known as the "Champs Elysées in Tunisia". The streets are lined with European-style buildings and are full of romantic atmosphere. The street cafes and restaurants are full of leisurely people, tasting local food and admiring the street view. Here you can feel the modernity and fashion of Tunisia.
Tunisian food is also an unmissable part of this trip. The local specialty cuisine is mainly Mediterranean, integrating cooking styles from different countries such as Arabia, France and Italy. Couscous is one of Tunisia's traditional delicacies. It is made of couscous, vegetables and meat. It is rich in taste, nutritious and delicious. There is also harissa chili sauce, the unique spiciness is endless. In Tunisian restaurants, you can also taste fresh seafood, delicious barbecue and various specialty desserts.
Leaving the city of Tunis, I came to the blue and white town of Sidi Bousay. This town is located on a cliff beside the Mediterranean Sea. The entire town is dominated by white and blue, which is fresh and romantic. Strolling along the narrow streets, lined with white houses and blue doors and windows, the walls are covered with blooming bougainvillea, just like a world in a fairy tale. At the height of the town, there is an ancient lighthouse. Standing under the lighthouse, you can overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire Mediterranean Sea. The blue water, white sailboats, and islands in the distance form a beautiful picture.
There are many cafes and restaurants in the town where you can enjoy a meal while admiring the sea view. I found a beachside cafe, sat down, ordered a cup of coffee, and quietly felt the sea breeze and the warmth of the sun. At that moment, time seemed to stand still. I was immersed in the beautiful scenery and forgot all my worries.
In addition to beautiful scenery and delicious food, Tunisia is also rich in historical and cultural heritage. The ancient city of Carthage is one of the most famous historical sites in Tunisia. This ancient city was once the capital of Carthage, a powerful country in the Mediterranean. Today, although there are only some ruins left, the glory of that year can still be felt. In the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage, you can see magnificent palaces, temples, theaters, baths and other architectural ruins. These ruins bear witness to the prosperity and decline of Carthage, and also give us a deeper understanding of ancient civilization.
In the south of Tunisia is the vast Sahara Desert. I took an off-road vehicle, crossed the vast desert, and came to an oasis in the desert. The green trees and gurgling springs here form a sharp contrast with the surrounding desert. In the oasis, I rode a camel and walked in the desert, feeling the vastness and mystery of the Sahara Desert. As the sun sets, the golden sunlight shines on the desert, and the outline of the sand dunes becomes softer, like a beautiful oil painting. At that moment, I was shocked by the uncanny workmanship of nature, and my heart was filled with awe for this land.
The people of Tunisia are warm and hospitable, and their smiles and friendliness made me feel like home. During the trip, I made many local friends who introduced me to Tunisian culture and history, giving me a deeper understanding of the country. They also invited me to their homes to taste local food and share their life stories. During my interactions with them, I felt the Tunisian people’s love for life and longing for the future.
My short trip to Tunisia is coming to an end, but this land left a deep impression on me. It has beautiful scenery, rich historical and cultural relics, delicious food and warm and hospitable people. Tunisia, the pearl of North Africa, will always shine in my heart. I believe that one day, I will set foot on this land again and continue to explore its mystery and charm.

The romance of the Mediterranean, the desolation of the Sahara, the rugged charm of North Africa, and the elegance of Europe.
Tunisia is located on the Mediterranean coast, with beautiful beaches and clear seawater, making it an ideal holiday destination. Tourists can enjoy sunshine, beaches and turquoise waters, and experience the romantic atmosphere of the Mediterranean. In addition, Tunisia also has the Sahara Desert, providing tourists with a unique desert exploration experience, allowing them to experience the magnificence and desolation of nature. In addition to natural landscapes, Tunisia also has a rich cultural heritage. Learn about the history of ancient civilizations; visit Kairouan to experience North African religious culture; and visit Sidi Bou Said to experience the romantic atmosphere of the blue and white town. The combination of these natural landscapes makes Tunisia a unique tourist destination.
Here is a Tunisia travel guide I have summarized. If it is helpful to you, remember to like and collect it!
- Attractions and prices:
- Blue and white town (Sidi Bou Said): Located in the northeast of Tunis city, half an hour drive from the airport. There is no entrance fee, it is a place full of romantic atmosphere. There are straw mat cafes and Café des délices in the town, which are good places for taking photos. The price of drinks is between 5-10 dinars (about 12-23 RMB). There is also the Dareiannabi Private Residence Museum, which overlooks the town, with an entrance fee of about 5 dinars.
- Carthage Ruins: It is a landmark of Tunisia and was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1979. The entrance fee is around 10 dinars. There are Antonine Baths by the sea that can be visited.
- Great Mosque of Kairouan: Located in Kairouan, it was once one of the Islamic holy places. Non-Muslims can enter the central square for free, but pay attention to dress. If you climb the minaret to overlook the city, there may be a small fee for climbing the tower.
- El Jem Amphitheatre: It is one of the best-preserved ancient Roman amphitheatres in the world, with an entrance fee of around 15 dinars.
- Chott el Djerid: It is a unique natural landscape, free to visit, but there may be fees for participating in some surrounding tours.
- Food and prices:
- Brik: Street food, with a thin and crispy outer skin, filled with eggs, tuna, prickly pear, etc., priced at 3-5 dinars.
- Grilled lamb (Mechoui): Traditional dish, tender meat, suitable for sharing, about 30-50 dinars per serving.
- Harira: A flavorful soup, often served during Ramadan and other special occasions, priced at 5-8 dinars per bowl.
- Baklava: Middle Eastern dessert, also popular in Tunisia, priced at 10-15 dinars per serving.
- Precautions:
- Visa and currency: Visa-free for Chinese tourists. The currency is the dinar. Exchange some euros in China and exchange them for dinars at the local airport. Credit card payments may not be convenient in some places, so cash is required.
- Transportation: For taxis in Tunis city, it is recommended to download the bolt app, but local drivers drive more "boldly", so be prepared mentally. Trains are a common means of transportation between cities. If you want to explore the desert freely, it is recommended to prepare an international driver's license and rent a car for self-driving.
- Religious culture: Tunisia is an Islamic country, so respect local religious customs and avoid eating forbidden foods such as pork in public.
- Communication network: You can get a free mobile phone card at the airport with your passport. It is recommended to understand the package and activate it in advance.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) 🌟 Sidi Bou Said's Cozy Gem: La Villa Bleue ✨
Looking for a stylish stay with a view in Tunisia? 🇹🇳 La Villa Bleue in Sidi Bou Said might just be your next favorite spot! 🏨 With its chic decor and lovely vistas, this boutique hotel offers a unique charm that compensates for its cozy room sizes. 🛏️
While the rooms may be compact due to the location, the ambiance is undeniably quaint. However, if peace is a priority, request a room away from families with children to avoid the noise. 🚸 The pool is a petite oasis, perfect for a refreshing dip, though don't expect to swim laps – it's small but mighty! 🏊
Some guests find the bathroom amenities a bit inconvenient, and the bathrobes hilariously tiny (think kiddie sizes! 😂). When it comes to value, opinions vary, so consider what's most important for your stay. 🤔
Nestled at 68 rue Kennedy, this Tunisian retreat awaits. Will La Villa Bleue be your next check-in? 🗝️

The blue and white town of Tunisia
The fairy-tale-like blue and white town🔷 is perched on the cliffs by the Mediterranean Sea. The white walls, blue doors and windows, together with the azure sea and sky, create a beautiful picture💙
Of course, the blue and white town is a nickname given by the Chinese. For friends who go to Tunisia and want to check in here, remember its real name Sidi Bou Said.
Not far along the main road, the first thing that catches your eye is the straw mat café, a traditional Moorish café where the seating is all made of straw mats, and you need to take off your shoes to sit. The exterior and interior still retain the characteristics of the past, and it is also known as the century-old café.
Further along the main road and down the stairs is another café known for its scenery, Cafe des Delices (also called 'Staircase Café'). Here, under the blue umbrellas, you can drink coffee, enjoy the sea breeze, and bask in the Mediterranean sun🌅
Unfortunately, it was raining that day when we went, and it was not open☔️😨
Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia a must see spot!
The blue and white town of Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia
Some people hail Sidi Bou Said as the 'Santorini of Africa', but this seems too narrow a view and insufficient to capture its unique charm. The beauty of Sidi Bou Said lies in the harmonious symphony of its architecture with the sea, creating a breathtaking canvas that is unique to this land. The buildings here use pure white walls as the canvas, accented with blue doors, windows, and railings, interwoven with the azure sky above and the surrounding blue sea to form a captivating scene.
This Mediterranean town is not only a treasure trove of natural beauty but also a melting pot of art and culture. Visitors can admire various handicrafts, taste Tunisian coffee in cafes, encounter lazy cats in quiet alleys, or simply sit quietly facing the sea, which is beautiful enough.
Travel Tips~
Best time: Spring and autumn are the best times to visit Sidi Bou Said, with pleasant weather and fewer tourists.
Dress advice: The UV rays are strong during the day, so it is advisable to take precautions against the sun. The town has many cobblestone roads, so it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.
Cultural respect: Respect local culture and religious customs, and obtain consent before photographing local people or religious sites.
The Blue and White Town of Tunisia: Sidi Bou Said (1)
The town of Sidi Bou Said is located on the Mediterranean cliffs north of Tunis city. The houses in the town are almost exclusively in two colors: blue doors and windows, white walls, simple and beautiful, earning it the nickname 'The Blue and White Town'.
It gives a feeling of tranquility and comfort, which I really like
There are many cafes in the town ☕️, where you can slow down the pace of travel and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
Tunisia's Mediterranean blue and white town
The blue and white town of 'Sidi Bou Said' is located on the southern coast of the Mediterranean, at the northeastern corner of the city of Tunis, facing the Gulf of Tunis. With white walls, blue door frames and windows, it features Andalusian and Arab architectural characteristics, becoming one of the world's four major blue and white towns (along with Morocco's Chefchaouen, Greece's Santorini, and India's Jodhpur).
It is said that almost every building in the town was once the residence of a celebrity, preserving many of their stories.
Cafes
1: At the top of the hill, there is a famous century-old cafe, 'Cafe des Nattes'; it became famous because a French painter painted a 'view of a mosque' here; both inside and outside the cafe are covered with mats, hence the name Cafe des Nattes. A cup of mint pine nut tea costs only 8 DT.
2: Further in, on the cliff, there is a 'Cafe des Delices'; this cafe is a true Tunisian tourism card, offering an unobstructed view of the bay, with tiered platform seating that makes for great photo opportunities. Coffee costs 15 DT (a bit expensive, but great for photos)
Tunisia
CityItinerary 1: The Bardo Museum, converted from part of the palace, is the second richest museum in the world in terms of mosaic collections, only after Cairo, attracting many photography teams to shoot here.
Itinerary 2: Medina Old City, one of the World Heritage Sites, a 1300-year-old 'maze city' in Arab style, full of gold shops, snacks, all kinds of goods... and outright robbery. Fortunately, the teammate's phone was hanging on his finger, just got a scare, and dared not to stay any longer.
Itinerary 3: Sidi Bou Said, also known as the blue and white town, is as famous as Santorini in Greece and Chefchaouen in Morocco. The yacht pier by the sea has a bit of the atmosphere of Dubrovnik at sunset. For the past two days, we parked anywhere in the city, mistakenly thinking that the whole country was the same. We didn't expect there to be a meter here, and as a result, our car was locked. After unsuccessful communication, we obediently paid a fine of 30 dinars.
Experience: The main languages of Tunisians are French and Arabic, and most people have heavy English accents. In this case, translation software and body language are even more useful.
