Sandanbeki Cliffs in Shirahama, Wakayama - A Unique Attraction
Located on the coast of Shirahama in Wakayama, the Sandanbeki Cliffs were once a hiding spot for the navy, which could also be referred to as pirates. There are two parking lots available, both chargeable.
Admission is 1,500 Japanese yen per person. After purchasing a ticket, you can take the elevator next to it to visit the Sandanbeki Cliffs 36 meters underground.
The caves inside the Sandanbeki Cliffs were formed by wave erosion and are incredibly majestic. The size of the waves also affects the viewing experience, but usually, the waves are impressively powerful🌊. There's also a shrine inside for protection.
The place has also been listed as a top spot for lovers, making it a great dating destination. After visiting the interior, there's a platform outside where you can enjoy the view, and there's also an outdoor foot bath area for resting. The recommended stay is about 30 minutes to an hour.
Safari World, Adventure World,
We took Safari ride to visiting Herbivore zone and carnivore zone and are arranged to feed giraffe and Rhino, funny experience but bit excited. Spent 80 mins for whole ride about 1.5 km with slow speed and guided by pilot car. Pilot keeps talking to you over walkie talkie and introduce the animals along the trip. You should make reservation on their web page if you want to drive by yourself which cost you about 20,000 yen. You can also choose to ride buggy but it is allowed to visit herbivore zone only.
"Wakayama Shirahama Family Ryokan Recommendation ~ Shirahama Saicho Rakuyu Kuai Resort ♨️"
#JapanKoreaCityHotel
The #Shirahama Choi Chao Le Soup Fast Resort has 3 large baths and 3 open-air baths, some of which require swimsuits, and there are also private chartered baths for a fee♨️.
In addition to the bath, there is a free "#Children's Playground", a summer-only outdoor pool 🏊🏻♀️ and a climbing wall 🧗🏻♀️ for children to unwind ⚡️, perfect for families.
The hotel will provide free yukata for guests to wear, you can choose the color and urine in the lobby, and the belt is in the room😊.
After putting away your luggage🧳, the piggy bank went to the free "#Children's Playground" for the first time. There are ball pools, bouncy beds, small slides🛝, etc. Although the place is not big, it is enough to unwind The first time I played in a yukata 🤭🤭🤭
Next to the playground, there are also facilities such as pinball 🧸, driving 🚗, slot machines 🎰, which is really suitable for children 😊
After the battery⚡️, we went to have dinner, dinner is buffet form, rich food, but also parent-friendly, piggy bank can choose their own food to get food, plus you can eat dinner in a yukata, really eat Especially happy😋 After dinner we also went to soak in the hot spring♨️, really satisfied😍
The room is a Japanese-style Japanese-style room, the space is very spacious, the room has a table, you can talk with friends while eating fruit 🍉, really very relaxing 😌, the entrance also has a large space to put luggage 🧳, really more than a few people live It will be crowded 🤣
The washroom is relatively small, but there is a small bathtub 🛁, cleanliness satisfactory 😊
The whole hotel experience was very satisfactory, very holiday feeling, next time I go to stay a few more days 😌. The only thing is that the luggage 🧳 needs to be moved up the stairs to get to the guest room, so if you have mobility difficulties 🧑🦼, book a room to note that you have to book an accessible room 😊

Sandanbeki Cliffs
Finally got to come to this place after about half a year later! Came here last July but it was raining, my family and I couldn't do much but make a U-turn even after a long 2 hours ride from Osaka. It was a bright sunny weather this time with nice cloud covers too. Managed to clear this attraction before the nasty rain clouds came in hahaha. As this is our 2nd attraction of the day, we didn't have much time so we skipped the cave exploration( tickets purchase required).

Beautiful Rock Formations in Wakayama
Shirahama, a must place to visit when you travel at Wakayama Prefecture. Not just a home of good beaches and seafoods but of beautiful rock formations too. Shirahama has a white stretch of white beach that can be enjoyed by everyone for free especially on summer season. The multi tiered rock formations and great views of the bedrock where the action of waves are sculptured are among those highly visited spots by tourists. Don't forget to drop by on Engetsu Island viewing deck to capture the sunset.
#japantravel
Sandanbeki Cliff has two parts, both the inside and the outside. To access the underground caves, you would have to take an elevator down, and follow the path to see the different parts of the underground caves. There are areas where you can see the rocks that have been washed and cut out by the waves, and the splashing of the waves can be quite surreal. Upon exiting the underground caves, do check out the cliffs as well. Heard that this place is one of the favourite suicide place in Japan. However, the view is breathtaking. Beautiful rocks cut into pieces with constant sea waves over million of years. Enjoy the fresh air and a short walk from the carpark! The view is scenic, and makes for good photos. This is definitely a good place to enjoy and embrace nature.

Hotel location close to the bus station only 5-7mins by walk, there is one supermarket nearby the hotel, really convience. For my reservation included dinner and breakfast buffet, buffet provided a lot of food choice and free drinks, the food quality was unexpected than I thought, food taste was good. Onsen was perfect, but only 2 onsens available, and one of the onsen size smaller than another, need to wait until morning to change the onsen from ladies to men, but overall was awesome. Night time can enjoy the massage chair, karaoke, comic room etc. ,the facilities was well prepared after dinner or onsen to enjoy it. Overall score was over my expectation, strongly recommend to choose this hotel.

Osaka Area | Shirahama Onsen, one of Japan's three oldest hot springs, is a great place to visit.
| Shirahama Onsen, one of Japan's three oldest hot springs, is a great place to visit.
Shirahama in Wakayama Prefecture, near Osaka, is a resort destination with fine white sand beaches and rugged coastlines. It is also the gateway to the World Heritage Kumano Kodo.
[Shirarahama Beach]
Shirarahama Beach is known as the most beautiful beach in Kansai. The fine white sand is actually imported from Australia, and the sand quality is very good. It's a great place to take photos all year round.
[Senjojiki]
Senjojiki is a coastal attraction with spectacular rocky terrain. The name comes from the fact that it looks like "a thousand stacked tatami mats." The rocks extend into the sea, and walking here feels like walking into the Pacific Ocean.
[Sandanbeki]
Sandanbeki is a cliff about 2 km long. Take the elevator down to the 36-meter Sandanbeki Cave to see the "blowhole" phenomenon up close, which looks like a whale spouting water. The cave also has Japan's largest bronze statue of Benzaiten, and exploring the cave is an exciting experience.
[Nanki Shirahama ToreTore Market]
ToreTore Market is the largest seafood market in western Japan. There is a tuna show every day around noon (you can ask the market information desk for the time). The seafood here is very cheap! There are many varieties, and you can buy sashimi or take it to the BBQ area to grill and eat.
[Engetsu Island]
Engetsu Island is an uninhabited island not far from the hotel I stayed at this time. The island is special because the center has been eroded by the sea to form a round moon-shaped gap. It is very beautiful at sunset, so be sure to come here to watch the sunset.
[FIVE SPRING RESORT THE SHIRAHAMA]
Shirahama Onsen, with a view of the Pacific Ocean, has a history of over 1,300 years and is one of Japan's three oldest hot springs. There are many hot spring hotels in Shirahama Onsen, but most of them are old. This year, FIVE SPRING RESORT THE SHIRAHAMA opened.
The resort has its own hot spring, and you can go directly from your room to the hot spring pool, which is drawn from 1,000 meters underground. Yes, the entire pool is filled with hot spring water! You can soak in the hot spring pool all year round! In addition to the hot spring pool and large bath, each room has a private bath, so you can enjoy the relaxation of a seaside vacation and soak in the ancient high-quality hot spring. This resort is also very child-friendly, with no age restrictions, making it ideal for families with children. There is a music and laser show at night, and you can walk to the beach to watch fireworks in the summer!
Summer Shirahama is 300% worth a night's stay.
🗓Itinerary: Tore Tore Market Lunch-Senjojiki-Sandanbi-Engetsu Island Dinner-Shirasahama Fireworks

Salt and other seasonings are provided. Drinks can only be ordered in the self-service area and cannot be brought in. The ingredients include various seafood, bison, vegetables, etc., and the meal time is 105 minutes.
2. Alipay can be swiped in every store. In addition to the self-service barbecue, there are also paella, sushi, curry rice, etc. in the dining area.
👍 Senjojiki ([Star][Star][Star][Star][Star])
Introduction: Senjojiki is so named because it looks like many layers (tatami) are stacked on top of each other. On the southern coast of Senjojiki stands a 50m-high cliff called Sandanbi. This large rock wall is 2km long from north to south.
[Tricycle] Transportation: Meiko Bus, get off at Senjojiki Station
🍽Catering recommendations: Coral Reef (Tabelog available for reservation) Address: 〒649-2211 500-1 Shirahama-cho, Nishimolo-gun, Wakayama Prefecture

🏨Hotel recommendation: Nanki Shirahama Infinity Spa Hotel
Soak in a hot spring on a cliff by the Pacific Ocean and chill out...
In Shirahama, Wakayama, Kansai, there is a hot spring hotel with a sea view - Shirahama Onsen Kishu. This hotel is built on a cliff by the Pacific Ocean. In addition to the "large bathhouse", there is also an "open-air bath with a sea view", where you can enjoy the sea view while soaking in the hot spring.
🏠Shirahama Onsen Kishu
📍1698-1, 649-2211 Shirahama-cho, Nishimuro-gun, Wakayama, Japan.
🚆Transportation:
It takes about 2.5 hours to drive from Osaka. You can also take the JR train, then take a taxi or the hotel bus (four times a day), and you can reach the hotel in about 15 minutes. It is a 7-minute drive from Nanki-Shirahama Airport, which is very convenient.
——
♨️Hot spring:
The hotel has three hot springs. The hot springs here include an open-air bath facing the Pacific Ocean, a private bath, and a large bathhouse.
The private baths are divided into three types: plum fragrance, stone craftsman, and rock house.
——
🛏Room conditions:
Although the hotel is located on the edge of the cape, it is surrounded by dense woods, and the overall atmosphere is particularly quiet and peaceful. After getting off the hotel bus, you can walk into the hotel along the stone path.
The guest rooms are mainly divided into three types: "Akatsuki no Sho", "Nami no Sho" and "Hama no Ya". Different types of guest rooms also have differences between double rooms, twin rooms, and duplex apartments. Some rooms in Akatsuki no Sho have open-air baths and open-air bathtubs. Most of the Hama no Ya are duplex apartments and bungalows, suitable for vacation experience.
A Day Trip to Shirahama, Wakayama
Early in the morning, take the limited express train from Shin-Osaka to Shirahama, which takes about 3 hours. The first thing to do upon arriving in Shirahama is to purchase a one-day bus pass at the Meiko Bus Shirahama Station Information Center next to Shirahama Station. This pass is cost-effective as you will be taking the Meiko Bus to various famous attractions in Shirahama throughout the day (a route map of the buses is included). The first stop is Tore Tore Market for lunch, where you can buy sashimi, seafood, and local products. There is a public area outside the market for dining.
After eating, take the bus to various attractions. It is recommended to check the bus stop signs for the arrival times of each bus to plan your schedule. The itinerary for the day is as follows: Tore Tore Market --> Shirahama Underwater Observation Tower (only viewed from the outside, did not go up the tower) --> Senjojiki --> Sandanbeki --> Engetsu Island (to watch the sunset) --> Shirahama Ginza Street (most shops are closed by dusk).
Unfortunately, the sunset that day did not align with the small hole in Engetsu Island, but it was still worth the visit. After completing the itinerary, take the Meiko Bus back to Shirahama Station and then the limited express train back to Shin-Osaka. Note that the last Meiko Bus and the last limited express train back to Shin-Osaka are quite early (the last limited express train that day was around 7 PM), so be sure to check the timetable in advance.
Off the Beaten Path in Kansai | Shirahama Day Trip Guide
|Shirahama Day Trip Guide. I've seen the sea many times, so I didn't have high expectations for the sea in Shirahama. Many people travel to Kansai and choose to come to Shirahama mainly because of the pandas and hot springs. Most people choose to go to Shirarahama Beach, but after seeing the Shirahama at Senjojiki and Sandanbeki, I strongly recommend Shirahama to those who want to explore off the beaten path in Kansai. The sea in Shirahama is a great choice!
⭕ Take the Kuroshio train to Shirahama Station
After exiting the station, you can buy a one-day bus pass for JPY 1,100 at the Meiko Bus ticket office on the left. You can store your luggage in the lockers outside the station.
⭕ From Shirahama Station, you can first go to Toretore Market (とれとれ市場). There is a large dining area in the market where you can buy various ingredients and eat. There is also a live tuna cutting show in the market.
⭕ After leaving the market, go to the farthest Sandanbeki. Take the bus to Sandanbeki Station and walk to the destination. There is an observation deck at Sandanbeki where you can see Sandanbeki from afar. Here, it just looks like an ordinary seaside cliff. Be sure to follow the path of Sandanbeki and walk inside. There is a small path where you can pass through the fence to the end of the cliff and face the surging sea. This is the essence of Sandanbeki and is well worth experiencing.
⭕ From Sandanbeki, you can walk to Senjojiki (千畳敷), which takes about 13 minutes. Senjojiki is also a seaside cliff, named because it resembles thousands of tatami mats spread over the sea. If Sandanbeki is a breathtaking view of the sea from above, then Senjojiki is a direct view of the sea. You can walk to the end of the cliff, where the waves hit the rocks in front of you. The blue waves are very visually striking.
⭕ From Senjojiki, you can take the bus to Shirarahama Beach (白良浜). After seeing such a surging sea, you will feel that the sea at Shirarahama Beach is so calm. Finally, you can go from Shirarahama Beach to Engetsu Island (円月島) and watch a sunset by the sea.
⭕ A day is enough for the whole Shirahama itinerary. The attractions are connected by buses, making transportation convenient. The scenery is very beautiful and may be one of the most magnificent sea views we've seen in Japan.
⭕ All attractions are free of charge‼️‼️ If you don't go to the cave at Sandanbeki, you can see all the above attractions without spending a penny on tickets, which is very cost-effective.
⭕ The wind is strong by the sea‼️‼️ Be sure to prepare for the wind. Be careful with your hat (don't ask me how I know). Sandanbeki and Senjojiki are close to the sea, so be sure to pay attention to safety and stay away from the coast.

Shirahama, Osaka, Japan: A Seaside Town to Soothe the Soul
🏖Shirahama is like a dazzling seaside pearl next to Osaka. It has a charming coastline, with golden beaches that shine in the sun. The fine sand slips through your fingers, as if telling the gentle story of the sea.
🌊The azure waters are crystal clear. Standing by the sea, watching the waves roll in, it feels like the sea is embracing the land. The horizon meets the sky in the distance, and the beauty of the water and sky is mesmerizing. Strolling along the beach, the sea breeze gently caresses your cheeks with a faint salty smell, and all your worries are left behind.
♨️Shirahama's hot springs are also a must-try. Soaking in the warm spring water, your fatigue gradually dissipates. The scenery around the hot spring pools is beautiful, and some offer views of the sea. Soaking in the hot springs while watching the waves crash against the shore is an unparalleled experience.
🍣In terms of food, there is fresh seafood. Fatty salmon, tender shrimp, and chewy octopus are made into exquisite sashimi that melts in your mouth, with a delicious taste that spreads across your tongue. There are also various traditional Japanese dishes, each full of local flavor, satisfying your taste buds while also allowing you to experience the charm of Japanese food culture.

A Magical Journey with Pandas and Dolphins at Adventure World Shirahama
Adventure World Shirahama is an ideal dreamland for a family outing, especially with its impressive panda and dolphin shows! As soon as I entered the park, I was captivated by the adorable pandas in the Panda House. Watching them lazily sleep or munch on bamboo instantly melted away all my worries. Every move they made was so cute that I couldn't take my eyes off them!
Then came the much-anticipated dolphin show! These intelligent dolphins, guided by their trainers, performed incredible jumps and spins. Every time they leaped out of the water and gracefully soared through the air, the audience erupted in enthusiastic cheers. The bond and trust between humans and animals were truly touching. Especially during the moments of interaction between the dolphins and people, the harmony and joy were infectious to everyone present.
At Adventure World Shirahama, you can not only get up close with adorable animals but also experience the beautiful interactions between humans and nature, and humans and animals. Whether it's the pandas' laziness or the dolphins' energy, every corner of this place is filled with joy and warmth. If you love animals, don't miss out on this heartwarming park!

Stay at the hemispherical 'Bobo House' in Wakayama for one night with two meals.
When traveling with children, sometimes you want to experience unique accommodations. Although this place may not be of the highest quality, it is very special. It has a playground, and children will definitely have a great time. The location is very close to the must-visit attraction for kids, 'Adventure World.'
The accommodation is located in ToreTore PARK, a theme park in Shirahama that offers local specialties, seafood, shopping, gourmet food, hot springs, lodging, and fishing. The guesthouse provides children's-sized yukatas, and the staff will ask guests if they need them upon check-in.
The one-night, two-meal package generally includes admission to two nearby large hot spring baths, perfect for those who love hot springs.
Both breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style, featuring authentic Japanese sashimi, seafood, and cooked dishes. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, so if it's crowded, you may have to wait for a table.
Wakayama Shirahama Seaside Private Onsen Inn: Great Value for Money
When traveling to Japan, soaking in an onsen is a must. If you prefer some privacy and don't want to visit the large public baths, the best option is to book an inn with a private onsen in the room. This way, you can enjoy the hot springs anytime you want!
This inn features Japan's first electric open-close outdoor baths in all guest rooms. With just a press of a button, the stylish onsen living room transforms into an open-air bath with a stunning sea view. You can fully enjoy the ocean, horizon, starry sky, moonlight, and the serene sound of waves...
This is a new type of onsen inn that also has a private beach. In the evening, you can play with fireworks on the private beach (bring your own from the supermarket). The hotel staff generally speak English and will thoroughly explain the room facilities and meal times upon check-in.
As for food, dinner is a charcoal-grilled set meal served in the restaurant, and breakfast is an American-style breakfast. Both meals are generous and sincere, and they also cater well to children's food needs. This is definitely a very considerate inn.

Shirahama in Southern Japan: Senjojiki, Perfect for Spring
Senjojiki is a natural landscape located in Shirahama in southern Japan, facing the Sea of Japan. It boasts a stunning ocean view. Why is it called Senjojiki? Because the area is large enough to spread nearly 1,000 tatami mats. Enjoying a cup of coffee while feeling the sea breeze, many people come here just to check in and take photos.
Doesn't it look like layers upon layers of tatami mats when you look at the pictures? 🤪
This amazing two-bedroom suite comes with a modern full kitchen and a toilet, but no shower room. However, there's one available on the first floor, a public hot spring bathhouse, which isn't crowded. It's very close to the beach, with various restaurants lining the streets on both sides. I recommend taking a stroll to the nearby seafood market and trying out the authentic fisherman's restaurant upstairs.#白濱 #Sirohama #南紀白濱溫泉

Strolling in Shirahama | The white sand and blue sea under the scorching sun
🏖️If you come to Shirahama, you naturally want to stroll on the beach and look at the sea. The weather in mid and late September is still extremely hot, the sun in the morning is fierce, and there are few people playing and frolicking on the beach.
=== === === === === === === === ===
🔻The characteristic of Shirahama is the white beach. The popular place to play is 'Shirarahama'. The sand here is made of siliceous sandstone crushed by waves. This kind of siliceous sandstone is also used as a raw material for glass, presenting a bright white like snow. However, due to the advancement of tourism and real estate development, the supply of sand has decreased and the area of the beach has decreased. In order to protect this tourist resource, Wakayama Prefecture has started a 'beach nourishment' plan since 1989. After a component survey, it was found that the sand in Perth, Australia, is compatible with Shirahama. Since then, about 140,000 tons of Australian sandstone have been supplemented here.
🔻Take the Meiko Bus to 'Senjojiki', where there are large white rocks stacked up formed by the erosion of the sea waves all year round. You can see the magnificent Pacific Ocean on it.
🔻Then walk for 5 minutes and go to 'Sandanheki'. It is recommended to look at the sea on the cliff, the cave inside is not very good-looking.
=== === === === === === === === ===
🚌Transportation
🔻My hotel is in 'Shirarahama'. Take the 'Meiko Bus' from here to 'Senjojiki'/'Sandanheki'.
🔻It is recommended to buy a 'Meiko Bus One-Day Ticket' (Figures 10 and 11), so you can go to all places in Shirahama in one day. You can buy the electronic version in the Jorudan transfer guide app, which supports Alipay and is very convenient.

Cool zoo with plenty to see and do. A bit too expensive and the prices inside the zoo are a bit of the high side as well. So we borrowed an animal designed kids buggy for the day but it was 1,700 yen [500 yen deposit] and then close to the food court there was a play area but you had to pay to enter and play in it. The zoo itself had a great array of animals and was well spaced out. It was easy to get up close and personal with quite a lot of the animals and see them outside of cages rather than the usual cages with bars. Also, the lighting in the penguin exhibit was...trippy.
