Matsushima National Treasure Zuiganji Temple!!
After enjoying a ferry trip around Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, one of the Three Most Scenic Spots of Japan, we visited the nearby Zuiganji Temple, a national treasure associated with Date Masamune!!
Zuiganji Temple is said to have been founded by Jikaku Daishi in 828, and during the Kamakura period it became a Rinzai Zen temple with Hoshin Shosai, who had traveled to Song China, as its founding priest.
The founder of the domain, Date Masamune, began construction of the temple in 1604, and it took five years to complete, in 1609.
It is said to be a representative structure of the Momoyama period, with the main hall, kitchen, Onari-genkan, corridor, and important cultural properties Onari-mon, Naka-mon, and Taiko-bei!!
A national treasure indeed!!
Worth a visit

Matsushima's beauty is not just about the sea!!
#Matsushima is well known as one of the #ThreeViewsOfJapan, but Matsushima's beauty is not limited to the scenery of the sea and small islands. #Zuiganji Temple and #Entsuin Temple are historical buildings with beautiful gardens and #cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms can only be seen in spring, but the gardens are well-maintained all year round, so you can enjoy them all year round.
Zuiganji Temple is famous for its painted sliding doors. It is also a place where the effects of the tsunami from the Great East Japan Earthquake can be felt.
It is said that #DateMasamune, who was once famous in #Sendai, enjoyed moon viewing here, and there is also a cave, so it is truly full of charm.
