West Lake Park: A Big Park in the Big City
Fuzhou is most impressive for its lush greenery, with large trees throughout the city and numerous parks.
One of my favorite parks is West Lake Park (西湖公园) because it is easily accessible by public transportation and is located right in the city center, making the travel time short.
It's a great option for those who want to experience local life, as it's a popular spot for Fuzhou residents to relax. On weekends, the park is bustling with families. Inside, there's a large lake with boats available for scenic rides.
Entrance Fee: Free (for the public park area)

Fuzhou West Lake Park
Located at the Wulong Mountain in the northwest of Fuzhou city center, it is the most completely preserved classical garden in Fuzhou, known as the 'Pearl of Fujian Gardens'
West Lake Park was excavated by the prefect Yan Gao in the third year of Tai Kang of the Jin Dynasty (AD 282), and it has a history of more than 1700 years. By the end of the Tang Dynasty, it had already become a tourist attraction. During the Five Dynasties, Wang Shenzhi's second son, Wang Yandiao, succeeded to the throne and built pavilions, terraces, towers, and pavilions on the lake, setting up pleasure boats in the lake. West Lake became an imperial garden, and by the Song Dynasty, it was even more prosperous. In the eighth year of the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1828), Lin Zexu built stone embankments along the lake, and it was newly renovated. In 1914, it was opened as West Lake Park.
West Lake Park has a typical classical garden layout of 'one pond and three islands' consisting of Kaihua Isle, Xieping Isle, and Yaojiao Isle, connected by Willow Dike, Flying Rainbow Bridge, Jade Belt Bridge, and Stepping Cloud Bridge, like three pieces of jade set in the blue water, blending with the Great Dream Mountain to achieve a unified landscape of mountains and water
When dusk falls and the setting sun
The lake surface turns a warm golden color,
The reflection of the buildings on the opposite shore in the water
The ripples are tender,
A sight too beautiful for words.

Fuzhou's West Lake, an undeniable charm of the Jiangnan region
After arriving in Fuzhou, I was immediately captivated by the city's leisurely pace and tranquility. But what truly enchanted me was the serene oasis hidden amidst the urban hustle and bustle—Fuzhou West Lake Park. 🍃
🌞Morning at West Lake
The West Lake in the morning seems gently awakened by the golden sunlight. The lake surface sparkles, reflecting the rising sun, creating a scene as beautiful as a flowing ink painting. Strolling along the lakeside path, the crisp chirping of birds and the sight of verdant willow branches swaying in the wind lift my spirits. 🌿
🌸A Springtime Bursting with Flowers
Spring at West Lake is indescribably beautiful. Peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, magnolias... a variety of flowers bloom in competition, adorning the park with a kaleidoscope of colors. Walking among the blossoms feels like being in a dreamy fairyland, making it hard to leave. 🌼
🛶Boating on the Lake, Enjoying the Leisure
Of course, a visit to West Lake wouldn't be complete without the pleasure of boating. Renting a small boat and gently rowing across the lake, feeling the breeze on your face, and admiring the lake and mountain scenery is a truly unique enjoyment. 🌊

For photography enthusiasts, West Lake is a rare paradise. Whether it's the reflections on the lake, the splendor of the flowers, or the quaint pavilions, towers, and pagodas, each provides an excellent backdrop for photography. Here, you can unleash your creative passion and capture your beautiful moments. 📷
🍵Savoring Fuzhou, with a Lasting Aroma of Tea
Beyond the scenery, Fuzhou's tea culture is not to be missed. In the teahouses within the park, sipping an authentic cup of Fuzhou jasmine tea, feeling the fusion of tea aroma with the lake and mountain views, it's as if time slows down. 🍵
Fuzhou West Lake Park is not just a great place for relaxation, but also a sanctuary for the soul. Here, you can put aside your busy work, escape the noise of the city, and quietly appreciate the beauty of life. 🌳

Kaihua Temple:
Kaihua Temple is located in West Lake Park in Fuzhou. It was originally the private residence of Xie Tingzhu in the Ming Dynasty. The predecessor of the temple was just a small nunnery next to the house. In the third year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1524), the prefect Wang Wensheng donated money to build a temple with the name of 'Kaihua'. It is the oldest building in the park, said to have been built in the fourth year of Jingyou in the Northern Song Dynasty (1037). During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522~1566), the prefect Wang Wensheng donated money for reconstruction. The existing buildings were rebuilt in the 44th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1705) by Governor Jin Shirong, with the main hall in the middle, the Zen hall in the back, the bell and drum towers on both sides, and the guest house on the left and the abbot's room on the right.]
Xianqiao Willow Color, etc.
Small suggestion:
It is suitable for walking here, because the area is very large, it is recommended to wear a pair of comfortable sports shoes to play, otherwise you will get blisters (don't ask why).
The best time to play is on a sunny day, the experience will be better.

Fuzhou West Lake Park - A down-to-earth people's park
The hotel I chose this time was originally intended to be closer to Sanfang Qixiang, but I found out in the morning that Fuzhou West Lake Park was actually closer. Yesterday, I drove from Quzhou to Fuzhou, and the weather was indeed a bit warmer, and the wind was not cold. Therefore, it's great to take a walk in West Lake Park.
The former Lin Zexu Academy has become Donglai Famous Tea. There are fewer people in the morning. Together with my parents, we sat down and ordered a pot of tea. The charge for three people is 58/pot, which is much cheaper than West Lake in Hangzhou.
In the afternoon, we went to the Fuzhou Museum, and on the way back, we walked through West Lake Park from another direction. The wooden plank road and the big banyan tree, this road feels great. Many pavilions in the park are lit up in the evening, with the shadows of the trees swaying, which feels more flavorful than in the morning.
Disadvantages: Although there are many things related to West Lake, such as the Jade Belt Bridge, West Lake Academy, and Lake West Pavilion, there are still very few things with connotations inside. Many buildings that look antique are vacant inside, soulless and only superficial.
Owen Young
With more than 1,700 years of history, Fuzhou West Lake Park is the most complete classical garden in Fuzhou. From the gate, it is the Liudi, the long embankment, and the weeping willow.
Stepped into the Ziwei Hall by Liudi, the side of the Ziwei Hall is filled with crape myrtle flowers, pink, purple and red. Behind the Ziwei Hall is the bonsai garden, and the bonsai garden is the Kaihua Temple.
Kaihua Temple is the oldest building in the center of Kaihua Island. The legend is built in the Northern Song Dynasty Jingyou four years (1037). During the Jiajing Period (1522-1566), the prefect of Wang Wensheng donated funds for reconstruction. The existing building was rebuilt by Governor Shi Shirong of the Qing Emperor Kangxi forty-four years (1705). The middle is the main hall, the latter is the meditation hall, the two wings are the bell and drum tower, the left is the guest, and the right is the abbot room.
The temple looks like the ancient and elegant, hot weather, there are not many tourists, and the quiet temple is more quiet. The unknown tree in front of the temple also has a string of pink and yellow flowers in a low-key manner, echoing the ancient temple.
Very quiet park, every time you come to Fuzhou, you have to visit here.
