Cambodia never failed to amaze us with its astonishing wat and this is one of them.
We read the history and we were always in shocked by how old they are. Others in Cambodia are older though but this monastery was established in 1443. wow!

Wat Ounalom, the oldest temple in Phnom Penh.
Wat Ounalom, a historic religious site in Phnom Penh, is not only known for its majestic pagodas, but also for its profound Buddhist culture. The name "Ounalom" has a special meaning, which is directly translated as "sacred eyebrows". It is said that the iconic pagoda in the temple houses the sacred eyebrows of a high monk, adding a touch of mystery to the ancient temple.
Today, this ancient temple has become the core hub of Cambodian Buddhist activities. The scenes of monks studying scriptures and exchanging wisdom here have become a peaceful and solemn landscape in the hearts of believers and tourists.
It is worth mentioning that the pagoda in the temple enshrines a precious Buddha relic, which came from Ceylon in 1890. Its sacred brilliance attracted the attention of countless dignitaries. They chose to build cremation pagodas in Wat Ounalom, hoping to place the ashes of their ancestors next to the Buddha for eternal blessings and peace. This tradition has gradually gathered into a spectacular pagoda forest. Each pagoda carries the descendants' respect and remembrance for their ancestors, and also witnesses the immortal status of Wat Ounalom as an important carrier of Buddhist culture.

Finding Peace in Wat Ounalom Monastery
In Phnom Penh, a city that never seems to slow down, I found a little piece of peace at Wat Ounalom. This place isn't like the big, flashy spots that everyone tells you to check out. It's quieter, kind of like a secret garden in the middle of a noisy city.
I wasn't really looking for it when I found it. I was just wandering around, trying to soak in everything about Phnom Penh on my first day in the city. But when I walked through the gates of Wat Ounalom, it felt like stepping into a whole new world.
It's easy to miss Wat Ounalom with all the other big things to see in Phnom Penh, but I'm so glad I didn't. It showed me a different side of the city, one that's calm and full of stories. If you're ever in Phnom Penh, take a break from the rush and check out Wat Ounalom. It might just be the peaceful moment you didn't know you needed.
