Queenstown, named one of the top ten travel destinations in the world by National Geographic
Queenstown, named one of the top ten travel destinations in the world by National Geographic
👍Most recommended:
Queenstown: Surrounded by the Southern Alps and located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, the houses in the town are built in a well-proportioned manner facing the lake and the mountains. It was named because the colonists believed that the beautiful scenery here should belong to the Queen of England. It is also famous for its rich and diverse outdoor activities, and is also known as the "Adventure Capital of the World."
Lake Wakatipu: The second longest lake in New Zealand, with an area of 291K㎡, a length of 84km, and an average depth of 300m. Due to special geographical conditions, the wind pressure changes in the surrounding mountains form "lake earthquakes", resulting in a unique "tidal" phenomenon. Its water surface rises or falls by about 7.5-20cm every 6 minutes. According to Maori legend, this phenomenon is caused by the heartbeat of Mata'u, a sleeping giant at the bottom of the lake. There is still a "good friend" on the lake who has been with him for more than a hundred years. She is the "Lady of the Lake" TSS Earnslaw steamship.
TSS Twin Screw Steamer Earnslaw: Known as the “grande dame” of Lake Wakatipu, it made its maiden voyage in 1912 in the same year as the Titanic. It is the only coal-fired steam passenger ship still sailing in the southern hemisphere. A must-see cruise in Queenstown. Friends, come and set foot on this small 19th-century industrial revolution heritage. Listen to its whistling and accompanied by the music of the luthier, travel to the McKenzie Family Farm/Walter Peak Farm and experience the comfortable life of a cowboy. After returning, you can go to the Boradwalk next to the pier to dine. Be sure to choose the outfield by the lake. Listen to the sound of waves by the lake, cuddle up by the fire, have a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, Cheers! No regrets in life!
Dear friends! Even though the wine is good, don’t be greedy!

Purchase tickets for the cruise at least one day in advance:
The time required for the round-trip single boat ticket project is about 1.5 hours, and the other projects are
3.5h;
The introduction and performance of the farm are all explained in English;
When visiting the farm, be sure to follow the guided tour, and children must pay attention to safety.
Queenstown Gardens: Located on a peninsula on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, not far from the TSS Earnslaw Steamship Terminal. When I went there, the light was perfect and it looked like a scene in Alice in Wonderland. Kind tips
The town center is not big, so it is recommended to park at the hotel and walk there.
Hey guys! There are also Big Face Burger, Internet celebrity candy store and Cookietime store (this store is better than the Auckland Factory store) waiting for you to order your cards!

Is the TSS Steamship cruise on Lake Wakatipu really worth it?
👉Opinions about the TSS Steamship in Queenstown are mixed online, with many people feeling that the activity is not cost-effective and rather boring.
💁🏻♀️In fact, you only know if something suits you after you've experienced it. As our kids had never been on an 🚢 old steamship, we decided to give it a try, and the experience exceeded our expectations! Compared to Queenstown's extreme activities, this gentle and relaxing option is very suitable for family trips!
📍Boarding location: TSS Earnslaw - RealNZ
⏰Available times: Pure cruise from 9 am to 7 pm on the hour, ➕ lunch at 11 am, 12 pm, 13 pm, ➕ dinner at 17 pm, 19 pm.
🎫Ticket prices: Pure cruise 400+, half price for children over 5. ➕ lunch average 600+ per person, 200+ for children over 5. ➕ dinner average 700+ per person, 400+ for children over 5.
❤️The TSS Earnslaw steamship is a vessel full of historical charm. It has been sailing on this beautiful lake since the early 20th century and is still the only coal-fired steamship in operation in the Southern Hemisphere!
🌟We booked the 🕑 17 pm slot, which is a bit more expensive than the afternoon ones. The whole journey is about 3 and a half hours. The ship slowly leaves the dock, the lake surface shimmers, and the distant mountains are faintly visible!
🚢The ship has two levels, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. The upper level has better views by the windows. The interior is quite retro, and I took my child to tour the entire ship, where we could see the ship's structure and operating principles, which the kids found fascinating! After the tour, you can choose to sit in the cabin and gaze at the lake in tranquility, or sit outside and enjoy the breeze and watch the 🌊 waves. It's really pleasant and not boring at all!
🌟After sailing for about 30-40 minutes, we arrived at a farm on the opposite shore. Before dining, you can stroll around nearby, and there are many cute 🦆 ducks by the lake. It's worth mentioning that the trip also thoughtfully provides children with drawing paper and crayons, so they can create while enjoying the lake view!
🍖The restaurant has a retro vibe, with an all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner. I especially loved the lamb chops and steak, super delicious! After dinner, you can watch a sheep shearing show, and there's even a live sheepdog herding 🐏 show, which the kids found very interesting. They couldn't resist touching the sheared wool afterwards🤩

Every second is a scene at Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown, New Zealand
🌟Practical information:
📍Surroundings: The towns around the lake include Queenstown, the villages of Kingston, Glenorchy, and Kinloch
❤Ticket price: Free🆓
Lake Wakatipu, shaped like a lightning bolt⚡, is the third largest lake in New Zealand. Due to its unique shape, a unique 'tidal' phenomenon is formed on the lake. Formed by glacial movement, it is surrounded by mountains, with the highest Mount Earnslaw at an altitude of 2819 meters.
📍In the embrace of Queenstown on the South Island, Lake Wakatipu reflects the magnificence of the Remarkables mountain range like a mirror, further feeling the magnificent and wonderful nature❗
🔆Walking by the lake, as if in a fairyland, the lake and the mountains together paint a grand picture. Here, you can have a deep conversation with nature, it is a good place to relax and enjoy😀
🧊All year round, visitors can fish in Lake Wakatipu. Especially at the mouths of the Greenstone River and Lochy River, there are a large number of salmon, which is a paradise for anglers, and you will definitely not make a vain trip. In summer, it is a popular place for swimming and cooling off, which is popular with tourists🤗🤗
✅Must experience: The antique steamboat T.S.S. Earnslaw offers several ferry services to the other end of the lake, Walter Peak, every day.🚤 You can also take an old steamboat to explore the old memories along the traces of the years. Boating on the lake, experiencing leisurely and comfortable time, is an incomparable enjoyment.

A steamship that rivals a floating museum.
When visiting Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand, it is a must to take a ride on the famous steamship. Tickets should be booked in advance as there is no guarantee of availability on the day of travel, with a maximum capacity of 350 passengers.
Location: There is a small pier on the lakeside in the center of Queenstown City. The building is a ticket office, and you can board the ship after leaving the ticket office.
Ship name: TSS Earnslaw, a twin screw steamer, nicknamed "The Lady of the Lake".

History: A transport ship built in England in 1912, costing 20,000 pounds. Its parts were shipped to New Zealand for assembly. With the development of highways and the decline of shipping, it was converted into a tourist ship in 1969. Now it is the only steam-powered ship in the southern hemisphere.

TSS Earnslaw Steamship
Cruise into the Steamship and enjoy the panaromic view of Queenstown. The feeling is so great while there is a lady play piano and everyone sang together in the ship. There is food and drink can be purchased as well like cup of coffee or slice of cake. Also can walk to the outside area to enjoy the view and take some photos. Highly recommend.
