Beijing Summer Palace｜Cixi's Back Garden, finally my turn to visit

A back garden larger than a village. Luckily, I did some research before going. Only arranged for a ticket of 30/person (a combo ticket might be too much to cover). ✔️ Our Leisure Tour Guide We entered through the East Palace Gate → Hall of Benevolence and Longevity → Hall of Joyful Longevity → Long Corridor along the lake → Tower of Buddhist Incense → Tour in the Painting → Exit through North Ruyi Gate (basically covered everything we wanted to see and photograph). (On the Long Corridor, you can see the South Lake Island and the Seventeen-Arch Bridge across the lake). ✔️ For those who want to take a boat ride on the lake From Tour in the Painting → to the dock (40/person) → get off at South Lake Island → Seventeen-Arch Bridge → Bronze Ox → you can directly exit from the New Palace Gate.

Attractions - The Palace is very big and there are different kinds of activities that you can do inside. The activities will differ which season you visit the Summer Palace. We went there last winter and we saw people skiing on the icy lake. If you go there in winter make sure your coat is thick enough it gets too cold there because it’s in the countryside. The Emperor’s Summer Palace or simply short “summer palace” as the name suggests, was an imperial garden created for the emperors of the Qing dynasty for relaxation especially during the summer months. It’s main features include: Kunming Lake, The Long Corridor, Longevity Hill, The Marble Boat, the Buddha Temple of incense. Its history is quite an interesting one. This area of about 290 hectares of land was first built in 1750 and has since then been destroyed and rebuilt twice. The first time it was destroyed was in 1860 when the Anglo-French allied forces invaded Beijing during the second opium war. In 1880, Empress Dowager Cixi rebuilt the palace with embezzled money from the navy under the guise of setting up a navy academy inside. In 1900, the palace was invaded again, this time by the the Eight power allied Forces. Empress Dowager who ran away from the palace came back in 1902 to rebuild it again. The rebuild was completed in 1903.
