Yogyakarta's Water Palace (Taman Sari) may not cover a large area, but its unique historical atmosphere and architectural style make it worth a visit. The entire site can be toured in about 15 minutes on foot, but the exquisite royal bathing pools, hidden underground mosque, and unique Javanese-Portuguese architectural style make this short trip full of surprises. On the day of our visit, the Water Palace was crowded with locals, with people taking photos in almost every corner. Finding a quiet spot to take a picture was really challenging, and even taking a simple photo required waiting in line. The place was bustling with people. Although the site itself was beautiful, we didn't stay long because of the crowd. After a brief walk to soak in the local atmosphere, we decided to leave. Although we couldn't take leisurely photos as we had hoped, experiencing the history and the enthusiasm of the crowd here was a different kind of experience!

The tourists can climb the Tamansari tower so they can enjoy the view from above, can see the scenery with relief, observe the two ponds in the north and south. In the tower there is a window with bars made of pristine wood that has not been replaced since the first time the tower was built. Tamansari Water Castle used to be a place for princesses to bathe and be ‘hunted’ by the sultan. Located near the Kraton in the city center of Jogja. Some of its original functions were a place to rest, meditate, work, hide, and defend the Sultan’s family. Now, this place has become homes for local resident and only the mosque, resting, and bathing space, and underground tunnels are accessible by tourists. It’s a really nice place for photoshot, it has good nuance and also vintage feels, and you can even find couple in their wedding dress taking photoshoot here. Some of its original functions were a place to rest, to meditate, to work, to hide and to defend the Sultan’s family It is about 15min walk from the Kraton, but you will have to ask around to find the right entrance. If you get here by motorbike there is a cost for parking 2000rp. The entrance for foreigners is 15000rp and if you want to get a tour guide you will have to pay extra. If you get to the castle without a guide the experience will be different as there are so many ruins and you will not understand the meaning. It is a small area to walk but it is good to see if you are in Yogyakarta.
