Hangzhou | A Crazy Day of Merit Accumulation
⛩ The road up the mountain is long and winding. Do modern young people really have such faith in gods and Buddhas? Buses and cars are jammed in traffic, but cycling up the mountain is the best way to go. However, the steep ascents and descents are really tiring. After visiting the temple, I indulged in two bowls of noodles.
🚴♀️ I cycled to the entrance of Faxi Temple, and from there, the rest of the mountain path had to be completed on foot. Upon entering, I was given three sticks of incense, but there was a queue to burn them, so I took them home as a souvenir instead.
📷 Keep walking uphill after entering, and in less than 10 minutes, you'll see the popular photo spot. A bunch of girls are lining up to take pictures. It's nearly impossible to get a shot without someone in it. Before they started charging for tickets again, Buddha must have been very busy.

The yellow walls of the Shangtianzhu Temple
In the heart of Hangzhou mountains I found what has become my favourite temple in China. The bright yellow walls and amazing roofs make it a wonder to look at. The temple was a calm among the busy tourists. I got there at 6:30am which was great as it meant there were a lot less people and I could really enjoy the temple in peace. When walking to the top of the temple and then looking down at the amazing roots one can't help but be memorised by it. There were also libraries filled with very Old books which we could see monks readings. If you every in Hangzhou I would highly recommend going to this temple.

Most Impressive Temple around West Lake 🌿
I can’t vouch enough for the beauty of Shangtianzhu Temple, also known as Faxi Temple located in the lush green vegetation surrounding West Lake. It’s not as popular as other temples surrounding the lake BUT it’s the most impressive temple I’ve ever been to in China (Mind you, I’ve been to a lot!)
Accessible by a mountain alley, Faxi Temple 法喜寺 offers a stunning view of the surroundings! 🌿🕊⛰ It was built on the slope of Tianzhu mountain. The atmosphere is so serene! It’s one of those temples where you really feel Zen and connected to nature. The temple is MASSIVE! The architecture is gorgeous and vividly colourful 😍 The walls of halls with deities are covered with beautiful paintings and carvings. The outside is decorated with streamers and lanterns. You’ll see monks walking around as it’s a Buddhist Temple. I was lucky to have a glimpse of a Buddhist prayer ceremony 🤲 The temple also has a vegetarian restaurant. I also spotted a souvenir shop at the exit.
Entrance 🎟 ➡️ 10¥ only and you’re also given incense sticks. The ticket office is at the entrance or you can also buy tickets by scanning a QR code there with Alipay.
Address ➡️ No. 338, Tianzhu Road (天竺路338
号)
How to go ➡️ I took a taxi from Fengqi Road metro 🚇 station. It took about 30-40 mins to reach. Bear in mind that roads around West Lake are highly congested on the weekends) The taxi will most probably drop you off near the parking where you can access the mountain alley leading you to the entrance.

Hangzhou Faxi Temple: A peaceful journey through an ancient temple.
In Hangzhou, there is an ancient temple quietly nestled at the foot of a picturesque mountain. This is Faxi Temple.
-
Faxi Temple was built in the second year of the Baoyou period of the Southern Song Dynasty, and has a history of nearly 800 years.
-
Faxi Temple is not only a temple, but also a quiet sanctuary for meditation, attracting countless people to visit and take photos.
-
I especially like visiting temples, as they help me find peace of mind.
-
Watching the endless stream of worshippers, the curling smoke of incense, the sound of copper bells under the flying eaves, and the chanting of scriptures in my ears, all bring me peace.
-
There are too many worries in the world, and the noise of the city can be overwhelming. If you can find a place away from the hustle and bustle, even a short time of peace and quiet is precious.
-
Faxi Temple in Hangzhou is such a quiet and pleasant place, worth visiting.

🌟Bicycle: You can also ride a bike there. The scenery along the way is really beautiful, but you need to have the energy and time.

🌈✍️Travel Notes📝
1️⃣Visiting a temple on a rainy day is also a different kind of scenery. So when I saw the weather forecast saying it was going to rain, I still chose to go. And when I arrived at the gate of Faxi Temple, the drizzle stopped after a while, and I was still happy. Whenever you go out, no matter what the weather or situation, look at everything in front of you with a normal heart and an optimistic attitude. ❤️❤️❤️
2️⃣I took a high-speed train from Shanghai at around 8 am and arrived at Faxi Temple before 10:30 am. Then I walked slowly, looked around, prayed, took photos, and felt the tranquility of not being crowded!
3️⃣There is a vegetarian canteen on the right-hand side after entering Faxi Temple. We went in to eat after we finished visiting. First, line up on the right-hand side to buy meal tickets, then enter the canteen to hand in the meal tickets, and line up to get vegetarian food. Breakfast is CNY 2, and lunch and dinner are CNY 5 per person. The dishes include baby cabbage, tofu, and kaofu, a full pot, and there is also porridge and soup. If the dishes are not enough, you can get more. In short, CNY 5 is enough to fill you up. (Eat enough, don't waste it! 🧡)
4️⃣After leaving Faxi Temple, walk slowly along the trail, and you will pass by Fajing Temple and Fajing Temple, which are relatively quiet temples.
5️⃣There are some small shops along the way, you can take a look. When you are near Lingyin Temple, there is a Xide Coffee Shop, where you can sit for a while. Then walk along the shady avenue with trees on both sides for 1.5 hours to Huanglong Cave Metro Station. I had a leisurely dinner at Hangzhou East Railway Station and took the train back to Shanghai.
6️⃣Although I walked all the way, I was still quite leisurely overall. I enjoyed the fun of traveling slowly under the premise of my physical ability. 🥳
‼️Tips: Homework before going out
✅Check the travel route on the map
✅Pay attention to the time of taking public transportation. If you take a taxi or bus, estimate the traffic congestion.
✅Visit temples in a civilized manner and respect beliefs
✅When you go out, remember ♥️Safety first♥️

A must-try hiking route in Hangzhou, easy to walk and no entrance fee!
When visiting Hangzhou, besides walking along the West Lake, you should definitely try some of the wonderful hiking routes.
Today, we recommend a route that starts from Faxi Temple, goes all the way to Yangfengling, then to Longjing Village via Shililangdang, and finally to Jiuxi via Jiuxi 18 Stream.
The only uphill section is from Faxi Temple to Yangfengling, the rest is downhill and flat, so even if you have kids with you, you can easily handle it.
And the whole route is free of charge, you just need to bring a moderate amount of water and food. With a relaxed and good mood, you can enjoy the beautiful autumn scenery!

Yellow walls, red eaves, and a deep sense of Zen.
Hangzhou Faxi Temple is located in the green mountains and waters by West Lake. It is a Buddhist temple with a long history and profound cultural heritage.
Built during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, it has a history of nearly 1,500 years and is one of the key Buddhist temples in Zhejiang Province.
When you enter the temple, you will be given three sticks of incense. The flowers are blooming, the greenery is lush, and the long red lanterns hang from the treetops, contrasting with the yellow walls, full of poetry and Zen.
The entire temple is built on the mountain, with long corridors on both sides leading to the top. As you climb up the steps, you will see a different view with each step. If you turn around, you may be able to capture the ancient charm that touches your heart.
The most popular photo spot is at the top of the temple. Here, you can overlook the entire temple, with its orderly halls, flying eaves, and ancient elegance, making you marvel at the exquisite architectural skills of the ancients.
The main hall of Faxi Temple is solemn and magnificent. When you stand in front of the hall, you will first be shocked by its majestic momentum. The vermilion pillars are thick and tall, supporting the ancient roof, as if telling the story of time. The flying eaves of the roof are high and raised, like an eagle about to fly, showing the beauty of traditional Chinese architecture and giving people a sense of upward power.
The main hall of Faxi Temple is not only a building but also a cultural heritage. It witnesses the historical changes of Hangzhou and carries people's beliefs and hopes. Here, the compassion, wisdom, and tolerance of Buddhism are inherited and promoted.
Do not seek outside, but seek from the heart.

Solo Journey to Faxijiang Temple: Rediscovering Inner Peace
Visiting a temple alone is essential to truly understand its impact on human life and thought. 🏯
Exploring Faxijiang Temple by oneself is a journey to find inner peace. As you step into the ancient temple, you are enveloped by the curling incense smoke and the melodious sound of the bells, as if entering another world. The temple is filled with towering ancient trees and the sound of Buddhist chants, with every brick and tile revealing the traces of time and the profundity of Buddhist teachings. 🏞️ I slowly ascended the stone steps, paying homage to each Buddha statue, feeling a sense of transcendence and tranquility.
In a quiet corner of the Zen temple, I found a serene spot to sit down, close my eyes, and meditate, listening to the voice within. At that moment, it seemed as if all worries and troubles were carried away by the wind, leaving only purity and peace in the heart.

Hangzhou | A romantic date with paradise.
| A romantic date with paradise. 🌿The West Lake is a beauty that never ends. The lake sparkles under the sun, like a giant mirror. Walking along the lake, the breeze gently brushes your face, carrying the moist scent of the lake. The Su Causeway and Bai Causeway are like two green ribbons embedded in the West Lake. Here, whether you are admiring the simplicity of the Leifeng Pagoda or the chic of the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, it is refreshing. At that moment, it feels like all the troubles have been thrown away, as if you are one with this natural beauty.
🛕Lingyin Temple has a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Stepping into the temple gate, the scent of incense is overwhelming. The temple building is antique, and the eaves and arches show the precipitation of history. Here, listening to the chanting, watching the devout prayers of the believers, my heart becomes extraordinarily calm. It seems to have found a pure land of the soul in this bustling world.
🏞️Jiuxi Yanshu is simply a natural oxygen bar. Walking along the stream, the sound of gurgling water is endless. The trees are shaded, and the sun shines through the gaps in the leaves, forming patches of light. The air here is exceptionally fresh, take a deep breath, full of the taste of nature. Playing by the stream, feeling the coolness of the stream, it seems to be back to the carefree childhood.
🌟Faxi Temple gave me a unique feeling. Stepping into Faxi Temple, the yellow walls and black tiles are particularly eye-catching against the green trees. The buildings in the temple are stacked, with a strong sense of hierarchy. Every detail reveals exquisiteness and simplicity. Here, people pray quietly, or pray for marriage, or pray for peace. I also made my wish with a devout heart. The shelf full of prayer cards carries countless people's expectations and hopes, giving people a strong sense of humanistic feelings. Moreover, the architectural style of Faxi Temple is very suitable for taking pictures. A casual shot is a big picture, which allows people to feel the religious atmosphere and leave beautiful visual memories.
💕The trip to Hangzhou is like a dream. It has both the gentleness of the Jiangnan water town and the heaviness of history and culture. Here, every scene can touch the soul, and every corner is full of stories. I think this is the charm of Hangzhou, which makes people don't want to leave when they come, and they still miss it after they leave.

Faxi Temple in the misty rain
Faxi Temple in the rain, like an elegant ink painting, quietly unfolds before the world.
The fine rain, lightly and densely woven in the air, drapes Faxi Temple in a veil of mist. Raindrops slowly slide down the ancient eaves, dripping onto the bluestone slabs, making a crisp and pleasant sound, as if it were the most melodious movement of nature.
The incense smoke within the temple swirls in the rain and mist, adding a touch of mystery and solemnity. Devotees hold incense sticks, praying devoutly, their figures faintly visible in the misty rain, as if merging with the ancient temple.
The ancient architecture of Faxi Temple appears more rustic and elegant under the baptism of the rain. The upturned eaves, carved beams, and painted rafters, every detail reveals a profound cultural heritage. The rain washes away the traces of time, yet it also brings new vitality and vigor to these ancient buildings.
The flowers and trees within the temple are more lush under the nourishment of the rain, with flowers dotting the green leaves, gently swaying in the misty rain, as if showcasing the tenacity and beauty of life to the world.
Faxi Temple in the misty rain is a holy place where one's soul can be purified and find peace. Here, you can temporarily forget the troubles and noise of the mundane world, wishing only that time could stand still, so that this tranquility and beauty can be forever etched in your heart.

In Hangzhou
In this city, life will never feel boring. Whether it's the small pleasures of life or the great passions of career, it can meet your expectations.
During the long plum rain season, while public grievances boil over, I am most fascinated by rainy Hangzhou.
If it has just rained heavily,
Go to the wet Xixi Wetland to row a boat or just take a walk.
Sometimes, I just go to Chaitian to eat a piece of banana cake.
I also love the early morning at Faxisi Temple, chatting with Buddha in the incense, always unusually hazy, and I pray for their blessings for health and well-being.
Sit by the West Lake, enjoy the evening breeze, and watch the blooming lotus flowers.
The wind by the lake is always strong at night, the most comforting is the Broken Bridge after ten o'clock. If you walk a few more steps to the Buddhist Academy, the monks in their flowing robes walking around evoke a sense of inexplicable awe. I even sneaked in to listen to a class, and it truly felt like listening to a heavenly book.
Then walk to a teahouse to have a cup of tea and eat a few sugar cakes.
The raindrops at the door patter on the ancient bluestone slabs. Time flows slowly, and you ask what life should be like? It just flows slowly like this.

Chatting with the boatman in the sculling boat, they are always full of enthusiasm. Even if you are alone, you won't feel lonely. Sometimes they will make you a cup of tea and tell you many legends of West Lake.
Every time I climb up Yunqi Bamboo Path, I have to take deep breaths, only to find that the air has a sweet bamboo leaf scent. After sweating, I feel refreshed and invigorated.

🕐️Opening hours:
6:00-18:00 (No entry after 18:00)
🚗Transportation guide:
I took the special line from Huanglong Cave to Shangtianzhu (Faxisi Temple), it only takes two stops, and then a short walk to get there.
💗Travel experience:
On-site ticket purchase is 10 yuan per person, and you will be given three incense sticks upon entry.
As soon as you enter the temple, you feel a sense of tranquility, as if you are being healed.
There are many people praying, and sincerity brings efficacy.🙏🏻
The temple is not large, and you can finish touring in about an hour. There are many people at the popular photo spots, but everyone queues in an orderly manner.
The bracelets📿 and pendants at the Dharma circulation area are very beautiful, and it is said that they have been blessed. If you find one that catches your eye, you can take it home. I instantly fell in love with a new mountain jade bracelet, which is very clear!
Recently, they are also selling vegetarian mooncakes, 20 yuan per bucket. I recommend the pepper and salt flavor and the rose flavor!
Finally, don't forget to try the 5 yuan vegetarian meal (lunch)~ The side dishes are cabbage tofu and seaweed soup, very fragrant and appetizing!

Praying at Faxi Temple in Hangzhou
You can also take photos of Lingyin Temple from Faxi Temple (we spent about ten yuan to take a sightseeing bus ~ it was quite worth it because we were really tired We didn't go to Lingyin Temple because it was too crowded!
We went to Faxi Temple and the First God of Wealth Temple in the world. There are more styles of bracelets at Faxi Temple ~ we arrived around eight in the morning.
There are fewer people in the morning, and the experience is much better! It's also more convenient to take photos! But there are still many people at the popular photo spots, so you have to wait in line for a while.

Faxi Temple
Shangtianzhu Faxi Lecture Temple, also known as Shangtianzhu or Faxi Temple, is located at No. 338 Tianzhu Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It was first built in the early Tianfu period of the Later Jin Dynasty (936 AD). During the Southern Song Dynasty, it was renamed Tianzhu Teaching Temple, and during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, it was granted the name Faxi Temple. It was reopened to the public in 1986. The existing buildings of Shangtianzhu Faxi Lecture Temple have been gradually constructed since its reopening in 1986. The main structures include the Mountain Gate Archway, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Hall of Universal Salvation, the Mahavira Hall, the Release Pond, the Dining Hall, the Guest Hall, and the East and West Corridors. The layout is solemn and well-arranged. Shangtianzhu Faxi Lecture Temple is famous for the efficaciousness of Guanyin and its thriving incense offerings. Many emperors throughout history have paid homage here. Especially since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, during the spring incense season, pilgrims from various places in eastern Zhejiang and southern Jiangsu have come to offer incense, forming the annual "Tianzhu Incense Market."

Exploring Hangzhou and Shanghai: A Journey Through Classical Elegance and Modern Splendor
Upon my first visit to Hangzhou's West Lake, I was immediately captivated by the picturesque landscape that seemed like a painting come to life. Strolling along the lake's rippling shores, I found myself surrounded by pavilions, towers, and weeping willows, as if I had stepped into a natural garden. The serene and elegant reflections of the pavilions on the lake's isolated islets, along with the leisurely drifting boats, added a poetic touch to the scene.
Gazing at the Leifeng Pagoda at sunset or climbing to its top are both excellent choices. From the tower, the panoramic view of West Lake unfolds like a natural ink painting, breathtakingly beautiful and enough to take one's breath away. At that moment, the hustle and bustle of the world seemed to fade away, purifying and baptizing the soul. This place, akin to a fairyland on earth, is captivating enough to make one forget to return.
Away from the bustle of West Lake, I sought the tranquility and solace of the soul at Faxi Temple. The temple's ancient architecture, the swirling incense smoke, and the devout Buddhists all contributed to a solemn and peaceful atmosphere. Here, it felt as if time had reversed, and all worldly distractions were left behind.
This trip to Hangzhou allowed me to appreciate the beauty of classical Chinese gardens and experience the sacred depth of Buddhist culture. This blend of nature and culture in travel is truly unforgettable.
Leaving the beautiful landscapes of Hangzhou, I embarked on a journey to Shanghai. Jing'an Temple, one of the most representative temples in Shanghai, boasts a long history and profound religious culture, with its antique architectural style highlighting the unique charm of traditional Chinese buildings. This resplendent temple is an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts, with every corner offering a perfect angle for photos.
The night view of Shanghai's Bund is one of the city's most iconic historical scenic areas. As night falls, it becomes the brightest jewel of the city. The European-style buildings of the Bund shine brilliantly in the night lights. These buildings, remnants of the early last century, exude a strong exotic charm, making the Bund crowded every night.

The Faxi Temple in Hangzhou is really photogenic!
Many people choose the Lingyin Temple as their first stop when visiting Hangzhou, but the nearby Faxi Temple is even more picturesque, with fewer people and more spots to take great photos. Lingyin Temple is too crowded; no matter how you take pictures, there are always people in the frame. The platforms and yellow walls of Faxi Temple are very photogenic.
The main spots to check in
The popular platform, where you can queue up to take photos, is not very crowded.
Around the main hall, there are yellow walls everywhere, and you can take pictures against any of them.
The second spot is the platform next to the restaurant on the right side of the entrance, which is less crowded and great for taking photos.
The stairs leading up to the front hall on both sides are also very photogenic, with a telephoto lens creating a nice compressed perspective.
Various beautiful doors and stairs inside the temple can be used as frames for composing your photos.
The golden wall at the entrance is also a great photo spot, but it's usually crowded, so if you want to take a solo picture, you need to be patient.
The ticket for Faxi Temple is only 10 yuan, and it's not very crowded. It's just over half an hour's walk from Lingyin Temple, or you can take a tour bus directly, which is very convenient!

Faxi Temple | A single sentence awakens so many people
Young people, between working and advancing, of course choose to offer incense!
Hangzhou's two most famous temples → Lingyin Temple (career/almighty) Faxi Temple (peace/marriage) The two temples are very close to each other, and you can visit them together. If you're just taking pictures and strolling around, Faxi Temple is even more recommended. Compared to Hangzhou's Lingyin Temple, it doesn't have a large flow of people, but it's very popular with young people nowadays. It's said that most people who come to Faxi Temple are seeking marriage blessings. The temple architecture is very distinctive, with yellow walls and green tiles. Faxi Temple became popular for photo check-ins, with many internet-famous spots that really make it easy to take great pictures.
'Do not seek externally'—how many people have been awakened by these four words? 'Do not seek externally' certainly means not to seek external ways, but more importantly, it means to 'seek' within one's own heart, to wish to do all good deeds, to wish to eliminate all evil, to strive to improve one's cultivation, and to accumulate one's own blessings.
Copywriting share: Sincerity brings spirituality. A prayerful wish will come true.
-At Faxi Temple on Mount Tianzhu, Amitabha Buddha, well done, well done! May all go smoothly without mishap, and may all wishes be fulfilled. -A pure land, three sticks of incense. -Do not seek externally, but seek from the heart. -Do not seek externally, happiness is in Faxi. -May the gods favor you, and may all be joyful. In the early morning, enter the ancient temple, as the first rays of sun shine upon the tall forest.
-Between working and advancing, chose to offer incense. A thousand scenes are like illusions, stepping into the monastery to worship with incense. -Seeking the divine in the mountains and tea seas, amidst the ups and downs of the world, one desires the joy of Faxi.
-Green water and green mountains in search of ancient temples, morning bells and evening drums ferry the mortal heart.
-When you can't rely on yourself anymore, you can only rely on the blessings of the heavens! -Yellow walls and grey tiles, red silk prayers, all are the silent heart of the empty mountain.
-I asked the Bodhisattva why we met, the Bodhisattva said it was fate, it was destined. I asked the Buddha if we were fated, the Buddha said we were not, I asked for fate, the Buddha said it costs money.
-I light high incense to honor the gods, to quell the unrest in my heart, before the gods there's no lack of three sticks of incense, in life there's more than a myriad of sorrows, I wish to express the autumn wind's parting sentiment, to scatter the unrest in my heart.
Ticket price: Buy on-site for 10r and get three sticks of incense
Time: 6:00-18:00
Transportation: Take the bus → Mount Tianzhu·Faxi Temple
Warm tips:
Photography: No photography inside the hall and of the Buddha statues!
Dress: New Chinese style/Cheongsam/Hanfu/plain colors are more photogenic
Don't dress too revealingly (short skirts, shorts, tank tops), if you do, you'll need to wear an apron!
Etiquette: Do not step on the threshold, do not make noise inside the temple!
Companions: Faxi Temple only supports rightful relationships, couples who go might break up. Mosquito prevention: Faxi Temple has lush vegetation, be sure to bring mosquito spray or floral water, otherwise, you'll end up like me, with several bites!
Weather: Although there are forests for shade, it's still very hot and sunny, and it might rain, so it's best to bring an umbrella according to the weather.

The Temple of Joyful Dharma is one of the three temples on Mount Tianzhu
The three temples on Mount Tianzhu in Hangzhou are famous and collectively known as the Upper Tianzhu Temple of Joyful Dharma, the Middle Tianzhu Temple of Pure Dharma, and the Lower Tianzhu Temple of Dharma Mirror (also known as the Upper, Middle, and Lower Tianzhu Temples), all of which are ancient temples of Hangzhou. The three Tianzhu temples have a close history, adjacent locations, similar teachings, and shared fortunes and declines, historically acclaimed as the 'Buddhist Kingdom of Tianzhu'. The Lingyin Temple and the various peaks of Tianzhu are collectively called 'Wulin Mountain'. According to the 'Geography Records' of the 'Book of Han': 'There is Wulin Mountain in Qiantang, where the Wulin water originates.' The 'Ling Mountain Records' states: 'During the Song Dynasty, the land was designated, with the south of Feilai Peak as Tianzhu and the north of Feilai Peak as Lingyin. Since the northern foothill was the Lingjiu Temple, the peak was named differently.'
The construction of the temples in Hangzhou that spread Buddhism is all related to the Indian monk Hui Li. The 'Mount Tianzhu Records' states: 'At the beginning of the Xianhe period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Hui Li came to Lingyin to establish his staff, and upon ascending Wulin Mountain, he exclaimed: 'This is but a small ridge of the spiritual vulture mountain of the central Tianzhu country, in what year did it fly here?' Hence, the mountain was named 'Tianzhu', and the peak was called 'Feilai'; later generations called the temples built on the south of the peak 'Tianzhu Temples', divided into Upper, Middle, and Lower Tianzhu, with Hui Li becoming the founding patriarch of Lingyin and Tianzhu. The Lower Tianzhu was founded the earliest, with more than 1660 years of history, and even the latest founded Upper Tianzhu Temple has a history of a thousand years. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong named the Upper, Middle, and Lower Tianzhu as 'Temple of Joyful Dharma', 'Temple of Pure Dharma', and 'Temple of Dharma Mirror', and personally inscribed the temple plaques. From Upper Tianzhu, one can go east to Longjing, south to Langdang Ridge, connect to Wuyun Mountain on the left, and reach Meijiawu at the bottom.
The Upper Tianzhu Temple of Joyful Dharma was built in the fourth year of Tianfu of the Later Jin Dynasty (939), where the monk Dao Yi built a hut under Baiyun Peak, becoming the founding patriarch of Upper Tianzhu. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong bestowed the name 'Temple of Joyful Dharma'. It was rebuilt in the twenty-fourth year of Guangxu (1898). Two major renovations took place in 1985 and 1991. Now the temple is the largest among the three Tianzhu temples. Renovation and restoration began in 2006. The architecture is majestic and the layout is solemn. In addition to the main hall, the temple has the Suyi Pavilion, Night Lecture Hall, Baiyun Hall, Liangfeng Hall, Xuepo Pavilion, etc. Around the temple are scenic spots such as Baiyun Peak, Baiyun Spring, Rudou Peak, and Rudou Spring. Baiyun Peak's Baiyun tea was once a famous West Lake tea tribute during the Southern Song Dynasty. During the Yuan You period of the Song Dynasty, Su Dongpo served as the prefect of Hangzhou and visited several times, leaving behind poems such as 'Rainy Visit to Tianzhu Linggan Guanyin Temple'. Song Dynasty figures like Zhu Xi, Lu Zuqian, Dai Fugu, Yuan Dynasty figures like Zhao Mengfu, Ni Zan, and others all have poems about their visits to Upper Tianzhu. The poem 'Returning to the Court and Passing by Upper Tianzhu Temple' by the Song Dynasty hero Yue Fei, who fought against the Jin Dynasty, is particularly inspiring and magnificent. The temple now has a main hall and auxiliary rooms such as dining halls and guest halls, a large copper bell weighing 5.5 tons, and the rebuilt Hall of Heavenly Kings and rear hall.
In front of the Wuguan Hall of the Temple of Joyful Dharma, there is an ancient magnolia tree from the Ming Dynasty, which is 500 years old. The average canopy spread of the old tree is 7.5 meters, with a height of 12 meters and a chest circumference of 280 centimeters. The trunk is thick and covered with moss, and the canopy is wide, covering the entire courtyard. The flowering period of the ancient magnolia is quite short, blooming in early March each year, normally lasting about 7 to 10 days, but if it rains, the period is even shorter, about 3 to 5 days. I regretfully missed the flowering period when I visited. Walking to the higher parts of the temple, I saw many girls taking photos, with professional photographers taking pictures for them, and it is said that this place is a popular photo spot. I casually took a few photos overlooking the temple buildings embraced by the mountains, and indeed, the view was beautiful. Bus 103 can be taken to get close to the three Tianzhu temples, which is very convenient.
