"Visiting the Sabah Museum"
"Visiting the Sabah Museum"
In Sabah, Malaysia, the Sabah Museum is a unique place to visit.
Before going, I learned about the ticket prices. Malaysians only need to pay 2 RM, while foreigners like us need to pay 15 RM, and only cash is accepted. After visiting, I felt that it was only worth 2 RM. I heard that it is privately operated, so I can understand the reason.
The museum has only two floors and is not very large. It can be easily visited in less than an hour. However, there is also an Ethnobotanical Garden outside the museum. If you have enough time, you can visit it to experience the unique ethnic customs. But be careful, there is a lot of greenery and mosquitoes, so be sure to take mosquito repellent measures.
Here are some tips to share with you. After checking the tickets, you can ask the ticket inspector for a Chinese guide, which will make the visit clearer. There are a few lockers on the basement floor where you can store your bags for free, but the way to store your bags is a bit primitive. The keys are directly inserted into the lockers, and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There were not many tourists on the day I went, so there were many empty lockers available.
Although the Sabah Museum does not have a particularly grand atmosphere, it is a small window to get a preliminary understanding of the local culture of Sabah. Here, you can see some exhibits with local characteristics and feel the stories of this land. If you are traveling to Sabah and have time, you might as well come here for a visit. You might also find a little surprise of your own.

"Exploring the Sabah Museum in Kota Kinabalu"
In Kota Kinabalu, there is a hidden gem where you can deeply appreciate the charm of Sabah - the Sabah Museum.
Stepping into the Sabah Museum is like embarking on a magical journey through time and space. As the state museum of Sabah, Malaysia, it houses a vast collection of treasures related to Sabah. From detailed historical records to rich cultural displays, exquisite handicrafts, and lifelike animal specimens, a stroll through the museum provides a comprehensive and clear understanding of Sabah.
What fascinates me the most is the introduction to the local ethnic tribes of Sabah. The unique beliefs, colorful traditional costumes, and distinctive customs of different tribes are all presented here, making it an interesting experience that immerses you in the diverse cultural atmosphere.
Outside the main building, there is even more to explore. The captivating performances by local folk artists offer a glimpse into the rich local culture. The train models and industrial tools from the colonial period of Sabah add a unique historical depth, creating a perfect blend of styles that is worth spending half a day to savor and explore.
Walking out from the terrace behind the train models, you can catch a distant view of the iconic dome and minaret of the Sabah State Mosque. If you have a telephoto camera, don't miss this perfect photo spot.
Oh, and there's also the Sabah Art Gallery nearby. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to visit it last time, but if you're interested in history and culture, make sure to check out both places. I'm sure you'll have a fulfilling experience. Come to the Sabah Museum and embark on this unique cultural exploration journey!

Sabah State Museum (Muzium Sabah)
#kotakinabalutrip
One of the most fun museums I’ve been to. Entering through an interactive arts, crafts, and games section I was immediately impressed by the toys and brain teasers they had. An impressive collection of artefacts, instruments, and taxidermies of flora and fauna await inside.
Featuring many Interesting individual artifacts, it is well worth a visit. Not the kind of museum that creates a narrative, nor does it have much breadth, but there's plenty to engage visitors. The outdoor "village” of traditional homes is also worth visiting, though more interpretive information would be welcome.

Ok to visit if you have time to explore KK. Admission fee is only RM2 for Malaysian and free for elderly. Not as many things as the big museum we went in Sarawak, but for RM2, still quite worth it. The skeleton of the whale is really huge, right at the center of the entrance. There’s a pathway to see some traditional houses of locals, seems not many people know so it’s not crowded. Quite a nice short walk for us.

Spectacular of Historical of Borneo in Sabah State Museum
Sabah's main museum offers a concise (preliminary in many ways) overview of local history, culture and tradition. The compact exhibition shows a bit of everything from flora and fauna to different tribes in Borneo. The heritage village next to the main building showcases dwellings of different styles in Sabah.
The museum displays some historic findings in Borneo peninsula and resembles all historic eras passed by Sabah. Quite and well organized place. Gift shop has good options for souvenirs' collectors.

This museum is bigger than I thought- separated into the indoor and outdoor portion. Indoor is filled with information while outdoor is a wide space where u can take a scroll walk around. For Malaysians, you only pay RM2 for the entrance fee which is value for money to learn about something new. I would say this place can better present its information. It actually has a lot of valuable information and history however it isn't the most intuitive in terms of its display, losing some of the youngsters' attention. Overall it is still a decent place for you to spend some time here if you have additional time in KK.
