The Steamed Toddy Palm Cake is an absolute delight that captures the essence of traditional Khmer desserts! I had the pleasure of discovering this gem along route 810 near Pre Rup temple, and it was a truly memorable experience. The cake's texture was soft and fluffy, with a hint of natural sweetness that perfectly balanced the flavors.
What stood out most was the unique flavor of toddy palm, which gave the dessert a distinct and delightful taste. It's evident that the cake is made with great care and passion, preserving the essence of Khmer culinary heritage.
The location near the Pre Rup temple added to the charm, as I enjoyed the treat amidst the ancient surroundings. If you're visiting the area, don't miss the opportunity to indulge in this delectable Khmer dessert – it's a culinary journey you won't want to miss!

Hindu Temple ruins with panoramic views
#bucketlistreboot
Pre Rup was the state temple of King Rajendravarman II built in the year 961 dedicated it to Hindu God Shiva. It located just south of the large east baray and the East Mebon. It was around 10 kilometers 15 minutes drive from the ticket pass office.
It is a three tiered pyramid, on the second level are 12 small sanctuaries grouped around the structure that each used to contain a linga. In the centre of each side of the pyramid leading to the platform with five towers that is guarded bystone lion statue.
Most of the visitors come during sunrise or sunset due to reddish tint to the structures, when the lights catch the stonework.

The Smile of Khmer (X)
Ta Prohm always has a flirtatious and ambiguous relationship with Tomb Raider, in fact, when watching the movie, Jolie's sexy lips and her agile body made me forget that it was once a distant scenery. The midday sun grows increasingly intense, following the collapsed walls, the towering gate seems to have undergone a heart bypass surgery, dense steel pipes support the tower within, eager to fall, while the four-faced Buddha still smiles mysteriously from above, watching these huge banyan roots penetrate through the walls, corridors, rooftops, and window lattices, squeezing and twisting these once glorious buildings, there's always a peculiar feeling at the bottom of my heart, like magma bursting forth and solidifying in an instant, like demonic claws emerging from underground, making you watch its slow, suffocating oppression with a helpless, waiting posture... In that dark scripture hall, looking at the dazzling sunlight outside, imagining spending a night here alone...
I don't know how Miss Tong knew about the smiling nymph Apsara amidst the tangled roots, so we sweated profusely through countless corridors and rooms, turning back and forth as if searching for an unknown treasure, finally, with Miss Tong's cheer, that small smiling face appeared in the dark surrounded by green leaves, the twisted and entwined roots could not bear to cover her brilliance, I sat exhausted on the collapsed stone pile
Not far to the east is the Royal Bath, the stone-built platform is uneven, two giant stone lions still calmly watch over this huge bathtub, through sunrise and sunset, dynasties change, from once a sea of wine and meat to a field of mulberry bushes
I waited by the pool, ready to watch the dark-skinned children play in the water, the sun shone directly on my head without any cover, those kids seemed to know my intention, playing and teasing on the shore, refusing to enter the water, finally, I was defeated by the sun and my patience
At noon, we passed by the small Cardamom Temple (Prasat Kravan), she sat quietly like a little girl, with her back to a winding path in the woods, turning to her front, a series of exquisite brick carvings were displayed, the sunlight slanted down from the top of the tower, the undulating bodies were clearly defined by light and shadow, although most were somewhat weathered, they appeared even more delicate
In the evening, we set out again, the heat was gradually fading, the wind passing through the rainforest brought the deep scent of wood, along the way, half-collapsed walls were occasionally seen in the woods, how many ancient relics hidden in this dense forest have yet to be discovered? At Bayon Temple, from the bustling crowd, I sat until nightfall

The Smile of Angkor (Part Five)
The best meal I feel in Siem Reap is breakfast, served buffet style, with soy milk + sugar + bread + jam + coffee. In short, a sweet breakfast is what I love. Stepping out, the green trees, blooming flowers, and colorful houses put you in a very pleasant mood.
After a few days of wandering around, I've gotten a sense of direction in this small town. The guy who usually drives us around had to take someone to Banteay Srei today, and I met his son Nina for the first time, a simple and honest young man just like him. The first tip for riding a tuk-tuk is to prepare a magic scarf, as the dusty roads in the countryside will give you a mouthful of dust, which could save you from having lunch if you wish.
Twenty minutes later, we arrived at Pre Rup temple, surrounded by a red wall, with three tiers of platforms and brick towers on all sides. The towers are quite empty inside, with small holes on top, said to be used for royal cremation. The ground level has square stone pillars, which I guess were corridors in the past. Inside a secluded stupa, besides a tilted carved base, stands a Buddha statue with only two feet remaining in the darkness. The stone doors of the brick towers on the second tier are intricately carved, and the tower bodies are made of red bricks, with tall stone lions guarding the ground. In the center of the third tier is a tall brick tower, with many deity statues embedded in the walls. From the three-tiered platform, you can look around and see a vast forest in the distance.
Days later, I was tempted once again by the beauty of the sunset. The stairs from the bottom to the third tier are made of red clay, long and rectangular, and such a steep angle is a real climb for young girls.

"Stairway to Heaven" - Bapuon Temple and East Mebon Temple
Just like the construction of East Mebon Temple and Bapuon Temple, the architectural styles of these two temples are very similar, both are a three-level platform with five brick towers built on it. Both have used the three major building materials of Khmer: brick, rock, and red soil. Therefore, East Mebon Temple and Bapuon Temple both have a special feature, that is, they are rare red brick buildings in Angkor architecture, so the entire temple presents a brick red color. Most of the other buildings in Angkor are monotonous stone buildings, all presenting a heavy black color given by history. East Mebon Temple is the altar for the king to worship the ancestors, and Bapuon Temple is the place where the ancient royal family performed the cremation ceremony "transforming into a god", so it is also called the transformation tower.

Pre Rup Temple 🇰🇭
#2024wish
During my recent journey, I embarked on a captivating expedition to explore the Pre Rup Temple nestled in the enchanting Siem Reap Province. This remarkable destination boasts a breathtaking panorama and stands as a testament to the ancient heritage of Cambodia. The moment I set my eyes upon this awe-inspiring temple, a surge of exhilaration coursed through me, knowing that I was about to witness the magnificent artistry and architectural marvels that lay within its sacred walls.
The name Pre Rup translates to "turn the body" in English, and it is believed that funerals were held at this site. Some even speculate that the entire temple served as an ancient crematorium, where the body would be rotated during traditional funeral ceremonies.
Pre Rup is situated south of the East Baray and directly south of the East Mebon temple, which is located on an island in the middle of the baray. Both temples were constructed by King Rajendravarman. Additionally, Pre Rup is a few kilometers east of Srah Srang.
Pre Rup is often included in the Angkor Wat Grand Circuit Tour. If you have the time, you may be able to make a small detour from the small circuit tour, but it is not always included, so it is advisable to consult with your driver or guide.
If you are exploring the temples independently, you may want to consider a "mini tour" that includes Ta Prohm, Kutisvara, Banteay Kdei, Srah Srang, Pre Rup, and East Mebon.
If you're looking to make your travels more meaningful and create memorable experiences, Cambodia is the place to visit. I already have plans to return to this remarkable destination in 2024. ##localguides #historicallandmarks #mytravelhacks #familytrip #preruptemple #ancienttemples

Pre Rup Temple
Don’t miss:
- The elegant square laterite pavilion topped by a dome-shaped roof.
- The so-called cistern or urn.
- An unusual four-armed, four-headed devata on the East site of the southwest tower.
Nestled amidst the enchanting landscape of Angkor, Cambodia, Pre Rup stands as a magnificent testament to ancient Khmer architecture and spirituality. This Hindu temple served as the esteemed state temple during the reign of Khmer king Rajendravarman, and its rich history is as captivating as its striking reddish hues, accentuated by the gentle caresses of morning and evening sunlight.
The name “Pre Rup” carries a modern interpretation, signifying “turn the body.” This nomenclature mirrors the prevalent Cambodian belief that the temple played a pivotal role in funeral rituals. It was here that mourners ritually rotated the ashes of the departed in various directions during the funeral service.
Architecturally, Pre Rup bears a strong resemblance to the earlier East Mebon temple, with a notable distinction being the absence of the stepped pyramid found in Pre Rup. The temple’s structure, crafted from laterite and brick, symbolizes the sacred Mount Meru, a mountain of great significance in Hindu mythology, said to be at the center of the universe.
One of Pre Rup’s most striking features is its trio of imposing towers flanking the Eastern entrance, the primary gateway to the temple. Interestingly, the first tower on the right side of the entrance is conspicuously absent, though its base remains. Historians speculate that this tower was either never constructed or was dismantled, its stones repurposed elsewhere, likely during the reign of the subsequent King, Jayavarman V.
Today, Pre Rup remains a cherished destination for visitors exploring the Angkor Wat Grand Circuit Tour. While it may not always be part of the standard small circuit tour, travelers with a penchant for history and architectural wonders can occasionally arrange a detour with their guide or driver.

The magical temple is located in the eastern part of Angkor Thom, a pyramid-like temple with a mysterious color. This legendary temple used to be a huge crematorium. Today, it has remained relatively intact and stands in the remains of Angkor.
In ancient times, after the cremation of the emperors body, it was turned into a god, so this huge tower was called the transformation tower. In ancient times, the tower meant that the kings body was connected to the celestial body.
Today, this pyramid-like building is popular with many visitors because of its unique shape and condescending terrain. From the Angkor Wangcheng, all the way to the pleasant forest road to come here, take the TUKTUK car only a few minutes away, very convenient.
The whole temple is surrounded by the city walls, and the tall tower is good for the center. Entering from the gate of the tower, you can reach the top of the tower by climbing a rather steep stone step. As we continue to climb, the horizons become wider, and the vast landscapes in the distance are all in front of us. At the top of the tower, there is a small temple. Today, there are several colorful Buddha statues. The sun shines on the Buddha statue through the skylight of the stone temple, showing a particularly magical scene.
There are many statues in the whole temple, which are still clearly visible. These statues, which represent different functions, are realistic and lifelike, waiting for this extraordinary ancient tower. If you have plenty of time, you can choose an afternoon to sit still and watch the fascinating sunset.

Pre Rup, also known as the Transfiguration Tower, is the great building that Grenada has left for us. The great monarch built the Temple of the Grain and the Banteay Srei in his later years. Just as the Queen's Palace does not live for the Queen or the Scorpion, the Transforming Tower is not a place where it can be transformed into a panoramic god, but the main temple built by Grenada. However, since Gengdra was not built in 961, he was built in 968, and he died in 968, so the monarch himself did not see the completion of the tower.
