Ninna-ji Temple: The Imperial Residence of Omuro

Ninna-ji Temple, established in 888, is the head temple of the Omuro school of the Shingon sect. After flourishing during the Kamakura period, most of it was destroyed in the Onin War, but it was rebuilt in 1634 with the support of Tokugawa Shogun Iemitsu. The temple grounds feature historical buildings from the Edo period, such as the five-story pagoda and the Nio Gate. Since its founding, the temple has housed many treasures, including the principal image of the Amida Triad, Buddhist paintings, and crafts. The entire area is designated as a national historic site known as the 'Former Site of Ninna-ji Imperial Residence,' and the late-blooming Omuro cherry blossoms are designated as a national scenic beauty. Access Kyoto City, Ukyo Ward, Omuro Ouchi (immediately after getting off at 'Omuro Ninna-ji' bus stop or a 5-minute walk from 'Omuro Station' on the Keifuku Kitano Line).

Established in 886, this revered site, also known as Omuro Imperial Palace, stands as a testament to Japan's spiritual heritage. Its graceful 5-story pagoda and meticulously curated gardens cast a serene ambiance, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in tranquility. As I wandered through the temple grounds, each step felt like a journey through time, surrounded by the echoes of ancient rituals and profound wisdom. The intricate architecture and lush landscapes whispered tales of emperors and monks, leaving an indelible mark on my soul. Ninna-ji Temple remains not just a World Heritage Site, but a sacred sanctuary preserving Japan's cultural essence for generations to come.

Another significant Buddhist temple in Kyoto is Ninna-ji. It is located in Ukyō-ku. The best part of the tour for me was really the peace and quite. There's not much crowd in this attraction, unlike the other temples of Kyoto where countless people go. So, I loved it here. I was able to really take in the view. Also, it is the head temple of the Omuro School of the Shingon Sect of Busdhist, so there are a lot of Buddhism students around. Great experience! Entrance fee is ¥500! #wintergetaway
