One of most three beautiful bay in 🇯🇵!!
Welcome to Miyagi!! Miyagi is one of unforgettable beautiful place in Japan . Delicious and fresh local food , beautiful costal towns and less tourists make it for me to choose Miyagi to be one of my destinations in Japan . I base in Sendai for those small town day trips to explore the sites .
Today , I made it happened to visit Matsushima. Just 40 mins JR train ride from Sendai .
As usual, I am the early riser,I reach to Matsushima station before the first sightseeing cruise , get ticket near the train station -1000¥ ( ps: if you buy in ferry terminal- 1500¥) . And walk about 7 mins to ferry terminal and start off my day .
Matsushima bay is famous along with Miyajima and Amanohashidate. The bay is dotted by over 200 small islands covered by pine trees..
And also one of the most famous oyster farm ( oysters here are very fresh and cheap , just 100¥ per piece , that meant 1sgd 🤭) . The 🚢 one round took 50 mins and every hourly until 4 pm and If you miss the first cruise 🚢, you will have to Q and wait like 100 plus people pie up, coz all other people come around 10 am plus 😝😝.
From there , I continue to visit some beautiful temples and fukuura island where connected with long red bridge and a good and well designated hiking trail to pavilion to enjoy the whole Matsushima Bay panoramic view . Such a beautiful place to enjoy and relax yourself.
Then came back to main island and have my lunch before continue with others places .
Along the way , I visited Zinganji Temple before walk up to the hill park called Saigyō Modoshi no Matsu Park and enjoy the whole Matsushima bay before back to Sendai . If you are the person like me to prefer landscape and beautiful scenery rather than shopping centre , I would definitely recommend Matsushima as one of your next destinations in Japan . And also can be reach from Tokyo by 2 hours ( including Shinkansen one hours plus and additional 40 mins to Matsushima. Hope you all enjoy !! See you all on the other side of the world 🌎!!

Matsushima is so calming. Went during mid Nov 2024 winter. Weather was cold & perfect. Sun was glaring hot. The view is stupendous. Imagine looking at that view when you are having your meals. Air is fresh. Views are breathtaking. Woke up at 530 to catch the sunrise at 615. Took awhile to walk out but we caught the sunrise right at the red bridge. Explore the island at the other end of the bridge & the views are worth waking up so early for!
For lunch we walked further down & visited two temples. Godaido & Zuiganji. The trees are so tall & straight. Red leaves were starting to sprout. Was a short trip but I totally enjoyed my walks there. Definitely created fond memories there. What are you waiting for? Go book already!

The fresh seafood in Matsushima
#voyagevibes
From fresh natural tuna to processed products such as dried fish, Miyagi's delicious seafood is available in a rich lineup of more than 1,500, which is attractive. There are dining seats on the second floor, and sushi and vigourous seafood rice bowls where you can taste the fresh ingredients are popular.
Access - About a 10-minute walk from Matsushima Kaigan Station on the JR Sengoku Line

Miyagi Matsushima Island Tour by Boat Part 2: Feeling the Wind and Watching Seagulls Surfing on the Deck
In the second half of the island tour, we went out on the deck to feel the wind and enjoy the breathtaking scenery✨
What was particularly impressive were the seagulls that followed behind the boat!
Riding the wind from the boat, they gracefully soared as if they were surfing, which was adorable to watch.
We could also see the popular Fukuurabashi Bridge from the boat!
To fully enjoy the island tour, don't just sit inside the boat, but step outside and feel the wind!
Experiencing Matsushima's island tour with all five senses is a special experience that will stay in your heart♪

Discover the Heart of Tohoku’s Scenic Beauty and Culture
#traveldiaries #japan #japantrip #sendai #miyagi
Miyagi Prefecture offers a unique blend of natural beauty, history, and vibrant culture, making it an exciting destination in Japan's Tohoku region. Its capital, Sendai, known as the "City of Trees," balances modern city life with a deep sense of history, thanks to landmarks like the Zuihoden Mausoleum and Sendai Castle, linked to the famed samurai Date Masamune.
What makes Miyagi truly special for me is its striking natural scenery. Matsushima Bay, with its picturesque islands and tranquil waters, is one of Japan’s Three Great Views, offering a peaceful escape from the bustle of urban life. The prefecture is also rich in hot springs, rugged coastlines, and mountains, giving outdoor enthusiasts plenty to explore.
Miyagi’s resilience following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami has also deepened my appreciation for the spirit of its people, who have rebuilt with strength and optimism. Visiting Miyagi is both a visually rewarding experience and a chance to engage with Japan's history and enduring culture.

Matsushima: A Day Trip Paradise of Islands
Just a short train ride away from Sendai lies Matsushima Bay, a captivating landscape often ranked as one of Japan's three most scenic views. Imagine a tranquil bay dotted with over 260 pine-clad islands, their shapes sculpted by wind and water over centuries. Matsushima offers a delightful escape, perfect for a day trip filled with natural beauty, cultural immersion, and a touch of history.
Cruising Through Island Jewels
The best way to experience Matsushima Bay is undoubtedly by boat. Hop on a sightseeing cruise and glide past the islands, marveling at their unique formations. Some islands, like Godaido Island, are accessible by foot, offering stunning viewpoints and a chance to explore their peaceful atmosphere.
A Step Back in Time at Zuiganji Temple
Matsushima boasts more than just breathtaking scenery. Zuiganji Temple, a designated National Treasure, is a must-see for history buffs. This Zen temple complex, dating back to the 17th century, boasts impressive architecture and serene gardens. Take a moment to wander the temple grounds and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
Beyond the Bay: Exploring Sendai
Matsushima makes a fantastic day trip from Sendai, but don't miss exploring the city itself. Sendai, known as the "City of Trees," offers a vibrant mix of modern attractions and historical sites. Visit the Sendai Castle, a reconstructed symbol of the region's rich heritage, or delve into the city's lively food scene, famous for its delicious gyutan (beef tongue) dishes.
Tips for Your Matsushima Adventure:
Getting There: Several trains run from Sendai Station to Matsushima Station, with the Senseki Line offering the most scenic route (around 40 minutes).
Planning Your Day: Decide if you want a leisurely boat cruise or a more active day exploring islands on foot.
Don't Forget: Pack comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat, especially during the summer months. Cash might be helpful for smaller shops and vendors.
Matsushima Bay awaits with its serene beauty and rich history. So, pack your sense of adventure and a camera, and get ready to discover this enchanting escape near Sendai!

Small islands with beautiful views
Matsushima Bay is one of Japan's three most scenic places (Nihon Sankei) and I have to admit that is has earned the designation. The hundreds of islands are best viewed by taking a sightseeing cruise but they can certainly be enjoyed for the shore as you walk along the peaceful town
The speed boat ride is thoroughly enjoyable. Best in summer months. Easy connectivity by train to nearby cities
Although we enjoyed the spectacular scenery of the world, it was a shame that the weather was bad

[Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture] We visited Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan!
I was finally able to visit Matsushima, one of the Three Views of Japan, famous for the haiku "Matsushima ya aa Matsushima ya Matsushima ya" by Matsuo Basho.
It's been about 20 years since I first learned about the haiku. Now I can conquer the Three Views of Japan 😁
[Business hours]
Matsushima Ferry
09:00-16:00
Zuiganji Temple
08:30-15:30
[Recommended points]
The ferry is a rather monotonous sight, so I personally prefer the view of Matsushima from the land 🤣
I recommend the oyster shop on the left as soon as you leave the station, as both the raw and grilled oysters are very juicy and delicious ☺

There are many places in Sendai that are natural and quaint. The most famous is Songdo, one of the three scenic spots in Japan. Songdo is not a separate island, but a general term for an island group of 260 large and small islands scattered in the central part of Miyagi Prefecture, along the Songdo Bay coast and Songdo Bay. On one side of the rock, red pine and black pine are interlaced, and dense vegetation covers the island and is a self-contained scene.
You can take a one-hour sea tour on the island of Matsushima, and the sea is awesome. Its very interesting. The attractions of Songdo are intensive. In addition to the natural landscape, the history of the Idas family is also very clear. The five halls are the symbol of Songdo. This wooden temple was built with the five kings. Named after the statue, it has been listed as a national key cultural relic. The temple is connected to a red edge bridge that extends to the beach.
The Ruiyan Temple in Songdo is the first place in the Tohoku region of Japan, full of deep Zen. The temple is dotted with solemn Dajialan, and its luxurious paintings and carvings of the Tang slab door and railings, partitions and niches are also very beautiful.
You can also stay in Songdo for one night. Our stay at the Songdo Spectacular Hot Spring Hotel is the largest resort hotel in the Songdo area. The rooms are divided into Japanese, Western, Japanese and Western styles. There are also Japanese-style banquet dishes, Western food and Chinese cuisine. The dishes are very rich. You can see the scenery of Songdo in the room~~

The island of Songdo is an island of Songdo. It is thought to be a Japanese style. I didnt expect that there was a rice inhabitant shrine on the island (a historic shrine can get a god level, now generally refers to Inari), seeing this bird house knows that there is a certain sense of time.
In addition to the shrine, the island itself is beautiful, whether it is a Japanese-style building or a sea view on the island, it is very good. Xiao Yan for a while, the scenery is good here.

The islands of Songdo Island can be boarded except for a few bridges. Most of them are scattered on the sea, and most of them are uninhabited islands.
Therefore, the best way to appreciate them is to watch the boat from a distance. The ticket costs only 1KD. The price is OK. Unfortunately, many trees and leaves are lost when you go. Can you look better when you are lush? Come back next time

Songdo is a popular tourist destination, and most of the time it is full of people, but waiting until dusk is another kind of scene.
Sunset, falling on the treetops, the seagulls haunt, preying on the sea, the boat returning, the tourists three pounds, began to enter the night mode. Since the friends have not moved, the Yuantongyuan and Ruiyan Temple are all wandering around, but they are still very interesting.
Everyone still likes to watch the sunset on the beach. How can I not eat some sushi? In fact, as a person who does not like mustard, eating sushi must silently pull out the mustard.

Japan, Songdo
Ruiyan Temple, known as Songdo Qinglongshan Ruiyanyuan Fuchan Temple, is the national treasure of the Songdo area. Created by Master Cixi in 1200 years ago, it is the first Zen temple in Austria. The existing building in Ruiyan Temple was built in the 17th century. It was the 17th-generation housekeeper of Idah, the famous name of Ou-Yu in the Anzu Taoshan era, and the ancestor of Sendai, the founder of the Edo period. Bodhi Temple.
Stepping into the Ruiyan Temple from the main entrance, the road will reflect the shadow of the towering trees, and the right hand side will continue to pass through a Buddhist cave, indicating the solemnity of the temple. It is said that the painting techniques embodied in the sliding doors, push windows and niches of Ruiyan Temple reproduce the natural beauty of Japan to the extreme, but unfortunately, starting from September 2009, the church, the Zhongmen, the Yuchengmen, etc. Overhaul, until now has not been completely repaired and complete, Ruiyan Temple's brilliance, more or less is still covered up.
is not so attracted to the introduction of temples that are not fluent in language. It is better to be attracted by the local customs here. The temples in different parts of Japan are not much different, but the tourists in the northeastern region are much less than the hot spots in Kyoto. There is a feeling of not rushing to go down, sometimes more important than just the knowledge harvest.
As the first temple to visit Japan, everything is new to me. Every place in the temple tries to restore the scenery at that time. Even the staff who sell tickets at the door are dressed in traditional costumes. In Ruiyan Temple, this quaint feeling is even more cherished.

Japan, Songdo
sea more than 260 islands, together constitute the Songdo landscape. In the "Ou Zhi Xi Dao", the haiku master Matsuo Basho praised Songdo as the first superb view of Fusang, which is comparable to the West Lake and Dongting. For this reason, Songdo and Amanohashidate and Yando are called three scenic spots in Japan. At the beginning of the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate, it was incorporated into folk songs and textbooks, and it became a beautiful view of the Japanese people. The
red bridge connects the mainland with the nearby island's Buddhist temple. The five lobby blends the most exquisite scenery of Songdo. At sunset, the red bridge green trees and black and white buildings complement each other. It was originally built in 807 in the Vishnu Hall built on the occasion of the Oasis expedition. The current building was built by the reconstruction of the Ida political sect.
When you walked over the red bridge, a wooden Buddhist temple appeared in front of you. In the middle of the sacred place, the Great Saints did not move, the East III, the Western Great Weide, the Southern Army, and the North Diamond Nightshade. The statue of the Five Kings is open to the public every 33 years.
Sit quietly for an afternoon with the gentlest sunshine of the entire Songdo Islands
