When we went to Cambridge, we did a trip on the river. It's called punting
We passed by this bridge and were amazed by the structure. This historical footbridge was built with all straight timbers & thoughtful engineering.
Although it appears to be an arch, it is composed entirely of straight timbers built to an unusually sophisticated engineering design, hence the name.
You can view this bridge from the end of Mill lane where you can board a Punt for a trip up the river Cams, to actually go across the bridge you will need to pay to go into Queens college.

Punting Through the Knowledge Town: Discovering Cambridge’s Charm
Cambridge, known for its world-renowned university, offers a unique and serene way to explore the town—punting along the River Cam. While punting may look similar to kayaking or rowing, it has its own distinct style and charm, and it’s a quintessential experience in this historic town.
What is Punting? Punting involves propelling a flat-bottomed boat using a long pole. As you glide along the river, you’ll pass under ancient stone bridges, alongside lush green meadows, and have stunning views of Cambridge’s iconic colleges.
Punting gives you a fresh perspective of the town. You’ll float by famous landmarks like King’s College Chapel, the Bridge of Sighs, and The Backs—a picturesque area where you can see the back facades of the most beautiful university buildings. It’s a peaceful escape from the bustling streets, and you can either take a guided tour or try your hand at punting yourself!
As you punt through Cambridge, you’re surrounded by centuries of academic history. Founded in 1209, Cambridge University has produced countless famous alumni, including Sir Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking. The town’s scholarly atmosphere is palpable, and punting provides a relaxing yet intellectually enriching way to soak in the town’s legacy.
Punting is not just a tourist activity; it’s a beloved local tradition. Students and visitors alike have enjoyed this leisurely pastime for generations. Whether you're visiting Cambridge for the first time or a local, punting on the Cam offers a magical way to experience the town’s rich history and natural beauty.

Punting in Cambridge (2)
Cambridge has many bridges, but the most famous are the Magdalene Bridge, Bridge of Sighs, Kitchen Bridge, Trinity Bridge, Garret Hostel Bridge, Clare Bridge, King's Bridge, and Mathematical Bridge. The Mathematical Bridge, which spans the River Cam at Queen's College, is the most famous. Legend has it that it was designed and built by Newton, and that not a single nail was used in its construction. It is an ancient wooden bridge. Another legend says that Newton's students once dismantled the bridge, but were unable to restore it to its original state. In the end, they had to use nails to rebuild the bridge. Of course, these are just legends. Today, the bridges of Cambridge are still standing. Although they have been weathered by the years, people have given them new meanings. However, their stories and legends continue to attract the interest of tourists.
