💖Overview of attractions
✔️Louis I Bridge: The Louis I Bridge is a steel arch bridge across the Douro River, connecting Portugal's second largest city Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Its name commemorates the then King Louis I. Its 172-meter span ranked first in the world at the time and is now one of Porto's landmark buildings.
✔️Aveiro Canal: Aveiro is known as the "Venice of Portugal", so you can't miss the beauty of the canal when you come to Aveiro. The banks of the winding canal are lined with colorful houses and Art Nouveau buildings. On the water, the Morrisiro boats with local characteristics are paddling leisurely. Time seems to slow down in the picturesque scenery.
✔️Tomar Christian Church: The Catholic church building combines Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance architectural styles. It is one of the most important historical and cultural buildings in Portugal. It was designated by UNESCO in 1983. Listed as a World Heritage Site by the World Cultural Organization.
✔️Jeronimos Monastery: The most prominent monument in Lisbon, it took 100 years to build. The monastery is a perfect combination of Gothic and Renaissance styles. It is called the "treasure" of Manueline architecture by later generations. It is the most gorgeous and majestic monastery in Portugal. The nuns of the convent invented the Portuguese egg tart.
✔️Cintra Pena Palace: Located on the top of a mountain with stunning scenery, it was formerly a monastery. It was converted into a colorful fairy tale castle during the Ferdinand II period, incorporating various elements of Romanticism, Renaissance, Manueline and Moorish styles. The essence of home. The park next to the palace is filled with exotic plants and is a treasure trove of great surprises.
☀️Driving in Portugal is like opening an old book full of stories, each page exudes a charming fragrance. The scenery along the way unfolds like a scroll, from the aroma of Porto's wine to the blue sea and sky of Benagil Beach, to the castles and churches hidden on the top of the mountains, every step is intoxicating. This is not only a visual feast, but also a spiritual baptism.

Porto | Porto is probably the most romantic city in Portugal
| Porto is probably the most romantic city in Portugal. Porto, always the 'dream city' that comes to mind, is probably the most romantic European city I've walked through. Make sure to allocate enough time for this stop on your trip to Western Portugal...
⛱️Must-visit attractions:
❶Luís I Bridge🌉: Spanning the old and new towns, be sure to take the tram🚋 and slowly enjoy the scenery passing by the window.
❷Lello Bookstore📖: The world's most beautiful bookstore, with long queues. You can check in at the Hogwarts spiral staircase, but it's a pity I didn't go inside. Instead, I bought some delicious ice cream🍨 at the door.
❸Church of the Holy Spirit: The blue and white porcelain facade is very eye-catching and photogenic
🌄Travel tips:
I personally think that citywalk, wandering without a specific purpose, is the best way. The city is not big, and it's generally enough to visit in 1-2 days.
💗Other tips:
If you're arranging a trip to both Spain and Portugal, local flights are economical. I visited Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, one day each.

Endless summer, Porto sunset train
Coming to Porto is like walking into an endless summer.
This European sunset city, every frame is like a movie.
Compared to Lisbon, I prefer the less popular here.
Porto is not big, a day tour is completely enough.
These few spots must be checked in❗️
1️⃣Sunset viewing platform
📍Miradouro da vitoria
You can take a panoramic view of the Luis I Bridge and the Douro River.
📍Miradouro da Serra do Pilar
The sunset train panorama is almost all shot here, and the nearby Hill garden can also see the sunset.
2️⃣Unique blue and white porcelain wall
📍Capela das Almas
📍Sao Bento Staion
The train station paved with blue and white porcelain.
📍Chapel of Souls
📍Igreja do Carmo
The blue and white porcelain exterior walls of these two are very exquisite.
3️⃣Casa Museu Fernando de Castro
A small museum recommended by locals, with many art collections.
4️⃣Lello Bookstore
It is said to be the place that inspired JK Rowling to write Harry Potter, and the stairs in the bookstore are very cinematic.
🥩Vaccarum
A steakhouse that I accidentally walked into next to the homestay I stayed in, it's delicious and large in portion, and the price is not expensive.

The landmark of Porto
Every visit to Porto will encounter the beautiful Luis I bridge. It is double decked so you can walk on top and at the bottom. Try both for different perspectives of the city!
The bridge is immediately recognisable as a sign of the city and is currently undergoing renovation work. On a sunny day, walk to Jardim do Morro for the sunset views, then cross back to walk alongside the harbor!

Porto stunning views 🌅
This is the most beautiful attraction in Porto. When you walk along the top of the bridge, the view of the city on the river and the trams that rush past is wonderful. It becomes really beautiful during the sunset time. What a gorgeous piece of architecture and infrastructure.

Double-deck Metal Arch Bridge
#celebratewithtrip
This iconic arching iron bridge straddles the Douro River, connecting Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia. The lower level is for cars ( under restoration), and Porto's Metro Line D on its upper level, pedestrians can walk along the bridge at both levels.
Take metro line D to Jardim do Morro station, then stroll along the upper deck of the bridge and you will rewarded with spectacular views of edifices built into the hillside cliffs that line the river.
Proceed to the lower level, either by cable car ( pay money ) or walk, the lower level currently under restoration, so nothing much to see.
Porto is known for having quite a few bridges, the Dom Luis I Bridge is especially renowned because it was designed by the students of Gustave Eiffel, the mastermind behind the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Plus at the time of its completion in 1886, this bridge was the longest arch in the world

Porto has surely gained a lot of attention over the last few years, and for good reasons: it’s vibrant, colorful, easy, not expensive at all and you can get everywhere on foot!
As soon as I stepped out of the São Bento station right before sunset I was invested by the energy of this city and started exploring every part of it, starting from the Dom Luis I bridge over the Douro river, which is definitely the first stop I suggest to have a fantastic view of Porto and its prominent Ribeira district.
What I loved the most was wandering through its steep, colorful alleys that are still incredibly authentic and mostly untouched. Put in some good, comfortable shoes then get lost in this part of the city.
At the top of the city there are some incredible churches, like Igreja do Carmo and Capela das almas: these two have some amazing facades entirely covered by tens of thousands of blue tiles called “azulejos”. You can see these azulejos across the city in other spots too, including the station as mentioned earlier of São Bento.
A 15-minute bus or train ride will get you to the beach to breath in some air from the Atlantic Ocean. You can either go to the lighthouse at Foz do Douro or head over to Senhor da Pedra’s beach, notable for its small church on the rocks!
A visit to Porto (and Portugal in general) is not complete without eating a lot of pasteis de nata as well. They sell these yummy pastries everywhere, but some places are better than others: don’t miss those at Mantegaira and Combi cafè!

Best viewpoint away from the crowds! We will never forget all the magical sunsets we've been watching from this view point in Porto.

Traveling to Portugal, walking into Porto, the second largest city, it takes only over an hour to fly from Madrid to Porto, which is very convenient.
Porto faces the Atlantic Ocean, with its country name and port wine from Porto, the old town and the surrounding wine region are world heritage sites.
Actually, the old town of Porto is very small. Most of the sights can be reached by walking. Of course, it is the Louis I Bridge, which is a steel arch bridge. It is the same designer as the Eiffel Tower. The
bridge has a total of two floors, with a car and people walking on the ground floor and trams and people walking on the upper level. Standing on the bridge and looking at Porto in the distance, I can imagine that by the time of Portugal's heyday, there are now old and run-down.
In addition to the Louis I Bridge, you can also go to the Cardo Cathedral, Pastor Tower, Lero Bookstore, Freedom Square, Douro River and many more. Standing on the bridge, watching the tram walk gently, watching the beauty of the Douro River, suddenly did not want to go back.
Hechenwen.
Porto's best location is located on the highlands on either side of the Louis I Bridge, overlooking the entire Old Town of Porto. For visitors outside Europe, Porto Porto is a low-lying place people always think of flying to the capital of Lisbon. Moreover, when I was writing this article, I struggled countless times with the Bordeaux, which was automatically associated with the input method.
This is the second largest city in Portugal. It is worth seeing in history, culture, food, and wine. Even to some extent, I feel better than Lisbon.

🇵🇹 Explore Porto on Foot
I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Porto on foot during my stay. Many of the city's key landmarks, like the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge and the majestic Porto Cathedral, are easily accessible by walking and offer stunning views of the Douro River and the surrounding hills.
A stroll along Avenida Vimara Peres is a delightful experience, full of vibrant sights and a rich sense of the city's energy.
I also passed by the Escadaria da Tv. de Cândido dos Reis several times. This charming stairway, located in Vila Nova de Gaia, is a hidden gem that winds through a narrow, picturesque street. It connects different levels of the historic port wine district, providing a unique and authentic glimpse into the area's character.

Visiting Porto was magical 🗺️
#traveldiaries
Just got back from an incredible trip to Porto, and I'm still buzzing from the experience! 🎉 The city is full of charm, with its colorful buildings, winding streets, and friendly locals. I started my visit with a walk along the Ribeira district by the Douro River – such a beautiful area with cafes and street performers. 😍 Crossing the Dom Luís I Bridge was a highlight, offering amazing views of the city and the river below.
I visited the Livraria Lello, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. The entrance fee was €5, which you can use as credit toward a book purchase – a great deal if you're a book lover! 📚 I also took a tour of one of the famous port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for around €15, which included tastings. 🍷 If you’re into history and culture, the Clérigos Tower and the Porto Cathedral are must-sees, and both offer stunning views of the city. Porto has this laid-back vibe mixed with so much to see and do; I’m already dreaming of my next visit! #trip #Porto #Portugal #Travel #CityBreak #PortWine

Porto, where scenery and time intertwine
In the gentle sea breeze of the Atlantic Ocean, the ancient city of Porto stands quietly, as if telling endless stories. Walking through the winding cobblestone streets, every stone has been washed by the years. The Douro River, like a jade belt, divides the city into two banks, reflecting the rows of red-roofed houses on the water, flowing with ancient maritime legends🗺️. Porto is not just a picturesque port but also a haven for the soul. Every corner is filled with the breath of art, music, and life. Here, time slows down, and the years quietly pass under the soft sunlight.
🧳Preparation before the trip:
✅Book your hotel in advance! Porto is a very popular tourist destination, so it's best to book your hotel in advance to avoid limited choices and high prices.
✅The temperature difference between day and night in Porto is greater than in southern Lisbon, so it is recommended to bring some jackets and long pants in case it gets cooler at night.
✅There are many slopes in Porto's urban area, so prepare comfortable shoes to make walking more comfortable.
✅The sunlight is strong at noon, so prepare sunscreen.
🚉Transportation guide:
International: Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal, so there are many international flights, such as direct flights from London, Madrid, Frankfurt, etc. If departing from within the country, you can transfer from Beijing via Istanbul or Dubai to reach Porto.
Domestic: You can take a train directly to Porto from cities like Lisbon and Coimbra; there are also flights from Lisbon to Porto.
Within the city: Porto has a metro system, and you can buy metro tickets to reach various places in the city. Most attractions in the city center are within walking distance, as they are not very far apart. If you are really tired, you can take a taxi (Bolt app), which costs less than 5 euros per ride within the city!
🗓Recommended spots:
📍Dom Luís I Bridge
This bridge was built in 1886 and was designed by an engineer who had participated in the construction of the Eiffel Tower. It features a typical iron structure and arch design. Standing on the bridge, you can overlook the Douro River and the beautiful scenery on both sides, and you can also enjoy the sunset.
📍Lello Bookstore
Lello Bookstore is one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Founded in 1906 by the Lello brothers, its unique Gothic exterior and luxurious interior decoration give people the feeling of walking into a palace of art.
📍Church of Saint Ildefonso
The most stunning feature is the church's exterior, which is covered with traditional Portuguese blue and white tiles depicting biblical scenes, offering a unique visual feast.
📍São Bento Railway Station
It is one of the most famous train stations in Portugal. The station building itself belongs to the French neoclassical style and is famous for its stunning blue and white tile murals inside.
(…and many more)
❤Travel impressions:
Porto is a city where history, culture, and nature harmoniously blend. The ancient streets, exquisite buildings, and the tranquil Douro River give this city a unique charm. Whether strolling through the historic city center or admiring the art of blue and white tiles, Porto offers a profound cultural experience.
Savoring local wines and delicacies, feeling the leisurely pace, it seems as if time slows down here. Porto is not only a visual feast but also a peaceful haven for the soul, making it hard to leave.

Porto, Portugal: A City Full of Charm, History, and Flavor
When you think of Portugal, Porto is a city that should be at the top of your travel list. Nestled along the Douro River, Porto is known for its stunning landscapes, historic architecture, and, of course, its world-famous port wine. My recent trip to Porto was nothing short of magical, and I can't wait to share my experiences and tips with fellow travelers.
**Exploring Porto's Historic Heart: Ribeira District**
Start your journey in the Ribeira District, Porto's historic heart and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walking through the narrow, cobbled streets feels like stepping into a postcard. The colorful buildings along the riverbank create a picturesque backdrop that's perfect for photos. Don't forget to stop by the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, which offers breathtaking views of the city and the Douro River.
**A Taste of Porto: Must-Try Foods**
Porto is a paradise for food lovers. One of the most famous dishes you must try is the *Francesinha*, a hearty sandwich filled with layers of meat, smothered in cheese, and topped with a rich tomato-beer sauce. It's indulgent, filling, and utterly delicious.
For something lighter, head to a local bakery and try a *Pastel de Nata*. While these custard tarts are famous throughout Portugal, Porto's bakeries add their own unique twist, making them a must-try treat.
Of course, no trip to Porto would be complete without sampling the city's namesake wine. Take a tour of the port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, just across the river from Porto. Here, you can learn about the history of port wine, how it's made, and—most importantly—enjoy a tasting session with stunning views of the city.
**Don't Miss: Livraria Lello and Clérigos Tower**
For book lovers and Harry Potter fans, Livraria Lello is a must-visit. Often cited as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, its stunning wooden interior and grand staircase will leave you in awe. Be sure to get there early to avoid the crowds!
For a panoramic view of Porto, climb the 225 steps of Clérigos Tower. The climb is steep, but the 360-degree view from the top is well worth the effort.
**Final Tips**
Porto is a city best explored on foot, so wear comfortable shoes and take your time to soak in the atmosphere. The locals are incredibly friendly, so don't hesitate to ask for recommendations—they might just lead you to a hidden gem.
Whether you're savoring the local cuisine, exploring the historic districts, or sipping port wine by the river, Porto offers an unforgettable experience that's sure to inspire your wanderlust.

St John’s Festival
St John’s Festival, June 24th, is the grandest festival in Porto. On the evening of the 23rd, which is St John’s Festival Eve, it is just like Christmas and Christmas Eve.
Before checking in, I was notified by email: try to check in before 4 PM, otherwise, after that time, the city will have traffic control. Reluctantly bidding farewell to the manor shrouded in light mist and rain, I hurried to Porto. While secretly delighted to have once again stumbled upon a grand festival, I couldn't help but worry about restaurants closing and not finding good food, just like on the Feast of Corpus Christi in Coimbra. As soon as I stepped out of São Bento train station, the festive atmosphere was palpable. Street vendors lined the streets, selling mostly various snacks, drinks, and plastic hammers. The former replenishes energy, while the latter embodies the spirit of revelry. As a 'self-defense weapon,' getting one for 3 euros was quite necessary. The festive atmosphere ignited the whole city, with explosive music coming from different directions on the streets and from upstairs. Walking on the road, if you are not careful, you might get hit on the head by a plastic hammer swung from who knows where, making the world spin.
At night, Ribeira Quay was crowded with people, either sitting on the ground or dancing to the upbeat music. Some hid in a corner, using 'long-stemmed purple flowers' and fishing techniques to gently brush the purple flowers over passersby. This 'flirting' method is quite creative. At midnight, fireworks burst into the sky on time. Initially, it didn't seem particularly surprising, but the explosive finale was like the earth shaking, refreshing the senses!
⛱️Must-visit attractions: Clerigos Tower, Avenida dos Aliados, São Bento Train Station, Misericórdia Church, Casa do Infante, Ribeira Square, Dom Luís I Bridge
🌄Travel tips: Walk to the above attractions
🏨Accommodation tips: Along the Douro River
💗Other tips: Don't miss the port wine tasting. Taylor's and Granham's wineries are good choices. What could be more pleasant than enjoying the scenery and sipping a few glasses of fine wine from Porto?
The Douro River area around Porto is also worth exploring. I will introduce it in another article next time.

Porto, Portugal at it's very finest
Porto is an absolute must-visit on your Europe travels. A Catholic city at heart, you'll find around every corner you turn a relic of its history.
What's not to miss?
- The city revolves around the Ponte Luís I Bridge which carries the main tram network at an astonishing height over the River Duoro.
- Taste the finest Port the world has to offer, very close to its source.
- Take in some history and striking views across the unblemished city from the Clérigos Church and it's tower.
- Experience the vintage tram network on a tour along the river shore.
- Take in the sights on a tour of the city, including a view of the somewhat bizarre but unique 'She Changes' - a glimpse of Porto's architectureal offering.
What to know before you go:
- Bring a good pair of walking shoes (there are lots of steps, hills and cobbles streets)
- Porto does not really have a 'centre' - many tourists flock to the Ponte Luís Bridge area and this appears to have become the natural focal point of the city
- Consider bringing beach equipment in the summer months; Porto unexpectedly has a lovely beach area
- The locals are among the friendliest around but they appreciate a small effort to learn basic greetings and phrases
Enjoy your travels in sunny Porto, you'll remember it for a lifetime 🇵🇹📷☀️#porto #portugal #Europe #travels #summer

Porto's Luis I Bridge: A Night View Like a Painting
The night view of the Luis I Bridge and the Douro River in Porto is as beautiful as a painting. As evening falls, the bridge and the entire city are wrapped in lights, shining in golden hues and reflecting on the Douro River. The view from the bridge is particularly striking. The buildings of the Ribeira area, lined along the riverbank, emit warm lights, and the cruise ships passing by, along with the twinkling lights along the river, create a fantastic scene. The restaurants and bars along the riverbank are filled with the sound of live music, and the place is lively with people enjoying wine while taking in the night view. The night scenery around the Luis I Bridge maximizes the charm of Porto and leaves a lasting impression on visitors. The night view here is considered a highlight of a trip to Porto, renowned for its beauty and romance.

Luis Bridge… Porto..
#EuropeanTravel #Portugal #Porto #LuisBridge
This is the most representative landmark of Porto.
It is an arched iron bridge built in the 19th century, called the Dom Luis I Bridge or Luis I Bridge, and it is said that it was so called because the bridge was built during the reign of Luis I.
It is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was designed by Theophile Seyrig, a German-born Belgian architect. In 1877, Theophile Seyrig, who built the Ponte Maria Pia Bridge in Porto with Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, who designed the Eiffel Tower in France, started building the Dom Luis Bridge in 1881, completed the upper deck on October 30, 1886, and held a completion ceremony the next day, and the lower deck construction was finished in 1888. After viewing the cathedral, it would be a good idea to consider a route that crosses the upper deck of the bridge, looks at the Dou River from the Moru Garden, and then crosses to the lower deck.

Oporto: the perfect couple days away
Visiting Porto was an unforgettable experience, full of charm, history, and vibrant culture. Nestled along the Douro River in northern Portugal, this city offered a unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary vibrancy that captivated me from the moment I arrived.
The first thing that struck me about Porto was its stunning architecture. The historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a maze of narrow, winding streets lined with buildings adorned in colorful azulejos—traditional Portuguese tiles. Walking through the Ribeira district felt like stepping back in time, with its medieval alleyways, ancient churches, and picturesque squares. The iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, designed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, offered breathtaking views of the city and the Douro River below. Crossing it on foot was an exhilarating experience, especially as the setting sun bathed the city in a golden glow.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the Livraria Lello, often cited as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Its neo-Gothic architecture, intricate wooden carvings, and stunning stained glass ceiling created an atmosphere that was both magical and inspiring. I could easily see why it is said to have inspired J.K. Rowling while she was writing the Harry Potter series.
The food in Porto was another unforgettable aspect of my visit. Portuguese cuisine, with its rich flavors and fresh ingredients, was a delight. I indulged in traditional dishes such as bacalhau à brás (a codfish dish) and feasted on pastéis de nata (custard tarts) at local bakeries. However, the standout meal was a hearty francesinha—a sandwich layered with various meats, covered in melted cheese, and smothered in a rich tomato and beer sauce. Pairing this with a glass of local port wine was a culinary experience I won’t soon forget.
The people of Porto were warm and welcoming, adding to the overall charm of the city. Whether I was seeking directions, recommendations, or simply a friendly chat, the locals were always happy to help, making me feel at home.
My experience in Porto was a perfect blend of cultural exploration, culinary delights, and genuine hospitality. It’s a city that invites you to slow down, soak in its beauty, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. I left Porto with a heart full of fond memories and a deep appreciation for this enchanting city.

Porto is one of the most popular city in Europe and you have to go once if you come to Europe travelling ! In my recent trip to Porto , I have stayed here for 3 days and enjoyed the scenery of the city inside. The Luis I Bridge is one of the signature signs for attractions you have to see, I went to the observation point in Porto and the name is Jardim do Motto. After that, I tried the clams for my dinner and the Pastel de nata . Pastel De nata is one of the delicious dessert you have to try in Portugal.
Come to Porto and explore more!

Dom Luis I Bridge
The famous bridge in Porto, known as the Dom Luís I Bridge, is a breathtaking architectural marvel. This iconic double-deck iron bridge spans the Douro River and offers spectacular panoramic views of the city and the picturesque waterfront. Designed by Gustave Eiffel's protege, it boasts intricate lattice work and towering stone pillars that exude a sense of grandeur. The lower level allows pedestrians and trams to traverse while the upper level is reserved for vehicles. As you stroll across, the vistas of Porto's colorful buildings, historic Ribeira district, and the river below are truly mesmerizing, making it a must-visit attraction in this enchanting Portuguese city.

Crossing the Douro River to the Louis I Bridge
Ponte de Dom Luís I (Luís I Bridge) The Luís I Bridge is a double-decker steel arch bridge completed at the end of the 19th century. At that time, it was the longest span bridge in the world. Today the record has long since been broken, but it remains a major landmark in Porto.
The ground level of the bridge is used for cars, while the upper level is used for light rail. There are also pedestrian paths on both levels. The bottom level of the bridge is really narrow, but the photos are beautiful, but you need to be quick because it will hold up the back. The bridge is a high-rise building, the wind was as strong as a No. 3 typhoon signal, and the light rail train was passing by at high speed... Halfway through, my feet were weak, so I didn't dare to take a photo. In fact, it is safe, but those who are afraid of heights beware!
