Leshan giant buddha is one of key attractions when visiting Chengdu China. There are several ways to visit the giant Buddha, i have chosen the cruise option to cater for 80 years family member. Need to have upfront tickets booking as it is hot spot n ticket might not available on the spot during good season.
History of Leshan Giant Buddha: In 713, a monk named Hai Tong decided to carve a Maitreya Buddha statue to watch over the river, a project that took 90 years, until 803, to fully complete.
Tips& Learning from my oct 2024 visit: engage tour guide to help on cruise boarding n history explanation. Toilet is limited and the one near the cruise boarding area are without doors, it is hard n unacceptable for foreigners.

A Wonderful One-Day Trip to Leshan Giant Buddha and Delicacies
"The Joy of Leshan Lies Within"
From Chengdu East Station to Leshan Station, departure at 9 AM; from Leshan Station to Chengdu East Station, return at 7 PM. The journey takes about 50 minutes, and the ticket price is 54 yuan.
City Transportation:
Taxis in Leshan are affordable, and taking a taxi can reach almost all the attractions.
One-Day Itinerary:
Leshan Station → Jiaxiang Road for Delicacies → Leshan Giant Buddha → Dongda Street for Delicacies → Hengdu Wharf → Shangzhongshun Commercial Street → Chengdu East Station (A clear route map is attached at the end)
Buddha Viewing Options:
80 yuan for a close-up view of the head, 70 yuan for a full-body view, and 0 yuan for a distant view.
For first-time visitors, it is recommended to climb the mountain for a close-up view. Take a taxi to Leshan Giant Buddha Parking Lot No. 6 or take a bus to Guicheng Mountain, and follow the signs to reach the north gate of the scenic area (this is the best choice for a short and direct route to the entrance).
It takes about 20 minutes from the north gate to the Buddha's head, where you can check in at the Buddha's head, ring the Buddha bell, and enjoy the magnificent view of the Minjiang River. From the head to the feet of the Buddha, it takes about 1-2 hours depending on the crowd during non-holidays. The entire tour takes about 2 hours.
Wuyou Temple is located at the south gate exit of the Giant Buddha. Hengdu Wharf is a niche check-in point, and the Buddha Viewing Tower is also located here.
"Food in Sichuan, Flavor in Leshan", delicacies are the highlight of the Leshan trip, with 12 kinds of delicacies tasted in one day!
Jiaxiang Road Delicacies:
Chuanmei Fancy Ice Powder - Signature Mother-in-law Ice Powder, rich in ingredients, excellent taste, very satisfying! Even packed one for the return trip.
Feng Sanniang's Beef Soup - Generous portion of beef, so delicious that you can't help but lift your feet. Blood curd is also highly recommended, super tender, and the chili aroma is overwhelming.
Ju Granny's Shaved Ice - Mango Pomelo Sago flavor, the ice is fine and dense, and the portion is generous.
Candied Haws - A street stall, made on the spot, the sugar is sweet and the strawberries are sweet, but it's a bit messy to eat.
Lei Siniang's Egg Cake - Cream and meat floss egg cake, slightly eggy, but the cream is good.
Ji Liuniang's Sweet Duck - Recommended by the driver, the taste is okay (not excluding the possibility of commission).
Dongda Street Delicacies:
Hua Sister's Chicken Feet - Sold at a small stall, both pepper and chopped chili flavors are good, but a bit spicy.
Ye Granny's Bamboo Chicken - An old shop in Leshan! The taste is superb! The red oil is fragrant but not spicy, and the price is affordable! 0.8 yuan per skewer!
Jiujiu Tofu Pudding - Salty tofu pudding, thick and dense, similar to the taste of spicy soup.
Zhao Duck's Sweet Duck - Different from Beijing roast duck, it is a shredded sweet duck, crispy skin and tender meat, sweet and delicious, very lovable.
Haihuiyuan Shaomai - Personally not a fan, but the shop is crowded.
Qian Dehua's Old Brand Glutinous Rice Cake - Soft and sweet brown sugar glutinous rice cake, really delicious!
Unfortunately, there was no time to taste the fried delicacies, but the regret leaves something to look forward to next time!
New Attractions:
Lingbao Tower: Standing on the Lingbao Peak of Lingyun Mountain in Leshan, it is one of the iconic buildings of Leshan.
Moruo Hall: Built to commemorate Guo Moruo, it showcases his life and literary achievements.
New Delicacies:
Leshan Ka Bing: Soft and glutinous pancake with rich fillings, very delicious.
Leshan Tofu Brain Flower: A wonderful combination of tofu and brain flower, spicy and fragrant.
Leshan Barbecue: Unique, with a rich aroma of grilled skewers.
I hope this guide helps you have a wonderful day in Leshan!

Eat and Play Guide|Detailed Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Playing at Leshan Giant Buddha.
😃【Introduction】: The mountain is a Buddha, and the Buddha is a mountain. Every tourist visiting Sichuan must not miss this attraction. There is a legend about the Leshan Giant Buddha. It is said that in ancient times, there was a demon in this place that often caused storms, overturning small and large boats passing by. Monk Haitong saw this and vowed to carve a giant Maitreya statue on the cliff, which is now the Leshan Giant Buddha, hoping to rely on its boundless power to 'turn violent waves into calm flows,' reduce the water's force, and forever calm the waves.
·
🕘【Opening Hours】: Open all year round; you can visit anytime.
·
💴【Ticket Prices】: Refer to the official website for the latest prices, including entrance tickets and boat tour tickets.
·
⛺【Activities】:
🔶Tour Route: North Gate - Buddha Head Square - East Gate Exit. This route allows you to visit every attraction without missing any. Although you need to climb, the exercise is not too intense, so it's manageable.
🔶【Lingyun Temple】: A temple next to Buddha Head Square, dignified and grand, full of incense. You can light a stick of incense here. At the entrance, you can get three sticks of incense, and the donation is voluntary (you can choose not to donate).
🔶【Buddha Head Square】: The first attraction after entering. As the name suggests, you can observe the Buddha's head here. You can take photos touching the Buddha's ears, eyebrows, and nose, each with different meanings (touch the head for good fortune, touch the ears for blessings, touch the nose for wealth, touch the eyebrows for happiness, touch the mouth for peace, and touch the feet for good luck).
🔶【Buddha Foot Platform】: The paths on both sides of the Buddha are under repair. You can go down the side paths, which are narrow, steep, and difficult to walk. Be careful on rainy days. There are several caves along the way that are great for photos. Once you reach the Buddha Foot Platform, you can look up at the Buddha and take beautiful photos.
·
🚌【Transportation Guide】:
🔶Public Transportation: From Chengdu, take a train from Chengdu East Station to Leshan Station. After arriving at Leshan Station, there are direct tourist buses to the Leshan Giant Buddha. From the East Station, you can also take a taxi directly to the scenic area entrance.
🔶Driving: It takes about 2.5 hours to drive from downtown Chengdu to the Leshan Giant Buddha scenic area parking lot. The entire journey is on the highway, and the road conditions in Leshan are good with no mountain roads, so you can drive with confidence.

Leshan Giant Buddha + Base 1-day tour;
Leshan Giant Buddha + Emei Mountain 2-day tour.

🔶In addition to visiting the Leshan Giant Buddha, another highlight is the local cuisine. Leshan food is not to be missed; it's famous for being delicious.
🔶Qiaojiao Beef - Feng Sanniang Qiaojiao Beef;
🔶Sweet-skinned Duck - Ji Liuniang and Zhao Duck (I personally bought from Zhao Duck, and it tastes really good, with a crispy and sweet outer skin);
🔶Xiaodou Haitang - You can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner here;
🔶Sifang Tofu - The taste is unique, sweet and sour, with three different flavors.

||This article is enough for the guide.
There are two ways to visit Leshan Giant Buddha:
Mountain climbing: Tickets are 80 yuan; 2. Boat rides: Tickets are 70 yuan. Tickets can be purchased online.
1️⃣Climbing the mountain into the scenic area to reach the Big Buddha is very close. It only takes ten minutes, so there is no need to worry about physical strength. You can see many stone carvings on the mountains on the way, and you can also visit scenic spots such as Lingyun Temple. Lingyun Temple has free incense. There is also a bell ringing next to it that you can participate in. It costs 10 yuan three times. You can also see the wonderful scene of the confluence of three rivers. After seeing the Big Buddha up close on the mountain, you can walk up the stairs to the feet of the Buddha to see the full picture of the Buddha (the stairs were under maintenance when we went there. Friends who must go down can call the scenic spot management office for consultation). In short, there is no time limit on the mountain. You can enjoy it, but the angle for taking pictures is a bit strange. When leaving, it is recommended to exit through the east gate or south gate. There are various tour guides at the door, and you can bargain. We tried our best to negotiate 60, and you can choose according to your needs.
2️⃣You can see the whole view of the Big Buddha by boat. It is relatively close to the other side of the river. When you get to the Big Buddha, the boat will stop for a while and give you time to take pictures. The photo taking effect is better, but the time is fixed.
Oriental Buddha Capital: A later-built attraction, you can get there directly from the Big Buddha. If you are interested in sculptures or related culture, you can go in and take a look. You can also take photos. The ticket is 80. I don’t recommend it.
After you come out of the scenic spot, there is a car that can take you to the entrance or the bus station. The price is 20 (it seems to be determined based on the distance), but the location is not too far. If you are tired, you can take a seat and negotiate the price. If you are strong, you can just navigate out.
Transportation: Chengdu East-Leshan Station, duration is about 45 minutes, fare is 54 yuan.
When you arrive at Leshan Station, you can queue up and take a taxi directly. It’s cheap and convenient. The whole journey costs about 25-30 yuan. It’s highly recommended! !
If you take public transportation, you can take bus K1, get off at [Guichengshan Station] and navigate to the north gate. For Didi, the pick-up point is not easy to locate, and the price is around 26.
❗Key point: Choose the taxi terminal [No. 6 Parking Lot No. 2 Door]. This is the door with the shortest walking distance, so you can save a lot of walking.
Opening hours:
Mountain climbing: 7:30-18:30 in summer (from October 8 to March 31 in winter, the time is 8:00-17:30)
Cruise: 7:30-18:00 in summer (8:00-17:00 in winter)
The last time is the latest admission time.
Tour time: about 3-4 hours.
ps:
Food in the scenic area is more expensive than outside. A 3-yuan meal outside is generally 6-8 yuan. You can bring it by yourself in advance.
Prepare toilet water in summer.
You don’t need a particularly long time to visit Leshan Giant Buddha, and various snack streets can be arranged later.

Leshan + GIANT BUDDHA + 71 meters tall!
Wonderful experience in Sichuan. You can take the high-speed train or drive to the location from Chengdu. Be sure to not go on a holiday! There are two parts of the park. The Giant Buddha and the Oriental Buddha Park, and you need to purchase tickets for each. It’s worth going to the 2nd park to see the Pharmacist Buddha, 10,000 Buddhas Cave, and the Lying Down Buddha! Be ready for some stairs, some long lines, and sunshine on days with good weather. I heard the boat tour also has a wonderful view!#LeshanGiantBuddha #Leshan #Sichuan #giantbuddha #awesomepic

Best option is to get a hotel nearby if it's not a daily trip. We had lucky to be in one small hotel with personal valley service. Parking is convenient and cheap on spot. Go in the afternoon just before sunset. Once you buy tickets, pass gate and 20-30mins of climbing. During summer with hot weather and humidity isn't so fun. Cicadas doesn't make it any easier. Also, some of places inside were closed like Cave-Thomb-Museum and food vendors. Carving this amazing statue is really mesmerizing. Plenty of time to do some selfies. Make sure you bring water and snacks. Left side was closed, but looked interesting with some small openings in rocks. Have fun.

giant Buddha in leshan
The Leshan Giant Buddha is a statue of Maitreya (a Bodhisattva usually represented as a very stout monk with a broad smile on his face and with his naked breast and paunch exposed to view) in sitting posture. The Buddha is located to the east of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, at the confluence of three rivers, namely, Min River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River. The statue makes itself the most renowned scenic spot in that city. In December, 1996, the location of the Buddha was included by UNESCO on the list of the World Heritage sites. Begun in the year 713 in the Tang Dynasty, and finished in the year 803, the statue took people more than 90 years to carve. During these years, thousands of workers had expended their efforts and wisdom on the project. As the biggest carved stone Buddha in the world, the Giant Buddha is featured in poetry, song and story.

Giant Buddha near Chengdu - Must Visit
#createwithtrip to Chengdu must include a day to visit the Giant Buddha at Leshan.
The Buddha is a 71m tall stone statue, built during the 8th Century (Tang Dynasty), facing Mount Emei, with the min River and Dadu River flowing below its feet. It is the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world.
To get there, best to hire a car for a day. Prepare for a large crowd as it is a very popular tourist site. Queue system is in place and normal wait time to get to the top of the statue is 60-120 mins wait. Follow the crowd, to work your way from the top of the statue and eventually get to the feet of the statue.

Giant Buddha experience
Taking the train from Chengdu to Le’Shan was incredibly easy and quick. The trains run quite regularly as well so it’s super easy to quickly reach the area. From Le’Shan station to the Giant Buddha area, I took a taxi directly from outside the station. It took around 20 minutes to drive there and cost about 30RMB. The entrance to the Giant Buddha is easy to find and you can walk along an old style road and you can reach the boat area.
For me, I chose to take the boat around the Buddha instead, this cost 120RMB and the trip as a whole on the boat lasted around 40 minutes.
The boat rides past the Buddha before turning to take a return trip, it then sits for 15 minutes or so for photos and to study the statue.

Leshan Giant Buddha + Oriental Buddha Capital
Leshan Giant Buddha's the biggest outdoor Buddha statue in the world and also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Getting there from Chengdu is extremely easy by the high speed train. I recommend you to both get the cruise and explore the monument on foot. It will cost you about 200 yuan total.
Also many people go there for couple of hours to only see the monument of the but not that many people know that there's another cave temple close to the Buddha statue.
It's called the Oriental Buddha Capital. Even though it's not that ancient and full of history i think it still deserves attention because of the statues inside

Leshan Giant Buddha: Chengdu Day Trip
If you've watched the animated movie 'Abominable' then you've seen this exact location on screen before. The depiction in the film is great but it's truly breathtaking in person. This giant Buddha was carved into the side of the mountain as a sign of the people's devotion to Buddha. This has been an important site for Chinese royalty and citizens alike since before the Tang dynasty.
The best way to get there is by bus or high speed train. I personally chose to take the train from Chengdu East station to Leshan station then hail a taxi which costs about 80RMB total each way. (50 for the train and 20-30 for the taxi).
Once you arrive at the ticket booth you pay 80RMB for the mointain entrance and you can also see the Buddha statue from the river via ferry for an extra charge. To get from the ticket booth to the actual mountain is a about a kilometer and a half walk or you can pay 20RMB for a cart to take you. If you're already tired or have a long trip ahead of you, pay for the cart because you'll climb lots of stairs inside the mountain. Otherwise, just walk there because the view is beautiful on the way too. Trees, the river, and lots of cool places to eat, drink tea, or get a massage.
The Giant Buddha area has caves to explore, temples to visit, and pagodas besides the actual Buddha. It's a wonderful experience but do wear comfortable shoes and come ready for a workout because it's a lot of walking to see everything!
The experience is lovely and I would highly recommend this trip especially if you're visiting Chengdu.

Leshan Giant Buddha
The Giant Buddha is located within Leshan County in Sichuan Province.
🚄 Easlly accessible from Chengdu and Emeishan. We took the high speed rail from Emeishan railway station.
🏞️The Giant Buddha is a magnificent attraction. We arrived early on a weekday. Entrance was 80RMB pp. Not too many people and its cooler to do the hike up to the top in the morning. There is also another Oriental Buddha park within the area. It costs another 80RMB to enter but has such spectacular sculptures and is definitely worth the visit. You can spend hours walking within the grounds admiring the different attractions. We spent about a half day within the two sites.
Highly recommend this attraction.

This place can get really crowded so we would recommend to go early in the morning as there were very few people (despite Golden Week). As the road to North Gate was blocked we parked our car closeby the South Entrance. However, we ended up entering the East Gate of Oriental Buddha park which is another park. So double check the name of the park before you enter. Below is a picture of the South Entrance of the Leshan Giant Buddha park.
Bring good shoes here and bring water for a hot day. It is a fairly easy hike made slower by the crowds. A good side attraction that we would recommend that is in the same area is the Oriental Buddha Capital. This can easily be accessed if you go up the right side of giant Buddha via the boardwalk instead of left up the narrow cliffside staircase.

The Giant Buddha is worth seeing and you get pretty close and personal if you pay 80 RMB to hike up. The paths got pretty crowded towards the end of Golden Week and the steps going up and down are very narrow. We would recommend going on the river cruise here as well for 70 RMB.
To get here we took the train from Chengdu East to Leshan Station for 54 RMB one way which took an hour. It took us another half hour to get to the Leshan Grand Buddha Scenic Area by by Didi. To take the boat go to the Baxiandong North area near the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area - Ticket Hall on the north side of the dock area. The south wharf closest to the Buddha is for drop off only.

can be leisurely done in couple of hours
Did this as a day trip from Chengdu. Drive down in the morning. Would recommend entering the site before 10am. By noon the line up to go down to the platform at the feet was already very long. This was on a Saturday. Otherwise, very enjoyable site. Not counting the trip down to the feet of Buddha and up, the rest of the site can be leisurely done in a couple of hours.
Two see the entire statue from the front, the best option is to do a short boat tour and see it from the river. We didn't do that. Instead, we drove across the river to the tourist square and saw it from there. It is further and the angle is not perfect, but still sufficient to get the feel. Also saved us waiting in lines for the boat and being squeezed in the crowd on it.

How to get to this incredible place
Took a fast train from Chengdu (45 minutes) and then a taxi from the station (20 minutes) to arrive and find out the buddah was closed! Was literally 50m from it, but couldn't see it at all. Due to heavy ('heavy') rain they had closed the attraction and all the boats had stopped. Due to the position in the cliff, you can't see any of it (not even a toe!) unless you enter the ticket section and it had all been closed. A big shame! Then took 3 hours in a car to get back to Chengdu. A disappointing experience! I suggest contacting someone local to confirm whether it is open or not, I hadn't even considered it would be something they would close.

Giant Buddha in Leshan
Getting There - Emeishan - Leshan (15min, 11rmb)
Attractions - river cruise
Hotels - Hot Springs Hotel in Emeishan
Food & Restaurants - Chinese restaurants near the tourist attractions
It's recommended to arrive to Leshan early before heat and crowds. Many people travel to the Big Buddha from Chengdu, but we had some extra time, that's why we stayed for 2 night near Emeishan and traveled to Leshan from there. It's very close and convenient to get to the Buddha by train or taxi.
The cruise costs 120-150rmb per person (30min). We stopped for about 10min right opposite to the Buddha so everyone had a chance to take pictures.
After the cruise we walked 500m further and entered the Giant Buddha Scenic area. It costs 80yuan, there you can see Buddha really close and take some nice pictures.
This place is definitely worth visiting and it isn't crowded at all if you arrive early enough. The park is open from 7:30am until 6:30pm.

Secondly we went up to walk around the Buddha close up which was good fun. It's good to do both if you are visiting The Big Buddha in Leshan.

Leshan Giant Buddha! The view from different sides after entering the sightseeing area. This stature and work that has been done by ancient masters. Impressive.
but overcrowded, so many people!!!! We have stranded in the line during one hour just to enter the path leading to the Buddha foots. Then we had to climb up with thousands of people.
About stature and spot... once again, we had an unforgettable experience.
MaxS
To take a boat ride to watch the Leshan Big Buddha is a must. You have a chance to see whole stature from a distance avoiding the climbing and crowd of people. This view is comprehensively includes all spot. Duration of boat cruise is about thirty minutes. That's enough to get full impression from this miracle. This is truly wonder of our world.

In Leshan, there are many ways to see the Big Buddha.
Way one, is the most primitive climbing Buddha, feel the shock of the big Buddha at close range, tickets 80 yuan, as a world-class scenic spot, tickets 80, in fact, is really conscience;
way two, by boat To visit the Big Buddha, this process only takes 30 minutes. There is no need to enter the scenic spot. The ticket is 50 yuan. There are two docks with ships. Actually, it is not far from the inn where I live, but it is not included in my consideration;
way three, opposite the Leshan government, taking a ferry, ferry twice, you can go to the state opposite the Leshan Giant Buddha, where You can see the Big Buddha from afar, and there are many farmhouses. The cost of the ferry seems to be 3 yuan. There is basically no tourist to go, because this news is the most authentic travel guide provided by the locals provided by the onlookers who took the plane.
way four is the way I use, on the shore, find a quiet Unobstructed corners, put drones. I have studied it before I went to Leshan. I thought that Leshan should not let the drone fly. As a result, after seeing the map, the whole Leshan did not fly and fly, so I was very bold in the two days of Leshan. It has been flying several times. It is said that the Buddha has collected a lot of drones in the past few years. After all, the airflow on the river surface of the Sanjiang River is not stable, so it was particularly cautious when flying for the first time. With the first experience, the flight behind is getting more and more open.

Sitting by the river, the thousand-year-old Buddha charm.
Walking towards the Leshan Giant Buddha, you can see it towering over the green mountains from afar, overlooking the rolling river with an extraordinary aura. The Buddha is entirely carved out of red sandstone, and the marks of time are clearly visible on its texture, yet it does not diminish its compassionate demeanor. The eyes, gazing down at the river, seem to have witnessed the vicissitudes of a thousand years and the changes of the world.
Descending the mountain and walking step by step, looking up at the Buddha from a close distance adds to the awe. Every inch of the Buddha's carving is exquisite and delicate, with even the fingernails clearly visible. The river breeze caresses your face, and the whispers of tourists blend with the sound of the river hitting the shore, creating an interesting harmony, as if traveling through time to witness the miracle of the Buddha's excavation with the ancients.
As the sunset slants, the afterglow spreads over the Buddha, making it more solemn and silent under the golden light. Standing at the foot of the Buddha, looking up at this thousand-year-old masterpiece, one feels a surge of awe for history and deep reflection on faith. The Leshan Giant Buddha, sitting by the river, with its immortal Buddha charm, has witnessed the changes of generations and left endless spiritual shock for future generations.
