Enjoy the Serene Tranquility of a Deep Mountain Temple in Kyoto, Japan: Kurama-dera.
Located in the northern mountains of Kyoto, Kurama Temple is a secluded and serene deep mountain Buddhist temple. The Great Tengu is the symbol of Kurama, and you can see Tengu decorations and a large statue from the station.
You can get there directly by taking the Eizan Electric Railway from Demachiyanagi. If you want to visit Kifune Shrine, get off at Kibune-guchi, the station before Kurama, and then take a bus or walk.
The Eizan Electric Railway has only two short carriages, and if you're lucky, you can ride in a scenic carriage with seats facing the windows, allowing you to enjoy the mountainous scenery along the way.
Kurama Temple is quiet with few visitors, but it really involves climbing a mountain. There are towering sacred trees and various staircases and slopes to ascend, which take at least 30 minutes to walk through. Alternatively, you can choose to pay for a cable car ride up, but you still have to walk a bit to see everything.
At the entrance gate, there is a whole row of stone steps and red lanterns, giving the illusion of arriving at Kifune Shrine, and it's even better for taking pictures because there are fewer people.
Behind Kurama Temple, there is a trail called the Kinone Path that leads to Kifune Shrine. It takes about 60-90 minutes to walk, allowing you to slowly enjoy the beauty of the forest. However, if you're not physically fit, please be cautious, as it really is a mountain climb!

Kyoto Guide Sanzen-in Temple is so beautiful. I want to go there during the maple leaf season.
A must-see in Kyoto’s niche attractions, a one-day trip without stepping on the sights of the Thunder Goddess
💫About the itinerary
Trip planning:
📍Nanzenji Temple—📍Sanzenin—📍Kikawa Shrine—📍Kurama Temple
Nanzenji Temple: Opens at 9 o'clock. The scenic spot is grand. There are not many people here early in the morning. 1 hour is enough for sightseeing and taking photos.

The business hours are 9:00-17:00. It is highly recommended. The scenery inside is rich, the mountains, rivers, green plants and buildings are beautiful. It is a perfect combination of man and nature. You can go shopping for 1.5-2 hours. I have to say that the mountain road up from Ohara Station is also It’s particularly beautiful, with streams along the way, and the temperature in the mountains is cooler than in the city.
Kibune Shrine: No entrance fee, 30-40 minutes to visit. The shrine is not big but very unique. You can draw water tickets. There are many Kawadoko dishes to experience along the way. If you are lucky enough, you can also meet wild deer drinking water by the river.
You can walk to Kurama Temple at Kibune Shrine. You can navigate according to the map 🗺️. At Kurama Station, you can see the huge Tengu mask statue, with its long nose, frowning brows, and downturned corners of the mouth. It looks very majestic from the side. It's very fierce. Looking at it from the front... it's a bit funny, as if it's showing off its cuteness through pouty lips.
Continuing forward, you will reach the main gate of Kurama Temple. There is a long staircase at the entrance, with lampstands dedicated by believers on both sides. Buy a ticket at the door to enter. It’s not called a ticket here, it’s called a “Mountain Love Fee”.
Kurama Temple is very large, and the whole area is spread out on the mountain. The process of visiting is a process of climbing the mountain, which is still a bit hard. If you are not confident in your physical strength or don’t want to be so tired, you can choose to take the cable car at Puming Hall not far from the gate.
Today’s itinerary is very fulfilling and full. I recommend it to those who are energetic in Kyoto for the second time.
️ The scenic spots around the city are remote. It is recommended to charter a car when traveling with children and the elderly.
Save worry and effort

The mountain gate of the pommel temple is very magnificent, and the heart can't help but see it. It seems that this is a small temple. At the door, I studied the inside picture of the Ang Mashan case and found that the pommel temple covered almost the entire mountain. The entire trail can be walked from the entrance to Renwangmen to the Aoyuan Courtyard of the Guishen Shrine. Unfortunately, this paragraph was closed because of the impact of the typhoon in September.
Ren Wangmen has a long step behind him, standing red lanterns twice, and the red maple leaf on the top of his head. This picture is exactly the same as that of the Guiyang Shrine propaganda photo, but the name is not as expensive as the ship, and because it is too big, the tourists are not so crowded. Going up, it is the cable car station. This section connecting the foot of the mountain and the mountainside is said to be the shortest cable car in Japan, 200 yen one way. If the legs are good, you can walk up and there will be several unique temples along the road.
For example, this is due to the shrine. Every summer, the pommel horse fire festival is held at this shrine. It is said that hundreds of people hold torches and the scene is spectacular! The main god here is an old cedar tree with an oversized age. The trunks of four or five people are thick and thick, and they stretch straight to the blue sky. Looking up, you can treat cervical spondylosis. Continue to go up, as well as Yushan Dahetian, Zhuan Falun Hall, and the Temple Jintang. The more you go to the mountains, the more interesting the scenery is. Some people laughed and talked about it. There is a natural museum hidden in the pommel temple. It is not an exaggeration.
Maple.
Kyotos Pomma Temple, on the outskirts of Kyoto, is not a popular attraction. There are very few people coming here. The first time I knew this place was still a set of cartoon male and female protagonists who came to study and came here for a date. The comics felt very beautiful. Later, the professor who played the role of Zhang Xueyou in the movie equator was the pommel temple at the end of the movie, so I decided to come and see.
It is also very good to get off the electric iron at the Toei-Tokyo-Ryoyama Electric Railway Pommel Station. There is a position facing the window. When you arrive at the Pomma Temple, you can choose to take the cable car up the mountain or go up. If you have enough physical strength, you can walk over the wooden roots of more than 1 kilometer, the Aoyuan and the Devil's Temple. After passing through the very primitive woods, the North Exit will go to the Guishen Shrine. .

The Pommel Temple was founded in 770 AD by the famous Gaochun Jianzheng monk from the Chinese native Dongdu. When you get out of the station, you can see the statue of the pommel horse. The pommel temple is famous for the legend of the Tengu, and it is worshipped as the temple of the ghost gate of the capital city.
From the entrance to the Renwang Gate (Shanmen Gate), you need to go through a long step. I haven't entered the pommel temple yet, I was captivated by the beauty here. The orange lanterns on both sides of the steps are very similar to those of the Guishen Shrine, and the red leaves complement each other. The early advantage of coming is that there are not many people here. The time I arrived is probably open at 9:00 in the morning, for your reference. If you want to take a picture of a lantern that is empty, it is recommended that everyone come in as soon as they open the door. Compared with her neighbor, the Guishen Shrine, there are obviously fewer people here. Therefore, if you like the small partner of Lantern in the picture above, if you can't take the empty ship shrine, you can come here and try your luck~
shun the mountain and walk up, you will see it in the near future. The huge cedar tree is said to have been 800 years old. It is still quite physically demanded to visit here. The long steps lead to the Yusho Shrine, where the patron saint of the Pommel Temple is enshrined. If you want to reach the main hall of the pommel temple, it takes 30 minutes to climb the mountain, or you can choose to take a cable car and then climb the mountain.
Transportation: Ruishan tram rides to the end of the pommel station, and walks 1 minute to the northeast.
Arale_Zhang.
For the first time in Kyoto, I chose a place that is not very well known and far away: Pommel Mountain.
It takes about an hour's drive to take the tram from the city to the pommel temple. Most of the passengers in the car are locals. I dont know what it is like to be an ordinary traffic line. After about a third of the journey, the maple leaves on both sides began to increase. I feel that every place along the way is good. If you want to travel by car, it is estimated that time is spent on the road.
Get off at the E15 stop of the pommel horse line (if you want to go directly to the ship's shrine, get off at the E16 ship and then pick up the bus), you can see a statue of a tengu as soon as you stand out, this is to say It has already become famous for the legend of "Tengu", and it is worshipped as the temple of the ghost gate of the capital city - the pommel temple. Located in Maomao-cho, Zuojing-ku, Kyoto, Japan, the pommel temple was founded in 770 AD (the first year of the tortoise) by the famous Gaochun Jianzheng monk from the Chinese native Dongdu, Japan. . In the fifteenth year of the extension (796), the Ishihara Ise people built a church. Many temples in the temple have been repeatedly burned in the long history, and most of the existing temple buildings are reconstructed in modern times. In addition, the temple still preserves the relics related to the tragic hero of the twelfth century, Yuanyuan Sutra, such as Tiangoushan, Yongzheng Valley, and Dongguangfang. More unexpectedly, there are quite a few scenes here, which have appeared many times in the anime "Detective Conan".
