I went to Inner Mongolia for the real-life version of "Dune"... I can't believe I found the same desert scenery in Inner Mongolia as in the movie "Dune".
I went to Inner Mongolia for the real-life version of "Dune"... I can't believe I found the same desert scenery in Inner Mongolia as in the movie "Dune". The scenery of the Kubuqi Desert is really shocking. The natural wind outlines the brush strokes, which is very healing. It feels great to take an off-road vehicle deep into the desert. Staying in a camp in the desert, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, looking up at the starry sky at night, it's really shocking.

Kubuqi Desert 🇨🇳 Inner Mongolia
Hiking in the Desert is an experience I'll never forget.
It was as expected ridiculously hot, with almost no shade. The hiking itself is moderately difficult, you'll just need to make sure you carry enough water as there are no vendors until you reach the campsites.
The kit lists you'll be advised to prepare for this kind of tour are completely excessive 🤣. You'll need a pair of hiking shoes, a hat and a load of sun cream (plus your regular travel bag). The guides in our case provided the poles and shoes covers.
For the hike, we put all our bags into the tour bus, which met us later in the evening at the campsite.
In the campsite they had large communal showers, a huge firepit, a 'restaurant' and a small shop to buy drinks, snacks and local alcoholic beverages.
The evening entertainment was a battery powered KTV speaker, Chinese lanterns and a box of fireworks.
A cool trip and a different experience.

A winter trip to Inner Mongolia is a chance to encounter stunning scenery.
What to do in Hohhot in winter?
When it comes to Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, the first thing that comes to mind is the vast grasslands. It seems that there is nothing to do in winter. Indeed, many scenic spots are closed during this season. What to do? Actually, it's time to try something different! Off-road vehicle routes offer a chance to see many natural wonders, such as snowy volcanoes, the Red Mountain, and the desert. Off-road vehicles can take you through forests and grasslands, skiing, and snowmobiling. These activities are perfect for this winter. There are very few people during this season, so you can have a great experience without going to crowded places like Harbin.
Recommended attractions:
Desert
Many scenic spots are closed, but the Kubuqi Desert and Resonant Sand Gorge are still open in November. You don't have to go to a scenic spot to enjoy the desert. Local tours offer off-road vehicle rides through the desert. This tour includes a four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle that takes you to the wild desert of Longtouguai, deep into the desert, where you can enjoy unlimited sandboarding.
Grassland
The grass in Huitengxile Grassland has turned yellow, and the scenic spot is closed. At this time, local tours can take you through the Huiteng Forest Grassland, a relatively niche area with no entrance fee. It features birch and pine forests, offering a more primitive landscape.
Wulanhada Volcano
Wulanhada Volcano is free all year round. The volcano is black, and its appearance is not affected by the seasons.
Red Mountain
This is not a scenic spot, but a red Danxia landform. The red mountain is perfect for photography, with no filter needed. The road is under construction, so low-chassis cars are not suitable. You need a high-chassis off-road vehicle.
This season is perfect for off-road vehicle tours. You can enjoy many natural landscapes without entrance fees.
❤❤ Food Recommendations 🍛
Pot tea milk tea (salty or sweet), ice-cooked lamb (highly recommended!!), roasted lamb chops, milk skin, stuffed tripe, jiong noodles, handmade old yogurt, freshly roasted beef jerky, sand onion scrambled eggs, lamb skewers, xiguo soup, lamb shumai, yurt cake, etc.
❤❤ Tips
Inner Mongolia is vast and sparsely populated. If you drive or travel independently, it can be difficult to solve any problems that arise. It is recommended to join a reliable local tour group. This way, accommodation, transportation, and tickets are all planned for you. The cost per person is not expensive, and compared to independent travel, it is truly more convenient and cost-effective!

Wittygypsy
The most practical guide to visiting the Kubuqi Desert Scenic Area.
The Kubuqi Desert scenic spot is not big, and its main focus is desert recreation. The order of the tours determines the tour experience.
1. Tickets.
Tickets are 30 yuan, and it is recommended to buy a package of 280 yuan, which includes surfing, camel riding, desert spaceship, sandboarding, and a small train;
Parking is free which is a nice touch.
2. Play order.
(1) After entering the scenic area gate, you will be taken to the core scenic area by a surfing car. The surfing car should be regarded as the most fun item in the whole place, and the whole car is full of laughter.
(2) After getting off the bus, go to the right and ride a camel first. A camel ride takes about 10 minutes, so the queue time is the longest among all events;
The photos taken by the camel riding merchant are very professional and the results are very good. They are directly made into finished products with photo frames. There are 30 photos each, which is worth buying.
(3) After the camel ride🐪, you can take photos nearby. There is a sign with the name Kubuqi, and the group photo is very nice;
(4) After taking photos, queue up to play the desert spaceship. It is actually similar to sandboarding. You sit on a wheeled iron plate and rush down. The playability is average;
(5) After the desert spaceship is over, go left to go sand sledding. The slope is very steep. Use your hands to grasp the sand to control the speed. People who are old or dare not play can only go down the sand slope next to it (there is no way to go), no It is very unreasonable to take a small train out of the park if you go down the sandy slope.
3. Things to note.
There are very few meals in the scenic area, so it is best to bring your own dry food;
There is basically no shade when queuing up for the project, so you must be exposed to the sun, so be sure to wear sunscreen.

Kubuqi Desert | Wind meets sand, hot and free-spirited
The endless desolation is a beauty unique to the desert.
This time I went to the Kubuqi Desert, fewer people, easy to take photos.
This shuttle off-road vehicle looks great in photos, very impressive 🏜️.
Super sunny❕ Make sure to protect yourself from the sun❕

The depths of the desert look like this
Here is Dabanzhou, the great adventure of self-driving around China is still ongoing.
Recently, we arrived at the Kubuqi Desert.
In the barren land where not a blade of grass grows,
I saw the shape of the wind
and the shadow of the light.

Inner Mongolia | Kubuqi Desert, the key point is that there are not many people
I didn't choose the closer Resonant Sand Bay to Hohhot
In order to experience the wild desert, I drove for more than an hour
The arrival at the destination proved that the choice was correct
There were only 6 people in the whole desert play project, and it was a one-stop service
There is only one hotel within a radius of 20 kilometers, like a left-behind child stationed in the desert
So just navigate to 📍Yeming Sand Hotel
Even if it was cloudy that day, I still saw the stars all over the sky at night
And the first Milky Way 🌌 I saw in my life
The joy of childhood has grown up with me🎈
.
Shooting coordinates 📍Ordos 📍Yeming Sand
Self-driving route: Hohhot➡️Yeming Sand, about 3 and a half hours
Highway fee: 💰99
⚠️It is best to bring some dry food, the hotel does not serve meals all day
⚠️And disposable items, it is indeed difficult to meet the hygiene standards in the desert
⚠️Down jacket is really necessary

7th Biggest Desert in China 🇨🇳
#wecreate
When I say 7th biggest , it is actually the smallest desert in China but still way bigger than London City . Mindblowing! We did a private tour and a private tour guide so everything was very convenient. It was my first time riding a camel and it is an experience worth remembering. The jeep sand dune driving was so much fun. You'd only reach this area of the desert by a cable car first then once you arrive in the tourist area then you can enjoy all the activities there.
This place to be honest has become so commercial and touristy so temper your expectations. But if you can just enjoy the activities then you will probably have a good time there.
It is a 4-5 drive from hohhot.
TIP: Do bring Sunscreen and a hat if you don't want to be burnt.
Interesting and admirable fact: They managed to transform this part of kubuqi desert into wetlands where people can farm and live. It is very impressive.
Enjoy your desert experience.?

Photographed in the Kubuqi Desert
person, you must go to see the desert, so that you can experience the greatness of nature, the smallness of human beings, picnicking at Lake Zahar, singing at the campside, Couples who took wedding photos on foot, wrapped in sleeping bags, waited until the moon fell, watching the Milky Way slowly climb the top of the head, the top of the head is all shining stars, watching the desert and the smoke and watching the Yellow River sunset Feel the nine songs and eighteen bends are some great memories, slowly try to grow slowly, and make a promise, you must bring your own children to the Kubuqi Desert to experience the beauty of the desert.
Muse.
The Kubuqi Desert is the seventh largest desert in China and the desert closest to Beijing. The west, north and east sides are bounded by the Yellow River.
The last trip to the desert in Shapotou left a very good memory, nostalgia for the desert buggy, the leisure of a camel ride and the embarrassment of riding a sheepskin. I always think that there is no day to nostalgic, just this time to play in the Xilamuren grassland, not far from the Kubuqi Desert, just to regain memories, so I quickly made a decision with my wife.
Along the way, it was soon to the scenic spot, Xiangshawan, a famous 5A-level tourist attraction. In fact, there are deserts everywhere, everywhere can be used as attractions, just circled around and got some playing items.
bought tickets and play packages at the door, the price is more expensive than Shapotou. However, the facilities and services in the scenic spots are not comparable to Shapotou, but they always come, and they still have fun.
Note:
1, first of all, pay attention to sunscreen, hats, shawls, long-sleeved pants are essential, where the sun is dark.
2, secondly, pay attention to sand prevention. If your camera has a professional sand cover, it is good. If you don't use plastic wrap instead, you must pack it. Otherwise, it will be when the lens is in focus after entering the sand. The ground is ringing, and you are distressed to die. In addition to the camera to prevent sand, shoes should also be sand-proof, it is best to spend 10 yuan in front of the scenic area to rent a sand-proof shoe cover at the door, so that you can have fun.
3, with enough water and food, although the scenic area is also sold, but you know that the price is definitely not optimistic.
