Antalya's Old Town (Kaleici) - Turkey
It is a must see place in Antalya! The old town, named Kaleici, is a great place to spend a day walking and exploring this wonderful town full of history. It has more than two thousand years of history!
Numerous historical monuments are collected here. Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans – they all left their traces in Kaleici in the form of their characteristic architecture. Perfectly restored whitewashed and red-roofed Ottoman mansions are now home to boutique hotels, souvenir shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants.
Kaleici is a home to Hadrian’s Gate, dates back to Roman Empire Period (130 A.D.), Yivli Minaret Mosque builded in 13th century, Broken Minaret Mosque had been builded as a temple in 2nd century by Romans and turned into a Byzantion church and many other. Visitors will be able to see lots of architecture from different centuries just by walking around the Old Town.
You’ll easily find Kaleici by walking or taking a taxi to Kale Kapisi, the main square, which stands out thanks to the stone-clad Clock tower, built during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II in 1901.

The old town of kaleici is amongst the most beautiful things about this part of the Turkish coast. In central Antalya, Kaleici is a treat for holiday goers. It blends the charm of old, historic with coastal aura and cliffside locations. There are a lot of walking opportunities in those alleys interspersed with historic ruins and old architecture.
I'm a big fan of old towns in general and my time in Kaleici has been the most memorable. I had a weekend stay here and it perfectly suits the place. There is a harbor which dates back to the Roman times. Also, from Marina one can take a boat to see the duden falls. Vibrant night life, plenty of shops and restaurants in the old town to serve all your needs. It does attract a lot of young people for a reason.

Old Town Kaleici is a historic neighborhood located in the heart of the modern Turkish resort city of Antalya on the Mediterranean coast. It is considered a popular tourist attraction. It is famous not only for its Ottoman architecture, labyrinthine narrow winding streets, and authentic mosques but also for its numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars with concert halls. There are historical monuments from different periods and eras. If you are interested in history and ancient architecture, visit this atmospheric location.
On the plus side, Kaleici has a beautiful marina surrounded by cliffs, shops and restaurants. Walking around the Old Town Kaleici is interesting due to history and architecture with lots of interesting local shops. The town is built on a hillside so you are either walking upbank or down bank interspersed with steps here and there - people with mobility issues might struggle getting around. There is a great tram service that takes you into Antalya city or local beaches. Also lots of taxis. There are plenty of money exchange bureaus and we found the exchange rates much better there than at at home.
If you’re a ‘sea, sun and sand’ person, I would say Kaleichi is probably not for you but if you enjoy walking, sightseeing and soaking up local culture then you will probably love Kaleichi.

If you finally got tired swimming and had enough sun tanning in Antalya’s Mediterranean waters, its time to hit the Old city where history’s evidences still lingers. The streets are narrow with all the boutique shops on the side, mini cafes and ice cream shops are a plenty.
There is a Marina on at the edge of the city where you get to see the pirate ships that offers tours for 100TL over sunset.
This area in Antalya is a must visit.

The scenery here in Kaleici is so beautiful that it is the most memorable place in Turkey. When I went there, the sun was shining, just out of the blue Mediterranean Sea, allowing me to quietly admire the city.
There is a variety of food stores, specialty shops, local people on the road, and leisurely fishing on the shore that you can find. You can stop for a cup of apple tea in the outdoor seating of the café. You can purchase lovely tea sets in one of the many shops on the street as well. It is the perfect place for a lazy vacation in the sun.

Kaleic in Antalya is located on the shores of the Gulf of Antalya in the Mediterranean Sea. The city has a long history. The old town has a long and narrow street, near the Mediterranean coast, the waves by the bay and clouds, lining with its beautiful mountains, the scenery here is very beautiful. Antalya's tourist crowd is much lower than in Europe, but the feel of holiday comfort is not lost to other coastal cities in the Mediterranean. Walking in the old town of Antalya, I accidentally met someone who invited me for a drink. Gentle Antalya has a unique climate in the Mediterranean. It is sunny for almost 300 days a year, and this is why this place is a very popular tourist destination. Since the Byzantine period in Rome, Antalya has been an important port in Turkey. The blue waves of the bay and the blue color of the sky have become one, and view of the sea and sky is spectacular. There are almost no long beaches, and there are large chunks of reefs on the coast, which shows a variety of shapes. They are washed away on the beach by the Mediterranean water year after year.
