Lost in Jiu Fen
Jiu Fen old street used to be known as the spirited away animation. Many say that Ah Mei tea house looks like the bath house in that animation and many claimed it was inspired by Jiu Fen old street. However Miyazaki (the author) debunkers the rumours. It has a lot of ‘No Face’ character in most of the souvenirs shop. However this time I saw very little of it. Nevertheless, it still worth to visit, it still giving ghibi vibes. The nearby mountains also very nice place to hike for the sunset. Definitely will come again to explore more 🤩

I'm not coming to Jiufen Old Street again!
Located in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, Jiufen Old Street is a place full of historical charm and unique charm. It was once prosperous due to gold mines, and gradually became silent with the decline of the mining industry. But in recent years, with its well-preserved Japanese-style architecture, charming mountain city scenery and rich cultural connotations, it has once again become one of the popular tourist destinations. Walking on the winding old streets, as if in the scene of Hayao Miyazaki's animated film "Spirited Away", every brick and tile tells the story of the past.
📅📅📅Itinerary📅📅📅
Morning: Depart from Taipei, take a bus or train to Ruifang Station and then take Keelung Passenger Transport to Jiufen (about 1 hour drive). After arriving, first visit the site of Shengping Theater to learn about the history of local drama culture.
Noon: Taste authentic snacks such as taro ball soup, grass dumplings, etc., and drink a cup of mellow oolong tea in the teahouse to enjoy a moment of tranquility.
Afternoon: Explore various specialty shops and handicraft shops along Jishan Street; don't miss the two old brands of Aunt Gan's Taro Balls and Lai's Taro Balls! Then go to the Gold Museum to learn about the brilliant mining history of Jiufen.
Night: In the evening, go to the observation deck to enjoy the sunset, and return to the city when night falls to end a happy day.
🍽️🍽️🍽️Food recommendation🍽️🍽️🍽️
Taro balls: soft and chewy balls with red bean paste or mung bean paste, and then drizzled with special sugar water, sweet and refreshing.
Jinguashi Zongzi: Traditional zongzi made with local specialty golden melon silk wrapped with rich fillings, with distinct layers of taste.
Alan's rice wine egg: Fresh eggs are boiled in hot rice wine, which is fragrant and nourishing.
Brown sugar cake: The crust is crispy and the inside is dense, sweet but not greasy, it is one of the must-buy souvenirs for many tourists.
🚌🚌🚌Traffic Raiders🚌🚌🚌
Self-driving: Depart from Taipei and drive along National Highway No. 3 to the Bade Interchange, and then follow the sign to Jiufen.
Public transportation: You can choose to take the MRT to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station and take the Guoguang Passenger Transport Jiufen Direct Line; or take the train to Ruifang Station and then transfer to Keelung Passenger Transport 788 bus.
Remind everyone to pay attention to the last bus time to avoid missing the return trip.
Jiufen is not only a good place to relax, but also a historical journey worth savoring.

Shopping for Souvenirs in Jiufen
1️⃣ Jiufen Ah Xin's Shop Ginger Tea
- Mango Jelly, Lychee Jelly
This jelly shop can be found by walking straight along the entrance line of Jiufen. The price is 1000 TWD for 5 pieces.
Both the mango jelly and lychee jelly are not too sweet, making them a good choice for a post-meal treat.
Each piece is individually wrapped, which is nice. The size is not small, and it comes with a separate spoon.
2️⃣ Misty Nougat Crackers Jiufen Branch (米詩堤甜點王國)
There are two types of boxes: small and large. The large box contains 25 nougat crackers, while the small box contains 15.
3️⃣ Xing Fu Tang Jiufen
Xing Fu Tang is a famous bubble tea shop in Taiwan. Fortunately, there is a Xing Fu Tang at the entrance of Jiufen, so I tried a cup. Normally, it costs 100 TWD, but in Jiufen, it's a bit cheaper at 90 TWD.

It feels like stepping into a movie! Jiufen, full of local Taiwanese atmosphere.
I visited Jiufen in Taiwan, and it was truly a unique and beautiful place. It felt like stepping into a scene from a movie. The narrow alleys and stairs lit by red lanterns were especially charming. There were many tea houses where I enjoyed a traditional cup of tea while taking in the scenery. Exploring the small shops in the alleys was quite fun, and I got to taste some local foods as well. Although there are quite a few hills, the views are so stunning that it's definitely worth the effort.

📍Jiufen Old Street Market, New Taipei City, Taiwan
Taiwan is renowned for its scrumptious local street food. I went to one of the famous street market in Taipei which is Jiufen Old Street Market. It is a small village in the mountains located one hour away drive from Taipei.
There is a lot of delicious local food there. One of local I tried is Peanut Ice Cream Roll as in the last picture. By the looks it might be tempting, and once you are getting a bite, the taste is heavenly tasty, yum! 🤤
You can also try its delicious chicken and sea food crispy snack during your exploration along the street.
You can do anything you want here, not just only eating local food, but you may also walk along the Jiufen Old Street, do some shopping at the souvenir store. Just go with the flow and you will find its attractiveness. You can also visit the famous A-Mei lantern tea house and chill out for a while with a cup of tea.
My personal opinion, Jiufen is worth a visit for you to vibing with Taiwanese traditional vibes.

Taipei Coffee Shop Tour: The Black-themed Cafe of the World Latte Art Champion
Taipei. Jiufen|CHLIV
Known for its world champion latte art, 'CHLIV' is a must-visit spot for travelers in Jiufen. Black-themed cafes are quite rare in Taiwan, and this one primarily offers takeout due to its limited seating. On a hot summer day, an iced Americano is a perfect choice, even though their beautiful latte art is what they're famous for. No worries, CHLIV opened a new branch in Huashan last December, so I'll definitely visit again soon.

🇹🇼 Flavors of Jiufen: Street Eats Extravaganza 🍡🍨🌿
#travelanywhere
Jiufen, a historic town nestled in the lush hills of northern Taiwan, captivates visitors with its narrow alleys, traditional tea houses, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Once a bustling gold mining hub, Jiufen retains its old-world charm with lantern-lit lanes and retro architecture that evoke a nostalgic atmosphere lantern🏮
One of Jiufen's most beloved culinary treasures is its Taro Balls dessert. These chewy, translucent spheres are made from taro root and sweet potato starch, delicately flavored and often served in a warm ginger syrup or with a sprinkle of crushed peanuts. The texture is both comforting and satisfying, offering a delightful contrast to the bustling streets of Jiufen 🥜
Another favorite treat found in Jiufen is Dorayaki, a Japanese-inspired pancake dessert filled with sweet red bean paste. These fluffy pancakes are often cooked fresh and sandwiched together, creating a delightful combination of soft, slightly sweet pancake layers enveloping a creamy, earthy red bean filling. Dorayaki's popularity in Jiufen underscores the town's diverse culinary influences and its ability to embrace flavors from across Asia 🥞
Together, Jiufen, Taro Balls, and Dorayaki form a trifecta of culinary delights that not only satisfy the palate but also evoke a sense of cultural richness and historical depth in this enchanting Taiwanese town. 🍂

Jiufen- Inspired Spirited Away Anime
#2024wish
Jiufen Old Street was one of the most beautiful places I went to in Taiwan. The inspiration for the world-famous Spirited Away anime comes from this place, which is quite crowded and interesting.
I went for a day trip from Taipei by train. Transportation is not very difficult, I arrived in 1 hour and 15 minutes. 🚞
When I came here, I discovered it everywhere. You can taste famous Taiwanese street food in every corner you walk. I especially recommend you to taste different famous teas. You can also watch the sea view from most places. I spent the whole day without getting bored.
In 2024, I want to go to Machu Pichhu, which is something I am very curious about⛰️

Jiufen Old Street at night 🌙
Talk a walk down Jiufen Old Street at night, and you will be memerised by its beautiful decorations and architecture.
The main attraction in Jiufen at night will be the A-Mei Teahouse. Where locals and tourists will flock to, to take pictures and appreciate its beautiful structure.
Almost everywhere is decorated with red lanterns, quite beautiful
I would recommend dining in at the teahouse for a better view and also good food.
It is not easy to get a table during nighttime, so be early or make a reservation to avoid disappointment.
It's not really accessible as there are stairs everywhere.

Jiufen Old Street
Jiufen Old Street should be a must-visit for visitors to Taipei. The area was once a gold mining town but now is more famous for its teahouses and scenic views of the mountains and sea. It also apparently inspired the Japanese movie Spirited Away, so there are lots of shops selling Studio Ghibli souvenirs. It is over an hour from the central parts of Taipei, but we found a direct bus here from Ximen station.

Jiufen Old Street with pretty sunset 🌅
Situated in the county of Rueifang, Jiufen is seated in the mid valley.. take the shuttle bus from rueifang train station or a taxi up. Journey takes about 45mins.
It will be a good choice to visit this place after taking a light lunch as you will be able to fit in more snacks from the shops along the way.. best timing is to come at around 2~3pm.. the streets will take about an hour or two to roam (of course depends on your shopping pace) 🤭🤭
After all the foods n shopping, head down to the viewing gallery (or midway viewing spot) for the Sunset. Can check out the sunset timing using your weather app , it’s quite accurate
If you intend to take the public transport, pls take note of the last bus departure timing as it differs during peak and off peak times

A Stairway to Taiwan's Past and Prese
Perched on the slopes of lush mountains in northern Taiwan, Jiufen is a picturesque village that seems to be plucked from the pages of a storybook. With its narrow alleyways, charming tea houses, and stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean, Jiufen is a treasure trove of beauty and nostalgia that captivates all who visit.
Step into Jiufen's labyrinthine streets and you'll find yourself transported back in time. The village's cobblestone pathways wind through traditional buildings adorned with red lanterns and intricate woodwork, creating an atmosphere of old-world charm. As you stroll through the bustling lanes, you'll encounter shops selling local crafts, art, and the region's famous handmade Taro Balls - a delicious treat that tantalizes the taste buds.
Jiufen's tea houses are a gateway to both relaxation and panoramic views. Sip on freshly brewed oolong tea while gazing out over the mountains and the ocean beyond, allowing the tranquility of the surroundings to wash over you. The view becomes especially enchanting as the sun sets, painting the sky with shades of pink and gold, and the village lights begin to twinkle.
The heart of Jiufen lies in its historic alleys, especially Jiufen Old Street. This bustling marketplace is a sensory delight, where the aroma of street food fills the air. Indulge in local delicacies like fishball soup, herbal pork stew, and savory taro cakes as you explore the myriad of stalls and eateries. At night, the street takes on a magical glow as traditional red lanterns illuminate the way, creating an ambiance that transports you to another era.
Jiufen's most iconic spot is undoubtedly the A-Ma Temple, perched on a hilltop overlooking the village. Dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu, this temple exudes an air of serenity and offers stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape and the vast Pacific Ocean. It's a place of quiet reflection, where visitors can pay their respects or simply soak in the beauty of the natural surroundings.
For those seeking a touch of cinematic nostalgia, Jiufen's charm was immortalized in the acclaimed animated film "Spirited Away" by Hayao Miyazaki. Certain elements of the village bear an uncanny resemblance to scenes from the movie, adding an extra layer of enchantment for fans.
Jiufen's allure lies in its ability to transport visitors to a simpler time, where the pace is slow and the beauty is abundant. It's a place to immerse yourself in a blend of culture, history, and natural splendor, leaving you with a sense of wonder and a yearning to return to its timeless embrace. #jiufen #spiritedaway #trip #tea #teahouse #lanterns

This place is said to have inspired the creation of “Spirited Away” anime. There are a lot of things to see and eat here. If you are not sure what to buy, just sample the food. The store owners are so friendly and keep offering their samples of food to tourists. If you spot something with a queue, it’s worth to join in the queue as usually it is some famous food in this street.

Jiufen - 老街
Jiufen is the place to drop by when you going to Shifen to put up sky lantern. We took a bus (965) from 中山北路站 and it takes about an hour and it reaches directly at Jiufen old street.
Jiufen Old Street is a narrow alleyway which have plenty of small food stalls, souvenir shops, and taro dessert and tea houses. You can just explore follow the alleyway to enjoy the upslope walk.
Enjoy a lunch such as Lu Rou Fan, visiting a tea house and enjoy the tea for awhile, and eat the pork sausage while waking around. After which, can stop over at 赖阿婆to have some taro ball soup which is famous in Jiufen. They are made on the spot and they are made in a chewy texture that is likeable by all age. You can choose to have it hot or cold (serve with red and green beans together). It’s a definite must try!
If you are like us that runs out of money in our bus card you can find 7-11 right outside the street.
If you would like to further explore you can continue to take 965 to 金瓜石 or return to Taipei directly via bus 1062 or Ruifang to further explore Shifen.
If you want, there’s also a few guest house that you can stay at to slowly explore the area. #jiufen

Jiufen Old Street - Taipei, Taiwan
One of my most memorable day trip in Taipei - Jiufen.
Jiufen is a small village located an hour from Taipei, and it has always been a very popular tourist attraction due to the similarity to the village in Spirited Away.
Things to do in Jiufen includes walking through the Old Street that’s packed with cafes, street food and souvenirs. You can also find a waterfall nearby too!
You can travel to Jiufen via Taxi (45 mins) or Train + Bus (1 hour). You definitely can’t miss this when you’re in Taipei!

The Streets And Food In Jiufen Old Street
#newyearadventure #jiufen #touristsattraction #attractions #shopping #foodie #taiwan #oldstreet #view #historical
Many of you who are looking to make jiufen as your to go to destination in Taiwan and especially if you are driving, parking here is impossible to find in the heart of jiufen unless you go to one of the parking vicinities by the locals where they will charge you quite a high price of about 200 - 300TWD. I recommend to head to the top of Jiufen for free parking or one of the temples here.
Why is Jiufen so popular, simply because this is a shopping and food heaven for all, with the many stall vendors in narrow streets, at different levels of the hilly terrain, you will see endless of these stalls all around you! There are a few popular must try food here loke the grandma taro balls and the teahouses here where you be able to catch a glimpse from above the hilly terrain and a view towards the shores. The entire area is also filled with many old shophouses making this a very authentic traditional feel.
I recommend to head here especially with a clear weather, as the weather here changes quite fast, ensure you check it before heading up here. Because on a clear day the view here us amazing!

🔹There is also a food menu. Come here for the best value.
