Be Immersed in the Culture of Japan

During our travels to Hakone, we paid a visit to Hakone’s famous shrine. It is well known for its striking red Torii gate set into Lake Ashi. There was a long line of people waiting to take a picture with the gate. We ventured up a steep flight of stairs to the main shrine complex. At the entrance there was a dragon water fountain for visitors to cleanse their hands before entering, a Japanese ritual when entering a shrine. The compound was impressive and the area tranquil. In there we made wishes for the new year, bought good luck charms and had a walk around. Definitely a memory to keep for a long time. One of the wishes we made at the shrine was to one day be able to revisit Japan in spring to see the wonderful Sakura. I hope that will be made true! #2023travelwish

If you visit #japan, you should go to #hakone it’s only a short train journey away. you can spend 2-3 days and visit the Onsen, which are traditional Japanese bath houses which are a experience in themselves. You can then do a day tour which takes you to the open air art museum, you can go and see the volcano - where you can buy and eat black eggs!! take a boat across to see the #torigate and you even go up the volcano in a cable car. it’s a great day out and then I’d recommend relaxing in the #onsen if your comfortable enough. Once we finished from visiting beautiful Hakone, which in the winter is even more beautiful as it snows - so you can visit any season. Lovely Tranquil Torii of Peace, Hakone

#createwithtrip to visit a tranquil and beautiful location. To get there, either take the lake Ashi Pirate Ship cruise from Togendai-ko to Hakone macho-ko or Hakone Tozan Bus directly to Hakone machi-ko. This shrine is a 10 mins walk from the pier/bus station. A gentle slope plus some steps. Normally on weekends or public holidays, expect a crowd and everyone will patiently queue for they turn to take photos. During my trip, there 2 big group of tourists who were trying to take multiple angles and repeated shots of the same angle with different poses 🤦🏻‍♂️ not nice, finally the whole queue voiced their dissatisfaction as there is no temple staff to keep the queue moving. It will always be long no matter the day or time. #2024wish It was a nice walk around the area. There was a line to take a picture in front of the shrine, but you have to visit at the exact time of the day, otherwise the sun is behind you and it is difficult to get a nice/clear picture without you being a silhouette. This is definitely a must-see place if you're in Yokohama or Tokyo. I want to go back here with my friends again.

#2024wish Picturesque and peaceful. Massive, old trees with moss add to the beauty. The shrine is crazy busy though, but everything else was great!!! You need to come really early! Or else you’ll end up in a long line. This was 8:00 on a Saturday not that bad but people took very long to take there pictures it felt like a photo shoot so I just went to the side and took a picture when they were switching. I wish to go back here in 2024!

Hakone shrine is well known for the large red torii gate located along the shore of Lake Ashi. This shrine gate is known as the “Gate of Peace” (heiwa no torii). The Torii Gate on the lake was erected in 1952 to commemorate the crown prince's reign and Japan's independence (conclusion of the peace treaty). Hakone Shine is absolutely beautiful. It's very picturesque deep in the woods with giant cedar trees. The Torii Gate floating in the water is surrounded by beautiful scenes of the lake and mountains. It takes abit of walking to reach this place and there are flight of stairs to climb up also, making it a little difficult for some to reach this place, especially young kids. Otherwise, Hakone shrine gives you a sense of peace and tranquility and gives you an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle. It's a quieter shrine and I love it that it is this serene. Heiwa no Tori is situated in an utterly tranquil and beautiful location. Some historical background about the shrine: This torii gate serves two purposes. First, this torii gate indicates "entrance" from the shore of Ashinko Lake to Hakone Shrine which sits 213 meters (700 feet) up on the hill behind the gate. This particular gate is unique in that there are not so many throughout all of Japan that have been built directly over the water. Second, this torii gate is named "Heiwa-no-Torii" (Gate of Peace), which was erected in 1951 to commemorate the Treaty of San Francisco where Japan concluded peace with 48 nations to formally end WWII. The "Heiwa-no-Torii" (Peace Gate), which leads up to Hakone Shrine tucked away in the mountainside above the lake, was erected in the water just off the shore of Ashinoko Lake.
