Haikou · Cultural Tour
I used to just pass by Haikou, but this time I decided to explore it thoroughly and unexpectedly embarked on a cultural journey.
The first stop was the Hainan Provincial Museum. The museum is very large with many exhibition halls, enough to spend a whole day exploring and learning about Hainan's history and culture. There are also some very interesting exhibition halls.
The second stop was the Wugong Temple. Besides the Wugong Temple, there is also the Sugong Temple within the scenic area. Tickets are required to enter the historical relics area.
The third stop was the Qilou Old Street. Walking along the old street, you can feel a different Haikou. Near Qilou Old Street, there is also the Clock Tower and the site of the Qiongya First Congress. However, the site is closed on Fridays, so I could only take a photo at the entrance.
The fourth stop was Evergreen Park - Yundong Bookstore. Evergreen Park is truly a treasure park for fresh air, clean and well-maintained. Walking along the seaside from Evergreen Park, you can directly reach Yundong Bookstore. The bookstore allows on-site reservations, and you can scan the code to make a reservation at every hour and half-hour. The bookstore has a unique design and is located by the sea, making it a great place for taking photos. Next to Yundong Bookstore is the famous Century Bridge.
The fifth stop was the Hairui Cultural Park. The exhibits and displays in the exhibition hall provide a comprehensive understanding of Hairui's historical stories. The park also houses Hairui's tomb.
It turns out that Haikou has so many hidden historical sites and cultural spaces that make one forget about the sea.

Haikou Beach Family Trip
A few days of leisure in Haikou, felt that other attractions were not surprising, but Hainan is indeed Hainan, and checking in at the three beaches in Haikou was still very pleasant.
1. Baishamen Beach. Before going to Baishamen, we went to the Hainan Provincial Museum. Apart from the shipwreck model, there were no highlights, not as good as museums in other places. But Hainan is too hot, suitable for taking kids out during the day. Arrived at Baishamen Beach in the evening, just in time for the sunset, which was beautiful. The sunset was slanting, and with an umbrella, you could cast a large shadow, one umbrella was enough for sun protection. Many people were swimming by the sea, and there was a small area surrounded by a few large stones, very safe for small children. The sand was fine, the sea was calm, the sunset was beautiful, and there were many locals. Across the road to the park, there were toilets and foot-washing areas, old but free. The price of small buckets and shovels was reasonable, regretted not buying them at the time...
2. Holiday Beach. We specifically chose a hotel by the sea for Holiday Beach, making it very convenient to go to the beach, but there were no shops around. It took ten minutes to walk to find a place to buy affordable water and food. The hotel had them, but at a higher price 💰. Apart from the expensive food and drinks, the hotel was nice, with hot springs, fish therapy, swimming, very comfortable. You can't see the sunset at Holiday Beach, just swim in the evening. There were many small fish in the sea, children had fun swimming and catching fish. The facilities around were more complete and newer than Baishamen Beach, but also more expensive. Knowing the prices at Baishamen, we reluctantly bought small shovels and buckets . Had dinner at a seaside food stall, not expensive. This place is suitable for watching the sunrise, pay attention to the time, the sun rises from the sea in two or three minutes. My literary skills are not enough, so I'll skip 100 words here (to express the beautiful sunrise). Checked the tide table (must go when the tide is low), Holiday Beach is great for catching the sea. Very suitable for beginners and children, not for eating, but for picking. No special equipment needed, no sharp reefs, just bring small shovels and buckets for the kids, near the non-swimming area by the pier. The beach was full of small shells, small conchs, small hermit crabs, small crabs, and sea anemones. With a shovel, you could dig out crabs, mantis shrimps, shells, etc. Near the pier, local fishermen cast nets, and there were many unwanted catches. We picked up small ribbonfish, small sharks 🦈 (the most exciting find), and the pier pillars were full of small oysters and mussels. Saw many unknown things in the fishermen's nets, better not touch them , just look. Of course, if you want to eat, don't choose here, because most are mini-sized. Maybe that's why there is no information or guides online about catching the sea here, no one except fishermen . We had the beach to ourselves, felt super great, both adults and kids had a whole day of fun...
3. Jinsha Bay Beach. The most beautiful sunset in Haikou (don't choose here for sunrise), the sunset is right in front of the beach, the most photogenic of the three beaches. Of course, hats and umbrellas are useless here, just use sunscreen and go later. The sand here was not as fine as the other two beaches, the waves were big, kids enjoyed sitting by the beach being hit by the waves , remind them to be safe. Met many people with professional equipment taking photos, and wedding photography teams. The sunset and waves were really photogenic. Remember to use the props by the beach, the swing must be swung, the highest point is the most photogenic . Tents, coconut trees, there was a path between the trees near the camping area, great for taking sunset photos from a distance. The sea was not glassy, but you could see the layers, clearer than Baishamen and Holiday Beach. Walking to the side of the swimming area, there were many broken oyster shells on the beach, I strongly suspect you could catch the sea here too, but too tired, didn't get up, couldn't confirm.
4. Others. Just play at the beaches in Haikou, none will disappoint. As for other attractions... whatever. Jinsha Bay is very close to Xin Hai Port, kids who haven't been on a boat wanted to experience it, took a cross-sea ferry, seriously counted how many cars were loaded onto the boat, lost count in the end... 😄 Haikou hotels and homestays are very good, reasonably priced. Taxis are very convenient, choose the cheapest option and you can get a ride immediately, no need to select multiple options like in other cities, no need.

Hainan Provincial Museum + Hainan Provincial Library: A Paradise for Kids
Day 7 Hainan—Haikou
Today, we successfully checked in at the Hainan Provincial Museum📍
We experienced the profound local culture of Hainan
The openness of immigrant culture
The uniqueness of water life
The simplicity of land life
Don't ask me how I know
Because we happened to catch the guided tour
It started at 10 AM
We followed the guide throughout the entire museum
The two sisters were very proactive
Wherever the guide went, they followed closely😂
They were deeply engrossed🤔
Since they were so eager to learn
We decided to strike while the iron was hot😎
We then went to the Hainan Provincial Library📍😂
There happened to be a children's section
The two kids immediately sat down quietly to read books📚
It was so comfortable
This laid-back parenting mode is amazing
We ate a lot with a 1TB stomach
Feeling satisfied 😌

Qiongbo - Hainan Provincial Museum
The main body of the Hainan Provincial Museum consists of three simple rectangular shapes that unfold parallel to each other, floating above a pool of water. It is reminiscent of Hainan Province, which is located in the midst of the South China Sea. The shared hall space in the atrium on the first floor adopts a semi-open design, giving the building a sense of transparency.
The Hainan Provincial Museum has four permanent exhibitions, namely 'Hainan's Collected Relics Exhibition,' 'Hainan History Exhibition,' 'Hainan Ethnic Minorities Exhibition,' and 'Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition,' which display Hainan's history, ethnic minority cultures, intangible cultural heritage, and cultural relics.
Currently, the Hainan Museum is hosting a special exhibition titled 'The Eternal Style of Su Dongpo - Su Shi Themed Cultural Relics Exhibition,' where national treasures such as the authentic works of Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fu, and Cai Xiang from the 'Four Masters of the Song Dynasty' are on display.
For convenient transportation, you can take buses No. 12, 27, 33, 43, 51, 52, 56, 67, 68, Tourist Bus 4, or Tourist Bus 5 to Hainan Square in Haikou city center, and you will arrive at the Hainan Provincial Museum.

Visit the Hainan Provincial Museum to explore local intangible cultural heritage
📍Detailed address:
76 Guoxing Avenue, Qiongshan District, Haikou City, Hainan
🕙Opening hours:
9:00——17:00
🌟Highlights:
To see the local cultural characteristics and historical customs, one must visit the museum. The provincial museum in Haikou is currently undergoing expansion. When we visited, two exhibition halls were closed for renovation. Perhaps due to its coastal and island nature, the museum does not have an ancient relics exhibition hall. The entire museum is divided into six sections: the Huali Wood and Chen Xiang Pavilion, displays of Hainanese craftsmanship, cuisine, and opera, and one hall dedicated to the local ethnic minority culture. Hainan was anciently known as 'Nanhai Qidian' (with three water dots, the character is not found), established during the Han Dynasty, and until the Qing Dynasty, Hainan Island was required to pay tribute to the imperial court once every three years. Hainanese Huali wood has always been one of the 'earthly tributes' and gradually became a material for royal and noble furniture, at one point even considered a high-grade wood. Huali wood is very common in Hainan and was once the raw material for the local Li people to build houses and boats, as well as for daily utensils. The people of Hainan have the skill to make boats and utensils from a single piece of wood, without nails or rivets, a unique craft. Looking at agarwood, due to its complex, difficult, and lengthy process of formation, it is rare and scarce, and with its unique growing environment, it has been revered as the 'foremost of all fragrances' since ancient times. The formation of agarwood is complex, including fresh formation, ripe formation, shedding, and insect damage, and its shapes are very diverse. The customs of collecting and using agarwood, and the culture of incense burning, have added a touch of color to China's fragrance culture. The most popular among the public are traditional crafts, cuisine, and drama, which are influenced by the unique geographical environment, resulting in unique local handicrafts and delicacies, such as shell carving, coconut carving, bamboo and wood instruments, all of which are very characteristic of the local area. Hainan's food culture is characterized by its natural and original flavors, relying on the sea for food, incorporating fruits into dishes, selecting natural and fresh ingredients, and emphasizing a light and fresh taste. Of course, delicious food is accompanied by fine wines, which are also diverse, including Shanlan jade liquor, glutinous rice wine, sweet potato wine, sugarcane wine, honey wine, betel nut wine, coconut wine, deer turtle wine, etc. Finally, looking at the culture of Hainan's ethnic minorities, the local Li language is unique, and the festival celebrations have derived many characteristic dances and activities, such as turtle pulling, wood chopping dance, which are very interesting, and the clothing and jewelry of the local indigenous people also integrate the local environmental characteristics.
Overall, after the visit, the Hainan Museum mainly presents intangible cultural heritage to visitors in various aspects, covering Hainanese traditional dance, opera, fine arts, skills, and customs, with its unique ethnic personality and aesthetic patterns. It makes one appreciate the long-standing craftsmanship, the exquisite taste of Hainanese cuisine, and the distinctiveness of local customs.

Eternal charm, ageless Dongpo - Third visit to Hainan Provincial Museum
On this stop in Haikou, I visited the Hainan Provincial Museum for the third time. The reason was that I received a message from Haikou a few days ago. The Hainan Department of Culture and Tourism, in conjunction with the Palace Museum, is hosting the 'Eternal Charm, Ageless Dongpo - Su Shi Themed Cultural Relics Exhibition' from February 1 to April 30 at the Hainan Provincial Museum. So we specifically arranged this itinerary. After visiting, I felt it was very worthwhile and highly recommend friends visiting Hainan to take a special look.
As it turns out, Mr. Dongpo's appeal is truly enormous. This is the first time I've seen so many people at the Hainan Provincial Museum. When I arrived at around ten in the morning on February 7, there was already a traffic jam from quite a distance away. Inside the museum, there was a line of several tens of meters to enter the Dongpo No. 1 Exhibition Hall.
This exhibition displays 332 sets of Su Shi-themed cultural relics, including 154 sets of precious cultural relics, including 15 sets of first-class cultural relics, 56 sets of second-class cultural relics, and 83 sets of third-class cultural relics. In particular, there are 5 'national treasure-level' first-class A-grade cultural relics from the Palace Museum: Su Shi's authentic works 'New Year's Celebration Scroll' and 'People Come to Get Book Scroll' combined scroll, 'Inscription of Wang Shu's Poems and Lyrics', Huang Tingjian's authentic work 'Wei Qing Daoist Scroll', Mi Fu's authentic work 'Dao Lin Scroll', and Cai Xiang's authentic work 'Jing Ju Scroll'. In addition, there are also Song Huizong's imperial calligraphy 'Cai Xing Chi Scroll', one piece of Emperor Yongzheng's imperial calligraphy, three pieces of Emperor Qianlong's imperial calligraphy, as well as authentic works by Xu Wei, Shen Du, Qian Yi, Zhu Zhishan, Sun Kehong, Ji Xiaolan, Zheng Banqiao, Luo Daguang, Zhang Zhao, Liu Tang, Bao Shichen, Weng Fanggang, Yang Shoujing, Zhang Daqian, Chen Bancheng and many other famous artists.

Hainan Haikou Museum
Like the vast majority of public museums, it is free to reserve, conveniently located, and is at the cultural center of Haikou, Hainan.
Although the place is not very large, it is very delicately designed. Compared with other museums, what is special is the underwater archaeology in the first floor exhibition hall. The relics here are different from the traditional unearthed ones, all are out of the water, and you can see marine plants attached to it.
The second floor talks about the history of the end of the Han Dynasty in Hainan and the precious corroborative relics. Think of Su Wu's sentence 'Nanyue kills the Han envoy, slaughters it into nine counties; Wan Wang kills the Han envoy, the head county Beique; North Korea kills the Han envoy, and immediately executes it.'
Other historical figures from different periods include Su Dongpo, Hai Rui, etc. These people who really paid for the people, even thousands of years later, can still be admired and respected by future generations to commemorate them. It's great, perhaps this is the tenacity and confidence of the Chinese civilization that has been passed down for thousands of years.
The third floor is an introduction to the ethnic minorities in Hainan and a rest area. There is a free explanation at 10 am and 3 pm each. If you have plenty of time, you might as well make a reservation to participate. The cultural and creative shop at the door has a free stamping point, where you can bring a notebook to leave a souvenir for the trip.

The food at the South Gate Night Market is really good~The taste is good, the order is good, and the hygiene is good~
👍Most recommended:

🌟Highlights:
Salt water drinks are a feature, my friends love to drink, I prefer to drink sweet water without salt, hahaha~
Hengxingfa Tea Shop (Shuixiangkou Store)
Here I have to mention the "Lao Ba Tea", which is a scenery of Hainan, a pot of tea, a plate of peanuts, or one or two breads, old tables and stools, surrounded by three or two tea guests, quietly "eating" tea, enjoying the hot sun in Hainan during the day, or the evening breeze and insects in the evening.
I went to drink tea for two consecutive days, enough to see its deliciousness~A pot of "Wenchang Chade", as the condensed milk under the tea cup slowly melts, the sweetness spreads in the mouth~

🌟Highlights:
Qingbuliang has developed rapidly in recent years, and you can drink various Qingbuliang with various ingredients in Beijing~Last night, my friend took me to eat a Qingbuliang shop that has been in Hainan for many years. There are no various fruit ingredients, just pure coconut milk or coconut meat or sugar water~Add a little bit of ingredients, after drinking for a while, you can also tell the shopkeeper, can you help me add a bowl of sugar water😄(I have to say, this bowl of sugar water, it's really delicious, not so sweet and greasy, very smooth taste)
Arcade Old Street If you want to understand the prosperity of a city, then the internet celebrity check-in point is indispensable🙃
Arcade Old Street, take a stroll, take a photo, it's pretty good, there is also a non-heritage culture exhibition here to understand the non-heritage culture of Hainan~
Sky Mountain Post Leaving the Arcade Old Street, there are several beautiful places to watch the sunset in Haikou, I chose Sky Mountain~
There are several places in Haikou that can be checked in, I might put them in the back to make up (because I will go in a few days🙂), or I might leave a thought, waiting for you to come and check in😁
