I've been to almost all the major cities in France, but this is my personal favorite. Bordeaux is the city of wine. The cathedral is a Gothic cathedral with attractive 19th century stained glass windows and a distinctive choir with carved misericordes. Bordeaux cathedral originates from the Romanesque church of Saint Andrew which was built in the 11th century. It gradually gained influence over its main rival, the church of Saint Severinus which had the relics of companions of Saint John to attract pilgrims. In 1137 thirteen year old Eleanor of Aquitaine married the future Louis VII in Saint Andrew's cathedral. Louis's father died just months later and she became the Queen of France. Only a wall in the Nave remains of the original Romanesque church but the current Gothic cathedral was constructed over the 14 and 15th centuries. The Grosse Cloche is one of the oldest belfries in France, in the heart of the city The Latin inscription on the inside of the Grosse Cloche (literally "Big Bell") reads "I ring the hours and my voice is a call to arms, (…) I sing for happy events and weep for the dead". The bell was cast in 1775 and weighs no less than 7,750 kilos! Christened "Armande-Louise", it rings 6 times a year for major celebrations such as Bastille Day, VE Day, and Remembrance Day and also the first Sunday of each month at noon. The gateway where the bell is hung also had a defensive function and served as a prison. Young people who misbehaved were confined there, shut in by a door 10 cm thick with enormous bolts. It was joked at the time that they stayed in the "Hotel du Lion d’Or" – an allusion to the weather vane on the central dome with a representation of a lion, symbolising the kings of England. This place is so amazing and fun and for only 11 euros (for students) I’ve been to plenty of visual art museums but this one is gigantic. It’s so fun to walk around in the dark with the music and lights reflecting on the water. At the time of my visit, we saw the shows of Salvador Dali and Gaudi. The shows just repeat every hour or so. Great value to chill. I just wish that there were more shows to watch.

If you are a fan of sweet French oastires, one way is to visit the French country itself. Marche Des Capucins is a place where many called it like a farmers market but this place opens daily except Mondays where the stall vendors will sell local produce spreads, fresh baked pastries, freshly slice cheese and own family business wine and of course fresh coffee and other French delicacies. Eating out in France is quite expensive especially in restaurants and cafes, so this is one of the next cheaper option of eating out on take aways. Bordeaux has a rich sense of history, as well as modern fashion and vitality; it has intoxicating wine, as well as amazing nature and culture. Every step here is like opening an ancient hand-bound book. The lines are filled with time. The Finnish plane slowly landed at Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport. Looking out the porthole, the sky was a gentle light blue. . The air in Bordeaux carries a faint earthy aroma, mixed with the aroma of the vineyard, just like the subtle feeling you get when you first take a sip of aged red wine—both familiar and fresh. I live in the Golden Triangle (Triangle d'Or) in the city center, which is one of the most prosperous areas in Bordeaux. The streets are paved with golden stones and the buildings are in an elegant French Baroque style. The first day's itinerary was very simple. I decided to use my feet to measure the soul of this city. The Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux was my first stop. This 18th-century building is famous for its 12 magnificent Corinthian stone columns. On the terrace outside the theater, the sun shines down, revealing an aristocratic elegance. I was sitting on the steps of the theater, listening to the street performer playing the violin, and I felt an unreal feeling in my heart - all of this seemed like a scene from a certain literary movie. Next, I came to the world-famous Place de la Bourse. This square is opposite the Garonne River. The central pool reflects the entire sky in the sunlight, as well as the ancient buildings on the other side. Between the sparkling waves, the whole city seems to be immersed in a dream. I took off my shoes and stepped into the pool. The cool water gently caressed my feet. At that moment, I seemed to be one with Bordeaux. At night, I found a French bistro hidden in an alley. Ordered a glass of Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon to go with a simple cheese platter. The wine has a rich and deep flavor, with aromas of blackberries and vanilla, and every sip is like a dialogue with the land. When night falls, I walk on the ancient streets, and the street lights above my head emit a yellowish light, which seems to silently tell the story of Bordeaux. Coming to Bordeaux without going to the vineyards is like going to Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower. Rue Sainte-Catherine is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe, lined with a variety of boutiques and handicraft stores. I walked into a wine shop and picked out a few bottles of red wine from a small winery. I also bought some French macarons and local grape jam. For the last stop, I returned to Shuijing Square, this time to see it at night. When the lights are on, the water in the square reflects the entire starry sky. The night in Bordeaux is more like a dream than the day. I sat on a bench by the square, thinking back on the journey over the past few days, and my heart was filled with gratitude. Bordeaux is like a glass of wine. It is strong when you first drink it, but as it ferments over time, it has endless stamina. I returned home with the story of Bordeaux, but the smell of this city remains in my memory for a long time. This time I traveled to Bordeaux with friends, and we went to a charming French bistro nearby for dinner. It’s a cozy place with a warm, welcoming staff. French Meat Spread on Bread Apparently, this is a homemade spread commonly made in French households. It’s soft and fluffy, like a meat-based version of cheese spread, and pairs perfectly with bread! Goose Liver The portion was huge! Typically, you only get about a third of this amount in Paris. It’s served with fig jam and bread – delicious! Beef We tried two types: Charolais beef and German beef. The Charolais was finer and smoother in texture, while the German beef was firmer with a perfectly seared, slightly crispy exterior. (Overall, the portions are very generous.) Fish The fish was super fresh and large, fried to perfection so that it stayed intact without breaking – quite skillful! Vegetables and Potato Pancakes The side dishes, including vegetables and potato pancakes, were all very tasty! Dessert We finished with a dessert platter featuring six different items. The French are generous with their sweets!
