Geghard- Armenia
The monastery of Geghard is a renowned ecclesiastical and cultural centre of medieval Armenia, and after all one of my favorite places in Armenia since I was a kid.
It is located in the Kotayk province of Armenia.
Part of the monastery is carved out of the adjacent mountain surrounded by cliffs. it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (with enhanced protection status).
I’ve been here countless times but still ever time I visit Geghard I still enjoy it and adore the beauty of it.
This place is 100% must see in Armenia 🇦🇲 If you are planning to travel to Armenia make sure that Geghard is on your list.

Armenia - Geghard Monastery.
[Geghard Monastery] is also known as the Monastery of the Holy Lance. Built in 1215, it is only over 800 years old, but its unique cave church is still breathtaking.
The church was built using the natural caves, and there is a stream flowing out of the church. Many believers come with mineral water bottles to fill them with what they believe to be "holy water."
A couple was having a wedding in the main church, which looked sacred and solemn.
In 2000, Geghard Monastery was listed as a World Heritage Site.

The pilgrimage site in Armenia, the Holy Lance Monastery
Geghard Monastery, also known as the Holy Lance Monastery, once housed the long spear that the Roman soldier used to stab Jesus, as well as fragments of wood from Noah's Ark, making it a pilgrimage site for Armenian Christians for centuries. It was listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 2000.
Many of the monastery's buildings are carved into the mountain rock, very primitive, and the use of space is very clever, with lighting relying solely on small windows carved out. Inside the monastery, there is a spring that trickles out from the stone wall. Various exquisite crosses are carved on the mountain rock, as well as large and small caves for asceticism.

Geghard means the spear, which stems from the spear that was once stored here and crucified on Jesus. It is a medieval monastery built in 1215 and is now on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. The entire monastery is carved out of stone and surrounded by mountains. There is a spring in the monastery, taken from the snow from the mountains and part of the azat river canyon. Not far from the place there is a row of hawkers who buy bread and dried fruit glucose syrup.
Through the stairs on the left hand side of the church, there is a large room at the end of the passage, which contains a lot of towers and carvings, and a hole in the corner on the right side to spoil the room below. There is also a magical magic in this stone room - it can create incredible sound effects, and a small sound can magnify several times the sound, like a natural recording studio.
Monastery In addition to the Christianity of prayer, there are many newcomers coming to the monastery to take wedding photos or weddings. We met a couple of people on the same day. There is also a very interesting place in Geghard. There are many large and small holes on the rock of three or four meters high outside the monastery wall. The local people throw stones in the hole below, and the technique is just to throw the stone into the hole. in. We took a few small stones and tried it. No stone was thrown into the hole. We found that it was not only technically necessary but also good luck.
