Getting There - short taxi from Dali Ancient City 🚕
To get to Dali, high-speed train to Dali from Kunming 🚄
There are so many scenic spots for photos all around, and you can rent bikes everywhere. Recommend stopping at a few of the many establishments dotted around the lake for coffee ☕️ or lunch with a view.

A Spiritual Retreat at Erhai Beach
By the shores of Erhai, the gentle caress of the beach feels like stepping into a delicate ink painting. Sunlight scatters, creating shimmering waves, weaving a dream of golden light and azure waters. Strolling along the edge of Erhai, the gentle breeze carries the freshness of the lake and the distant call, bringing a sense of tranquility and making one forget the hustle and bustle of life. Gazing into the distance, the Cangshan Mountains appear like a dark green silhouette, while the nearby Erhai's blue waves offer a pure spiritual retreat in this serene setting. Erhai Beach, a tender gift from nature, is a place that captivates and enchants.

🌟 Yunnan Wonders: Ancient Cities & Majestic Mountains 🌟
I've explored some incredible spots that you just can't miss! Here's the lowdown on where to go and what to see:
🏰 Dali Ancient City
Stroll back in time in Dali Ancient City, where culture and history dance amidst the stunning backdrop of the Cangshan Mountains. With no entry fee, this 1,200-year-old marvel is a hub of activity. From the traditional Bai homes to the bustling markets and the serene Erhai Lake views, it's a feast for the senses. Wander through by day or soak up the atmosphere at night; either way, you're in for a treat. Don't miss the local beef skewers and the fresh flower cakes – they're a culinary delight!
⛰️ Cangshan Mountain
Ascend Cangshan Mountain and feel like you've stepped into a celestial realm. Despite some logistical hiccups with ticketing, the views are worth every second of the wait. The mountain's swift weather changes add to the adventure, offering breathtaking vistas of the entire region. Remember to pack an oxygen bottle, as the altitude might take your breath away – quite literally! Hike along the Jade Belt pathway and immerse yourself in the lush greenery and the beauty of the eighteen streams.
🌊 Erhai Lake
Erhai Lake is an enchanting choice for a peaceful escape. Whether cycling around at sunset or simply chilling by the water, the lake's beauty is undeniable. Take a boat trip to Nanzhao Folk Island, but make sure to allow enough time to truly appreciate its charm. Stay at a lakeside resort, like the Dali Qingmai Sea View Resort, for an unforgettable sunrise or sunset that paints the sky and the lake in a myriad of colors. Feed the seagulls and let the tranquility of Erhai wash over you.
🎨 Dongfengyun Scenic Area
Dongfengyun is a picturesque spot perfect for those Instagram-worthy shots. While it may seem a tad monotonous after a while, the unique red brick architecture and the vibrant art scene are definite highlights. Rent an electric car to zip around, or if the weather's clear, take a leisurely stroll to soak in the kaleidoscope art installations and the floral splendor. At night, the lit-up art pieces transform the area into a magical landscape.
🏯 The Chongsheng Temple and The Three-Pagoda Culture Tourist Area
The grandeur of the Chongsheng Temple and its iconic Three Pagodas is a sight to behold. Despite a touch of commercialization, the spiritual vibe is palpable. Take the electric car to the top and walk down, visiting the various temples and feeding the fish along the way. The reconstructed temple complex, while new, still holds a sense of awe, and the pagodas stand as a testament to the region's rich Buddhist heritage.
🛶 Shuanglang
Shuanglang is a bustling spot on the Erhai Lake circuit. Brimming with life, it offers a mix of dining, shopping, and leisure activities. Take a boat to Nanzhao Folk Island or simply enjoy the laid-back vibe of the town. For a perfect end to your day, catch the sunset at the Sun Palace or the Nanzhao Folk Island and bask in the beauty of this lakeside gem.

Stroll through the streets and alleys of the ancient city, feeling the weight of history and the vitality of modernity. Then, head to Longkan Wharf to greet the first ray of sunlight on Erhai Lake, where the golden light spreads across the sea, breathtakingly beautiful.

Shuanglang Ancient Town, the only ancient town by the sea in Dali, where the sea view cafes and restaurants are unforgettable. Wander through the streets and alleys of the ancient town, feeling the tranquility and beauty. At night, consider finding a sea view homestay here, falling asleep to the sound of the waves.
The next morning, head to Wenbi Village, where a rainbow road leading to the sea is eye-catching 🌈. Stroll through the village, feeling the simplicity and tranquility. Huabin Mars Manor and Sunset Mountain Sea Cafe are highlights here, worth stopping by to enjoy a leisurely time.

⛰【Travel Guide】
📍Detailed address: Erhai Lake, Dali
🚗Transportation strategy: Self-driving, or go to Longyi Wharf
🕙Opening hours: All day!!! It's really great
💰Ticket price: No tickets required
🌟Highlights: Xingsheng Bridge is too beautiful for photos, Huanhai East Road, Xuefu Road~~~~~
📌Small Tips: At first, we chose to take a taxi because we thought it would be more free and flexible to walk and stay without being rushed. I have to admit that having a good travel companion is really important. My friend and I are both quite laid-back people. We would discuss matters and not arrange a too tiring itinerary. The above time includes the travel time and is a very flexible way of traveling. Surprisingly, the taxi fare turned out to be cheaper than hiring a car or carpooling (Be sure to do a good job with sunscreen!! Bring a windproof mask!!)

Erhai Lake is a beautiful landscape in Dali, which collects snow mountain meltwater and rainwater all year round. The water is pure, and the blue lake reflects the surrounding mountains and villages, forming a spectacular and beautiful picture. When you come to Dali, you must visit Erhai Lake.
Walking by Erhai Lake, bathing in the sun, being in the quiet nature, feeling the boundless tranquility and freshness. It outlines the unique style of Erhai Lake, children playing in the sand on the beach, fishermen casting nets and fishing on the lake, drying delicious dried fish on the fishing board, local residents living on the lakeside boat... These beautiful scenes are combined into the unique style of Erhai Lake.
In addition to appreciating the beauty of Erhai Lake, you can also taste fresh aquatic food by the lake, such as delicious crayfish, shellfish, crucian carp, carp, etc., which are irresistible. MAYA WALLACE
I also encountered the rainbow at the gate of Erhai
The rainbow at the gate of Erhai is a very beautiful natural landscape, which appears on the edge of Erhai in Dali, Yunnan. When sunlight passes through raindrops, the light refracts and reflects to form a rainbow, bringing a visual feast to tourists.
The best time to appreciate the rainbow at the gate of Erhai is usually in the evening after the rain. At this time, the sunlight shines through the clouds onto the lake surface, interacts with the raindrops, and forms a colorful rainbow. Standing by the lake, you can feel the magical charm of nature, as if you are in a fairyland.
In addition to appreciating the rainbow, there are many other attractions worth visiting at the gate of Erhai. For example, you can stroll on the lakeside plank road to appreciate the beautiful scenery of Erhai; you can also take a boat tour of Erhai to feel the clarity and tranquility of the lake water; you can also visit the surrounding ancient sites to understand the local history and culture.

You don't even have social security, and you dare to cycle around Erhai Lake? Really worth it
I've been resigned for 4 months, now I'm traveling all over the country, recently cycling around Erhai Lake~ I won't pay for social security anymore, if it's cut off, it's cut off, it's not like it hasn't been cut off before. I don't want to spend my whole life in fear, afraid of not being able to buy a house, settle down, or raise the next generation if I cut off social security, afraid of not having money when I get sick, not being able to receive my pension... Go to hell, I've been educated in fear from a young age, so I can only be a well-behaved slave. Anyway, I have nothing to begin with, so I'm not afraid of losing anything, let's play first~
Erhai Lake is really beautiful, cycling 138 kilometers in two days, very happy!
I declare this route is the essence!
The most essential route for cycling around Erhai Lake should be 'Longkan Wharf South - Xiabopang Village', the whole journey is about 10km, with the scenery of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake in full view~
👉👉Check-in points for this route:
1️⃣Longkan Wharf South
Don't go to the popular check-in place Longkan Wharf where people are crowded and you have to queue up for photos. It's better to go to the water forest on the south side of Longkan Wharf, which is almost unknown to tourists. The light and shadow of the sequoia trees are excellent, dreamy and beautiful
📍Navigation: Dali Xiangguo Coffee Shop
2️⃣Longfeng Village
The long wooden plank road extends into the sea, with the water rippling; the surrounding dead trees, wetlands, red and yellow sequoia trees, and reed landscapes are rich, and every angle is beautiful
📍Navigation: Dali Sun Valley Sea View Inn
3️⃣Xiajiyi
This area is pure scenery: on one side are sequoia trees with red wild grass, reeds swaying in the wind; on the other side, you can overlook Cangshan Mountain without any obstruction, and the large lawn can be freely cycled and run, comfortably sunbathing
📍Navigation: Wild Stay Sea View Homestay
4️⃣Majiuyi
The wetland scenery is charming, the wooden plank road between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake is beautiful and romantic; the small stone beach by the sea is a good place for photography. Majiuyi is also one of the areas where seagulls are most concentrated
📍Navigation: Taoran Farmhouse
5️⃣Shuangyuan Creek
The sequoia trees are particularly dense, colorful, and beautiful! Unfortunately, due to the management of Erhai Lake, they are all blocked by green iron sheets. If you put a drone, it's super beautiful
📍Navigation: Shuangyuan Creek
6️⃣Xiabopang
Sequoia trees, wooden plank roads, dead trees in the sea, lonely trees, especially suitable for shooting emotional films
📍Navigation: Dali Haixi Sea View Hotel
⚠️tips:
Watch seagulls in the morning, seagulls are active after sunrise, they ignore you when they are full near noon;
You must cycle along the small road by Erhai Lake, the essence can only be seen by taking the small road by the sea!

It's not abroad, but Dali, Yunnan in China, which is really breathtakingly beautiful
The most comprehensive Dali shop exploration check-in map is here. Today I'm going to share the Dali shop exploration check-in guide.
As a person who needs to take into account both scenic spots and is obsessed with shop exploration check-ins,
I must make a richly illustrated guide before departure to make this trip full of security.
Simply put, Dali is mainly about touring around Erhai Lake.
Erhai Lake is mainly divided into the east line of the lake (which can be self-driving) and the west line of the lake (choose to rent shared electric battery cars, cannot be self-driving).
Below, I will also share with you the routes suitable for check-in and shop exploration according to the east and west of the lake.

December has come to Dali, not going here is like coming in vain
How romantic is Erhai in winter? If you don't come, you don't know at all. The water cedars gradually turn red, and the seagulls come as promised. Any casual photo is the quality of oil painting. Watch the pink dawn on Erhai in the morning, the seagulls crow, and watch the warm sun fall in the evening, as beautiful as a paradise on earth.
Although Erhai is called a sea, it is not a sea. It is the second largest plateau freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. Because its lake shape curve is like an ear, it is vividly called 'Erhai'. The area of Erhai is about 252 square kilometers, and the 'coastline' is about 130 kilometers. It takes at least one day to travel around, and it is recommended to divide the tour into east and west lines. The east line is the east sea line occupied by Shuanglang, Wase and other places, and the west line is the west Erhai ecological corridor on the side of Dali Ancient City.
When playing in Erhai, it is best on sunny days. The Erhai on sunny days is particularly beautiful. Seagulls from Siberia come here every winter. The winter temperature in Dali is higher than that in Siberia, which is a paradise for seagulls to spend the winter. To see seagulls, you must get up early, because seagulls are smart. They appear at sunrise, eat full before nine in the morning and leave. The harmonious coexistence of man and nature, the perfect collision of romance and gentleness, if one day will die, who does not want to stay here forever.

A beautiful windy lake
If you are traveling in Yunnan Erhai is a must see place to visit. A huge beautiful lake with a mountain backdrop.
We stayed at a hotel overlooking the lake with a small outdoor pool to relax in. Relaxing by the pool of an evening overlooking the lake is fantastic. It really gives you chance to enjoy the scenery and take a break.
There are many ways to enjoy seeing the lake from bike rides, road trips, and lakes cruises. You can even get a great view of the lake from the old towns or coffee shops that surround it.
Regardless of how you decide to enjoy your time here, you will be sure to appreciate it. #yunnan #dali #erhailake #yunnantravel

Rent a car and go to Haidong to see a more natural style.
Erhai Lake is the second largest lake in Yunnan. It is named after its shape resembling a human ear. To see its full view, aerial photography or maps are needed. Therefore, it always makes people want to visit multiple times. Renting a car to go around the lake and seeing the more natural and primitive scenery on the east bank is recommended.

Just returned from Dali, a hot guide to renting a car to tour around Erhai Lake.
Gotta make a trip to Dali and feel the breeze of Erhai Lake~
This time in Dali, I was really healed by the beautiful scenery.
During the May Day holiday, be sure to go to "windy places" and experience the slow life~
🔵Travel Tips
▪️The blue sky and white clouds in Dali are really beautiful, but the ultraviolet rays are also very strong. If you don't apply enough sunscreen, it's easy to get sunburned. ⚠️Not only do you need to use sunscreen, but also arrange a set of sunscreen clothing, hats, and sunglasses!
▪️Taking a taxi from the airport to Dali Ancient Town costs about 100 RMB, while from the train station it costs around 50 RMB. Most guesthouse owners can help arrange transportation.
▪️Most homestays in Dali have sky mirrors and sky ladders for taking photos, which, combined with the scenery, make for stunning shots.
🔵Rent a car around Erhai Lake.
Definitely come to Dali! Definitely! Definitely! Experience renting a car to circle Erhai Lake, driving a cute convertible Beetle and enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way, it's so relaxing~
🔑[Car Rental]
In actual experience, it is still very formal. Before renting a car, carefully inspect the body, take good photos and videos, and it's okay~
Those with high credit scores on Alipay can waive the deposit, but they still need to pay a 1000 yuan penalty deposit. If there are no violations within 15 days after returning the car, the full deposit will be refunded.
If you want to refuel, it will cost an extra 90rmb to turn on the air conditioning in summer. If you don't turn it on, 80rmb is enough.
🚦[Road conditions]
The road around Erhai Lake is spacious, but there are many bends, so don't drive too fast. Don't park randomly at scenic spots, and you won't break any rules. Even novice drivers can avoid all dangers perfectly~
🅿️[Parking]
Usually there are some villagers' parking lots next to ancient towns and large scenic spots, and the fee is 5rmb or 10rmb per stop. For some small coastal scenic spots in Haidong, you can directly park on the red ecological trail without violating any traffic rules even if you stop for a while.
🗺️[Route]
Dali Ancient City - Xizhou Ancient Town - Luwo Mountain - Wa Se Pier - Xingsheng Bridge - Dali Ancient City
Counterclockwise around Erhai Lake, the passenger seat is right next to the lake, making it easy to take photos and videos~ and it's perfect for avoiding the sun!
📍[Attraction]
Xizhou Ancient Town is quite unique, with a large wheat field where you can experience the feeling of the wind blowing through the waves of wheat~
Visiting popular internet-famous spots like Wulushan and Ideal Village doesn't feel necessary, but it's even better to stop and take pictures of beautiful scenery along the way!

Yunnan Dali Erhai Lake travel guide is here.
Self-driving itinerary for 2 days at Erhai Lake in Dali | Accommodation and sightseeing guide
.
I have driven to Erhai Lake four times and summarized that there are a total of five suitable accommodation areas in the west and east of the lake.
.
1️⃣Caicun. The advantage of living here is that it is located in the Haixi Ecological Corridor. 3km south of Caicun is the "Longgan Wharf", and 9km north is the "Banxi S Bend". These places are particularly beautiful and you can see the sunrise in the morning. Motor vehicles are not allowed in the Haixi Corridor, so you can walk or ride a bike. The disadvantage of choosing to stay in Caicun is that it is very close to Dali Ancient City, only 4km away. If you stayed in the ancient city for the first two days and drove here, it would be a bit awkward.
2️⃣Xizhou Ancient Town. The advantage of living in Xizhou is the quietness and the feeling of being in a small Bai village. It is also close to Haishetan Park, only 3km away, which makes it convenient to visit the "Couple Tree" for a check-in. I have stayed here twice, and at night, the village is relatively boring, so the only option is to take a walk by the seaside.
3️⃣Shuanglang Ancient Town. This is a scenic area that "combines beauty and talent". Although it is very commercialized, whether you are looking at Erhai Lake, watching the sunset, overlooking Cangshan Mountain, or strolling through the ancient town, tasting food, and enjoying coffee, it is worth your stay. There are two accommodation options in Shuanglang: if you want to be quiet in the bustling area, choose Dajian Village; if you like fireworks and want to go to bars at night, choose Shuanglang Village.
4️⃣Wasezhen. It is close to Xiaoputuo, about 4km away. In winter, there are more people watching seagulls here than seagulls themselves. Accommodation options in this area are limited and can be considered as a backup option.
5️⃣Ideal Country. Known as the "Santorini of China", it is a group of buildings on the mountain slope, with a sense of hierarchy like "terraces". There are very few hotels and homestays inside, and the prices are also very high.
.
After discussing accommodations, let's take a look at the itinerary. If you are staying in Shuanglang, my suggestion is:
☑️On the first day, you can rent a "little donkey" for cycling. Starting from north to south, passing through Luwo Mountain, Wase Town, and Xiaoputuo before returning, the round trip is about 40km. The highlight of this route is Luwo Mountain. After reaching the pass, be sure to park and hike all the way to the lake, reach the abandoned window, then follow a small path to the edge of the cliff, and arrive at the cave.
☑️On the second day, you can drive to Wenbi Village, Ideal State, and Longkan Wharf. The driving distance is about 70km. Drive slowly along the coastal road, roll down your car window, and let the sea breeze blow on your face. Because you know, this is the wind of farewell. Life has always been experiencing farewells, sometimes you leave your hometown, sometimes you bid farewell to your loved ones.
CulturalExplorations
Dali Erhai Lakeside Homestay, here you will encounter a courtyard, overlooking Erhai Lake, and watching the sunrise over Cangshan Mountain in the morning.
📍Detailed address: The hotel is located in the Wetland Park scenic area on the west coast, less than 15 meters from Erhai Lake, truly nestled between the mountains and the sea, with breathtaking views all around! Rest here and enjoy the boundless blue waves of Erhai Lake, the moon shining on the flowers, the green peaks of Cangshan Mountain entering the clouds, and the everlasting verdant beauty! The sea view room is less than 15 meters from Erhai Lake, allowing you to fall asleep to the sound of the waves and moonlight. Take a stroll along the west coast and you will come across a courtyard - Chuanjia Heyuan (Dali Haixi Store).
The hotel is 8 kilometers away from Dali Ancient Town, 17 kilometers by car from Banxi Village, 5 kilometers from China's most beautiful nunnery Jizhao Temple, 40 minutes by car from Santorini (Ideal Country), 12 kilometers from Erhai Park, 27 kilometers from Dali Airport, 23 kilometers from Xizhou, 30 kilometers from Zhoucheng, the hometown of tie-dyeing, and 50 kilometers from Shuanglang Scenic Area.
🌟Highlight features: The hotel decoration style combines Chinese and Western elements, showcasing traditional Chinese culture while also incorporating modern amenities.
The courtyard is located in the ecological wetland park. Get up in the morning and watch the sunrise, take a walk around the wetland park, slow down time. The appropriate space often understands you better than people, feel the poeticization of space and the ritual sense of life.

Erhai lake
One of the must visit places in Dali is Erhai lake. The best way to enjoy the lake is taking a bike ride along the lake. There are many bikes, you pay the fee and the deposit to locals and you have a bike for three hours. There are coffee shops nearby for taking a rest and enjoying the view but we preferred just to sit by the lake on the small rocks to have mor natural view.

Dali - Erhai lake and the mountains
Dali city is a county level city that actually encompasses all the settlements surrounding the Erhai Lake. The modern central part is located in the south and is your most probable entry point since the bus and train stations are located there. That part is also probably the one you will be least interested in. Although it's coastal area does have nice views and some fancy hotels most travelers head out to one of the smaller places around the lake, most notably the Dali Old Town. Dali Old town is technically a tourist center and most travelers choose to stay in or around it. The famed three pagodas as well as the starting point for climbing CangShan are all located near the Old Town. The town itself is nice enough and rather big. The fact that it is not pedestrianized and that pavements are very often blocked with stalls and parked cars does make it a bit hectic, especially in the high season, so staying on the fringes of it is probably a better option. To be honest, most of the things we wanted to see and do In Dali had nothing to do with the Old Town itself. It is a good place to eat and drink though, although 'tourist surcharge' will most certainly apply.
If you have not arrived by car, renting an e-bike for exploring short distances is actually a good idea. The three of us got on one e-bike and squeezed it out of all of its juice while exploring around. So much so, that we actually had to recharge on the way because the declared 70km range probably did not refer to a 160kg+ weight-load. Great way to discover surrounding villages that offer a bit more authenticity and bit less crowds that the Dali Old town. Most of the town pictures you see above(5-6-7) are actually from XiZhou (喜洲古镇) a smaller village further north really worth a visit. Quite a lot of people also like renting one of the pink convertibles and I suppose it is a good way to reach farther as well as take that ever so important Instagram photos.
I would come here again. The place does offer some real peace and quiet as well a serene landscape, even though it is often hidden by noise of the crowds and commerce.

A day around Erhai Lake in Dali, Yunnan
Yunnan is a must place to visit when in China. Make sure to tour around Erhai Lake in Dali. You can visit ancient towns dotting around the lake, eat local delicacies, cycle along the riverbank, or simply just relax in a cafe and enjoy the scenery.
We rented a car for a day with driver, who toured us around. He recommended where to stop and snapped photos and he can take quite good pictures too. #2023travelwish #mytripvlog
