Blossoming Dunhuang: Chang Shana's 80 Years of Art and Design Exhibition.
Dunhuang's cultural heritage is dazzling, and its humanistic stories are long-lasting. Chang Shuhong and Chang Shana are important representatives in modern Chinese art history. Dunhuang's significance to the China Academy of Art and society is self-evident, both for its historical value and its contribution to contemporary life. Under Lin Huiyin's guidance, Chang Shana entered the design field, using Dunhuang's cultural heritage as a guide to create new practical art.
In the early 20th century, many predecessors like Chang Shuhong experienced the pain of war and national turmoil, leading to a deep-rooted patriotism. This sentiment was deeply ingrained in their souls, influencing their actions and thoughts. Inspired by her father, Chang Shana dedicated her talents to the revival of Chinese culture. Her influence spans art, design, and education. Chang Shuhong once said, "If there's a next life, I want to be Chang Shuhong again to fulfill my unfinished dreams!" At 94, Chang Shana often says, "How did I get old? I still have so much to do!" She feels the historical opportunity of this era and is determined to seize it.
At 12, Chang Shana followed her father to Dunhuang. Her study of Dunhuang murals was an active integration, not passive learning. Encouraged by adults, she worked hard, developing a strong foundation despite her youthful inexperience.
This exhibition showcases her unique artistic style, developed over 80 years of exploration. She often says, "Art and design must build on the past, drawing from traditional culture and nature. Understanding cultural heritage is key to innovation."

Xinjiang Pottery Art Exhibition.
Xinjiang, also known as the Western Regions, was officially incorporated into the territory of the motherland when the Western Han Dynasty established the Protectorate of the Western Regions in Xinjiang in 60 AD. However, the exchanges and integration between Xinjiang and the Central Plains began as early as prehistoric times. Symbols of Chinese civilization such as painted pottery, jade, and silk closely connect the Central Plains with the Tianshan Mountains, Kunlun Mountains, and Altai Mountains.
The history of pottery making in Xinjiang is long, and pottery from different periods has different characteristics, carrying regional culture and witnessing the exchanges between Eastern and Western civilizations. This exhibition selects pictures of pottery unearthed in Xinjiang from prehistoric times to various periods, as well as related objects of pottery technology included in the national list of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage, as the main content of this exhibition, to show the historical culture, modern life and future inheritance carried by pottery.
Each piece of pottery sparkles and nourishes the Chinese skills and state of mind. Water, mud, firewood, and the metallic luster refracted by the glaze, the five elements are repeated, and life is endless.

The Craft Art Museum next to Olympic Forest Park, a free feast of art
Hey buddies, today I want to take you on a journey to the magical world of craftsmanship—the China Craft Art Museum, which quietly sits on the gentle edge of Olympic Forest Park.
As soon as you step through the mysterious door, you are instantly surrounded by a rich artistic atmosphere. The first thing that catches your eye is a dazzling silver giant tree. It is not just a decoration but more like a magical key to the ancient world of craftsmanship, making you stop and gaze at this retro beauty from the future. 🌲✨
As we delve deeper, it feels like stepping into a giant treasure trove. Each exhibit tells a story of a thousand years, shining with the wisdom and sweat of craftsmen.
Gold, silver, and jade artifacts gleam under the soft lights. They are either simple and elegant or complex and luxurious. Every smooth line and every exquisite carving reveal the craftsmen's ultimate pursuit of beauty. I seem to hear the crisp sound of metal clashing and feel the focused gaze and warmth of their hands as they carve.
The lacquerware section offers a different flavor. Hidden within the deep black are colorful worlds. Every stroke appears so steady and powerful, making one marvel at the ancient people's ingenious use of color and light.
The stoneware section is even more eye-opening. Those seemingly simple stones can be transformed into such vivid forms in the hands of craftsmen. Whether it's majestic mythical beasts or lively birds and animals, they are all awe-inspiring.
The textile area is a gentle ocean. Silk, cotton, linen, embroidery... each exudes a soft luster, with delicate textures and beautiful patterns, making one want to touch and feel that ancient warmth and softness.
Even the little one is deeply attracted by these exquisite exhibits. He curiously looks at each piece, his eyes sparkling with curiosity and longing for the unknown world. I know this is not just a visual feast but also a spiritual baptism, allowing us to find a moment of peace and beauty in our busy lives.
If you also long for an encounter with beauty, why not take your family to the China Craft Art Museum this weekend and feel the timeless craftsmanship? Trust me, you will be captivated by the artistic charm here! 👨👩👧👦🎉

At the Chinese Arts and Crafts Museum and the Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, there is a graduate exhibition titled 'Looking Back to See the Future' for the Class of 2024 from the Chinese National Academy of Arts. It showcases the works of the current graduates, allowing the audience to understand the artistic achievements these future artists have made during their graduate studies.
The Chinese National Academy of Arts has an excellent academic tradition, emphasizing both research and creative work, and actively innovating while inheriting traditions. The academy has always prioritized the cultivation of well-rounded artistic talents in moral, intellectual, and physical aspects as the core of its educational mission. In the research and teaching buildings, there is a focus on mentorship and mutual learning, with a high regard for the integration of theory and practice. Over the past three years, the students have participated in a wide range of teaching practice activities such as field sketching, exhibition design, and more, laying a solid foundation for their future careers.
This exhibition brings together the graduation works of all doctoral and master's students from the Fine Arts, Calligraphy and Seal Carving, and Design Departments of the Class of 2024 at the Chinese National Academy of Arts. It covers a range of disciplines including traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy and seal carving, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, cultural heritage conservation, ceramics, and digital media, highlighting the outstanding teaching and creative strength of the graduate school at the Chinese National Academy of Arts.

China Arts and Crafts Museum Album Share
The opening hours of the China Arts and Crafts Museum are from Tuesday to Sunday 9:00—17:00 (entry stops at 16:00), and it is closed on Mondays (except for statutory holidays).
The 6th floor of the China Arts and Crafts Museum is for calligraphy and painting exhibitions and student graduation works, with some exhibits as follows:
- “The spirit of ancient times had Li Sixun, but today there is no one like Yang Ziyun”: This is an ink painting, and the exhibit is standard and proper.
In addition, the 6th floor also has the “Creating in Inheritance: Form·Performance·Art Scene - Zhu Legeng Art Exhibition”, which is divided into two areas:
- The first exhibition area: displays a series of art scene works, and visitors can interact with these artworks for an immersive experience of the art scene. My favorite is the ceramic kaleidoscope, full of Chinese style. In this scene, you can feel more about “innovating in inheritance” and “inheriting in innovation”. You can wear clothing with an ancient style or elements of ancient style to echo the scene, which is very photogenic.
- The second exhibition area: mainly features representative works of Zhu Legeng, such as ceramic utensils, sculptures, paintings, etc.

Its historical evolution is as follows:
• The China Arts and Crafts Museum was established in 1990, originally located at No. 101, Fuxingmennei Street, northeast corner of Fuxingmen Bridge, Xicheng District, Beijing (now Parkson Shopping Center), and was successively under the Ministry of Light Industry and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. In 2006, it was transferred to the former Ministry of Culture and managed by the China Academy of Art. After moving out of the original site in 2008, it was without a permanent location.
• In 2011, the project was approved by the State Council and the National Development and Reform Commission, and the site was selected in 2013. After a public tender, the joint venture of the China Academy of Building Research and GMP International Architects from Germany was chosen as the design unit.
• In 2018, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the feasibility study report of the project.
• The foundation was laid in March 2019, the underground structure was capped on January 13, 2020, the main structure was capped on July 31, 2020, and the construction was completed and accepted on January 5, 2022.
• On February 5, 2022, the China Arts and Crafts Museum and China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum were inaugurated, and the opening ceremony of the 'Chinese Treasures - Exhibition of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage and Arts and Crafts' was held in Beijing. The museum was also approved to add the name 'China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum'. During the period without a permanent location, the museum fully leveraged its collection advantages, holding a series of public welfare arts and crafts exhibitions, academic touring exhibitions, special exhibitions, and academic activities, actively building a platform to showcase the mainstream development and latest creative achievements in the field of Chinese arts and crafts. It has hosted 5 'China Contemporary Arts and Crafts Biennale', becoming a brand event that displays high-level contemporary Chinese arts and crafts creations.

Chinese Intangible Heritage: Lacquer Brilliance of Shanxi
At the circular corridor on the sixth floor of the China Arts and Crafts Museum and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, the 'Chinese Intangible Heritage: Lacquer Brilliance of Shanxi' exhibition is being held, showcasing and introducing exquisite lacquerware from the Shanxi region to visitors.
Lacquerware, since the Neolithic era, has continued for thousands of years, concealing its light and retaining its color. During the Xia and Shang dynasties, people had already begun planting lacquer trees and using colored lacquer to decorate objects. In the Qin and Han dynasties, lacquerware production reached its first peak, with meticulous division of labor in official workshops and numerous lacquerware crafting sites scattered among the people. The historical period that pushed lacquerware craftsmanship to a new peak of richness and elegance was during the Tang and Song dynasties, which saw the emergence of new decorative techniques such as mother-of-pearl inlay, gold and silver flat carving, rhinoceros horn carving, and gold pasting. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, later generations commented: 'Thousands of patterns and designs, bewilderingly intricate and impossible to fully recognize.' To this day, lacquered objects are still regarded as important items. Among them, Shanxi's 'Pingyao Polished Lacquerware,' 'Xinjiang Cloud Carved Lacquerware,' and 'Jishan Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Lacquerware' are particularly famous.
Pingyao Polished Lacquerware is one of China's four major types of lacquerware. The decorative technique of Pingyao Polished Lacquerware originated in Pingyao County in central Shanxi and is named for the luster produced by hand polishing. In 2006, the decorative technique of Pingyao Polished Lacquerware was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The rhinoceros horn carving technique of lacquerware from Xinjiang County, Shanxi, is unique to the region, featuring patterns such as heavy rings, spirals, and cloud hooks, collectively known as cloud carving. In 2011, the rhinoceros horn carving technique was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Jishan Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Lacquerware originated in the Shang dynasty, with the core skill involving peeling and grinding shells and sea shells into thin slices, which are then inlaid onto the surface of objects according to the pattern requirements. In 2014, the decorative technique of Jishan Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Lacquerware was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Lacquerware is now widely applied in modern life, such as modern furniture that incorporates lacquer decorative techniques. Even space decoration design includes elements of lacquer art. Such innovations and applications have allowed the traditional skill of lacquer art to rejuvenate and thrive with vitality in its heritage.
