The charm of Gibraltar is the romance of seeing Africa when you look up.
When you look up, you can see the mountains of North Africa, whether it's Morocco or Ceuta. When there are clouds, it has a subtle beauty, when there are no clouds, it has a transparent beauty, and when the sun sets, it has a blue beauty. It's so touching.
This note summarizes the travel guide, so you can save it if you haven't planned for the New Year or Easter!
🛂 Visa: UK visa or multiple Schengen visas are both acceptable.
Note: Due to strong winds, flights are often diverted to Spain. In this case, some airlines require a Schengen visa. If you don't have one, you can check the weather in advance and talk to the staff at the airport.
💷 Currency exchange: Both GBP and EUR are accepted. Most places accept credit cards, but you need to prepare some cash for the bus.
✈️ Flights: Currently, there are direct flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Bristol, so it's totally feasible to go for a weekend.
🚕 Taxi: There are taxis at the airport. If you are not at the airport, you can ask the hotel to book one for you. There is no Uber or Bolt here, so if you are in a hurry, you need to hail a cab on the street.
🚌 Bus: Mainly routes 5 and 10, and most places are within walking distance after getting off. If you need a full map of the bus routes, you can check Gibraltar Bus Tracker, which has real-time bus arrivals and is very convenient.
🏨 Accommodation: The Rock is good, an old building where Churchill stayed. It is located halfway up the mountain, with a great view of the Mediterranean Sea/North Africa. The downside is that you need to climb a little. There is also a blogger who recommends Sunburn, which is in the shape of a cruise ship and is very curious.
📸 Photography: There are many places to take photos in Gibraltar! I saw many people recommend the lighthouse and the rock, so here are a few niche photo spots:
1️⃣Catalan Bay: There are colorful houses 🏠, and in the afternoon you can take pictures of the stars and sunshine on the sea!
2️⃣Governor's Lookout Battery: You can take pictures of the whole bay and the buildings on the Spanish side.
3️⃣Botanical Garden: Tropical plants are great for photography. You can look up and take pictures of the cable car 🚡 slowly rising against the blue sky.
4️⃣Airport runway 🛫: You can walk to the middle of the runway and take pictures of the western scenery!
🍲 Food: Spanish, British, and Indian food, there are quite a few options here. I recommend El Faro's paella and Vinopolis' garlic shrimp. If you like Italian food, there's also Papa Luigi.
