Castel San't Angelo (Mausoleum of Hadrian) is one of the must-visit places in Rome. I would definitely recommend first-time traveller to include this site in the itinerary. It is easy to spot it among the buildings in Rome because of its imposing and towering cylindrical shape, located exactly eastwards from the Vatican City. This is a building that has witnessed so much changes that have been happening in Rome throughout the history. While visiting the Castel, it is as if you are time-traveling from the Roman Empire to the modern days. Great old castle, nice placement near the Tiber river. The view is gorgeous, especially at sunset since the Basilica of St. Peter can be seen in the background. Also, the pedestrian bridge over the river is a romantic place with people that play slow songs on the guitar. We did not enter because the castle was closed, but it was pretty crowded so I suppose you should get tickets in advance if you want to visit the inside. #境外遊

Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome what's one of the places I really wanted to see while in Rome. The castle has such an interesting mix of history, from being a mausoleum to a fortress and even a papal residence. Walking through the narrow halls and up to the rooftop provides with amazing views of the city and the Vatican. Pro tip: The lines can get long, so try to visit early in the day. Also, don't miss the walk along the top ramparts—it's peaceful and offers one of the best views in Rome. It’s definitely worth the visit for the history and views. One more tip and the best thing about this place: come back and enjoy the view of Castel Sant'Angelo at night! Fort Sant'Angelo has a secret passage to St. Peter's Basilica, which protects the Pope's secret retreat and a large amount of Pope's property. Fort Sant'Angelo can be climbed to the top and is a good location overlooking the Tiber River and the city of Rome. There are 12 angel statues on the St. Angel Bridge in front of you, of which the most recent two were made by Bernini, but the real ones were removed and protected. When they went, they were just in time for the construction and restoration, and the panorama could not be seen. #ancienttown

The castle of Sant Angelo was primarily built by emperor Hadrian to serve as his mosolleum. Today it houses a museum with a rich historic collection. Refreshingly, this wasn't crowded so it made for a peaceful two hours exploring every corner of this place. I didn't have a guide this time so I was able to relax and read through descriptions at my own pace. This makes for a great stop on your way to the Vatican which is a treasure cove from historical and musuem persoective. This will help gather some more information and understanding of how Rome has transitioned in the last two thousand years. There is a cafe with snack and drink options. Also clean washrooms. As always there is considerable walking involved and some stairs too. So put on the best pair of walking shoes. The views from the top were gorgeous. I finally arrived at the other side of the Anywhere Door, Castel Sant'Angelo. Initially built in 130 AD as an imperial mausoleum, it was later converted into a papal palace. It is called 'Castel Sant'Angelo' because during the late stages of the Black Death in Europe, the Pope saw the Archangel Michael sheathing his sword atop this building, and soon after, the epidemic came to an end. To thank the angel, a bronze statue of the angel (see image 4) was added to the building, and its name was changed to 'Castel Sant'Angelo'. ❤️Recommended reason: The Ponte Sant'Angelo leading to Castel Sant'Angelo is also worth seeing, see images one, five, and six; 📝Note tips: Personally, I find Castel Sant'Angelo more charming at dusk;
